The life of Tsar Nicholas and the texts of prayers to the passion-bearer, what the martyr is asked for

Nicholas II, emperor, passion-bearer

The Orthodox Church calls all martyrs who suffered in the name of Christ passion-bearers. It is also permissible to call those who suffered martyrdom from the invaders and went to another world with the name of the Lord on their lips.

The emperor was executed by the Bolsheviks after he signed the abdication of power. Members of his family and several people from his retinue were executed along with him. This event became one of the most tragic and terrible in the history of the country during the period of 1918.

5 strong prayers to the passion-bearer Tsar Nicholas II

In the Ipatiev house, where the Romanov family spent the last months of their lives, a heavy, oppressive atmosphere remained. But witnesses claim that the Romanovs were calm and self-possessed. Extreme religiosity helped them in this.

Today, religious texts are dedicated to Tsar Nicholas as a saint.

It is believed that Nicholas can be addressed as the second redeemer. Researchers compare his consent to execution with the ascension of Christ the Savior to Golgotha.

1

Oh, holy, passion-bearing Tsar Martyr Nicholas, you are the child-loving father of your people, an all-forgiving and merciful heart from us, many sinners, not turning away, covering us with the love of Christ until the last drop of your royal blood. By your representation before the Lord we are preserved even to this day. We know that you hear us in our sorrows and illnesses, and through your intercession the Heavenly King will hear us and grant forgiveness for our many sins. O prayer book for the Russian state, you are truly an image of honor for her and her faithful servants. Ask the Lord for our husbands, fathers and children the honor of renewal and in everyday work courage and complacent patience, for the Orthodox people to stand in faith and for all of us to have spiritual purity. By the meekness of Christ, convert our hardened hearts, our children (our children), mired in passions and suffering from spiritual blindness, seek deliverance from corrupting evils: wine drinking, drug addiction, gambling hobbies and all depravity of soul and body, so that the mind and conscience may be sobered by grace from above. .

Help us (names), oh, our wondrous Tsar Martyr Saint Nicholas, may our race be cleansed of sins and preserved in a godly life until the second coming of our Savior Jesus Christ, to Him be glory, honor and worship, always now and ever and unto the ages of ages. . Amen.

2

O holy passion-bearer to Tsar Nicholas the Martyr! The Lord has chosen you as His anointed one, to be merciful and right to judge your people and to be the guardian of the Orthodox Church. For this reason, with the fear of God, you performed royal service and cared for souls. The Lord, testing you like Job the Long-Suffering, allows you reproach, bitter sorrow, betrayal, betrayal, alienation of your neighbors and abandonment of the earthly kingdom in mental anguish. All this for the good of Russia, as her faithful son, having endured, and as a true servant of Christ, receiving a martyr's death, you have reached the Heavenly Kingdom, where you enjoy the Highest glory at the Throne of all the Tsar, together with your holy wife Queen Alexandra and your royal children Alexy, Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia. Now, having great boldness in Christ the King, pray that the Lord will forgive the sin of the apostasy of our people and grant forgiveness of sins and instruct us in all virtues, so that we may acquire humility, meekness and love and be made worthy of the Heavenly Kingdom, where the new martyrs and all the saints are together. Russian confessors let us glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

3

O holy new martyr, passion-bearer Tsar Nicholas, you were chosen and anointed by the Lord, for you have mercifully and the right to judge your people and be the guardian of the Orthodox Power, and you have carried out your royal service and care for souls with the fear of God. Testing you, like gold in a crucible, with bitter sorrow, like Job the Long-suffering, the Lord allow you to follow - deprivation of the royal throne and martyrdom. You have endured all this meekly and resignedly, as a true servant of Christ, and for this reason you now enjoy the highest glory at the Throne of all the King, together with all the holy martyrs. But we, even though we are unworthy, for the sake of our multitude of sins, we pray to you, the glorious Passion-Bearing Tsar Nicholas, beseech the Lord for us, may He not turn away His face to the end, may our people not deprive us of His chosenness, but may He give us the understanding of salvation, in let us rise from the depths of our fall. You, holy Tsar Nicholas, had great boldness, for you shed your blood for your people and laid down your soul not only for your friends, but also for your enemies, and for this reason you stand now in the uneven light of the Tsar of glory, as His faithful servant. And so be our intercessor and protector and incline the justice of God to mercy, may the Lord not destroy us completely, but may He forgive us all, and mercifully have mercy, and save the holy Russian land, and protect its people from all troubles and misfortunes. O our holy and glorious Passion-Bearing Tsar Nicholas, through your intercession and the prayers of your Holy Family, the innocently murdered Queen Alexandra, Tsarevich Alexy, Princess Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia, may the Lord grant us forgiveness of sins and instruct us in every virtue, so that we may acquire humility , meekness and love, which you, holy martyrs, showed to nature. And may faith and piety be revived in our people, and may the Lord again grant us the pious Autocrat to restore the throne of the Orthodox Tsars in the Russian land. May we glorify God and serve Him faithfully until the end of time on earth, and may we be worthy of His kingdom in heaven, where together with you and with all the new martyrs and Confessors of Russia, and with all the saints, we will sing the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

