Master Christ God, Who healed my passions with Your Passion and healed my ulcers with Your wounds, grant me, who have sinned much to You, tears of tenderness, dissolve my body from smell of Your life-giving Body, and delight my soul with Your Honest Blood from sorrow, from which the enemy gave me a drink . Raise my mind to You, drawn down below, and lead me from the abyss of destruction, as I am not the imam of repentance, not the imam of tenderness, not the imam of consoling tears, leading children to their inheritance. Interpretation of Psalm 138

We bring to your attention the interpretation of the song of praise:

Verses 1-3: The Lord knew David and tried him with all his difficulties. David remained true to himself and to the Lord. The Almighty knows everything about the psalmist: his character, actions, thoughts. He understands the king even from afar.

Verses 4-6: David can only think, but God already understands all his intentions. The knowledge of the Lord is described.

Verses 7-12: The omnipresence of the Lord is expressed by rhetorical questions and phrases. David understands that the Lord is everywhere: in his every breath and step. The entire Universe is subject to him. The hand of the Lord is the guiding force. For God both night and day are bright. He sees everything that happens on earth.

Verses 13-16: David tells us that God wove him from a cloth whose threads were carefully thought out to perfection. Each has its own function. The acts of the Lord are wonderful.

Verses 17-18: The thoughts and actions of the Lord are described. His thoughts and plans. David points out that even during sleep and rest he is protected by the wing of God.

Verses 19-22: Rejecting the angry words of the wicked against the Lord. David treats God with a certain reverence. For the psalmist, the wicked are enemies and traitors.

Verses 23-24: David's prayer to God. Even if the king takes the wrong path, the Almighty will direct him to the true path of faith.

I will praise You with all my heart: before the gods I will sing Your praise.

1. I will worship your holy temple and praise your name for your mercy and for your truth, for you have magnified your word above all your names.
2. On that day when I cried, You answered me and strengthened me with strength in my soul.
3. All the kings of the earth will praise You, O LORDER, [10] when they hear the words of Your mouth.

Uses

Judaism

Psalm 138 is traditionally read as a psalm of gratitude and gratitude to God.[11][12]

Verse 2 is read during Selichot.[13]

Verse 4 is a verse spoken by a mule at Perek Shirah.[14]

Verses 3 and 8 are recited at the end of the Amidah by people whose names begin with the first letter of the verse and end with the last letter of the verse.[13]

Catholic Church

Historically, this psalm was read or sung in the office Vespers on Wednesday, according to the Rule of St. Benedict.[15][16] In the Liturgy of the Hours, Psalm 138 is read at Vespers from Tuesday of the fourth seed.[17] Additionally, in the liturgy of the Mass it is celebrated on the 21st Sunday of the ordinary season.[18] 5th and 17th Sundays in normal times of the year.

The psalm appeared in the hymnal in a rhymed version. Genevan Psalter

in the 1551 edition. German versions of the same tune, "Mein ganzes Herz erhebet dich", have been published since the 18th century and form part of Protestant and Catholic hymns.

Heinrich Schütz set Psalm 138 in German "Aus meines Herzens Grunde" (With all my heart) as part of his settings of Becker's Psalter, published 1628, SWV 243.[19]Marc-Antoine Charpentier, 4 settings, (H.200 , H.200 a, H.151, H.225, H.220), Michel Richard Delalande set the psalm in Latin "Confitebor tibi Domine in toto corde meo", S48, for soloists, chorus and orchestra in 1697.[ 20]Henri Desmarais composed a setting for soloists, a five-voice choir and orchestra in 1707.[21]Joseph Rheinberger composed a four-part setting in Latin, "Confitebor tibi Domine" as No. 4 of his Fünf Motetten

(Five Motets), Op. 163, in 1885[22] South African composer Stefans Grove wrote a piece for children's choir, choir, African drums, marimba, and string orchestra in 2002.[23]