4

O holy great Russian Tsar and passion-bearer Nicholas! Listen to the voice of our prayer and lift up to the Throne of the all-seeing Lord the groaning and sighing of the Russian people, once chosen and blessed by God, but now fallen and departed from God. Resolve the perjury that hitherto weighs heavily on the Russian people. We have sinned grievously by apostasy from the Heavenly King, leaving the Orthodox faith to be trampled upon by the wicked, breaking the conciliar oath and not forbidding the murder of yours, your family and your faithful servants.

Not because we obeyed the commandment of the Lord: “Touch not my anointed,” but to David who said: “Whoever stretches out his hand against the Lord’s Anointed, will not the Lord strike him?” And now, worthy of our deeds, we are acceptable, for even to this day the sin of shedding the royal blood weighs on us.

To this day our holy places are being desecrated. Fornication and lawlessness do not diminish from us. Our children are given over to reproach. Innocent blood cries to heaven, shed every hour in our land.

But see the tears and contrition of our hearts, we repent, just as the people of Kiev once did before Prince Igor, who was martyred by them; like the people of Vladimir before Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky, who was killed by them, we ask: pray to the Lord, may he not turn away from us completely, may he not deprive the Russian people of His great chosenness, but may he give us the wisdom of salvation, so that we can rise from the depths of this fall.

Imashi, Tsar Nicholas, have great boldness, for you shed your blood for your people, and you laid down your soul not only for your friends, but also for your enemies. For this reason, stand now in the Everlasting Light of the King of Glory, as His faithful servant. Be our intercessor, protector, and protector. Do not turn away from us, and do not leave us to be trampled underfoot by the wicked. Grant us the strength to repent, and incline God’s justice to mercy, so that the Lord will not destroy us completely, but may He forgive us all and mercifully have mercy on us, and save the Russian land and its people. May our Fatherland be delivered from the troubles and misfortunes that have befallen us, may it revive faith and piety, and may it restore the throne of the Orthodox Kings, so that the prophecies of the saints of God may come true. And may the Russian people throughout the entire universe glorify the all-praised name of the Lord and serve Him faithfully until the end of the age, singing the glory of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

5

Lord our God, Great and Most Merciful! In the tenderness of our hearts, we humbly pray to You: preserve under the shelter of Your goodness from all evil circumstances the Blessed Sovereign and our Father, the Romanov family chosen by You (whose name You, Lord, weigh). Protect Him on all His paths with Your holy angels, so that nothing can be done by the enemy against Him, and the son of iniquity will not try to embitter Him: fill Him with longness of days and strength of strength. May He accomplish everything for Your glory and for the good of His people. We, rejoicing in Your All-Good Providence for Him, will bless and glorify Your All-Holy Name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Canon to the Passion-Bearer Tsar Nicholas

The chant that tells about the life of the royal family is called the canon. It is customary to include it in divine services during the veneration of passion-bearers.

Text

Irmos: Come, people, let us sing a song to Christ God, who divided the sea and taught the people, even as he learned from the work of Egypt, for he was glorified.

I pray to Your Most Glorious King and Lord of the Heavenly Powers and every creature, the Creator and Lord of the Triune and Consubstantial God: open my unworthy lips to the song of Your servant, the holy martyr Tsar Nicholas.

You were the glory and head of the God-saved earthly Fatherland, and you appeared to be the heir of the Heavenly Fatherland, O most faithful Tsar Nicholas, by the shedding of your innocent blood, in which, rejoicing with the Angels, you ate one Divinity, the Holy Trinity.

The crown of martyrdom, prophesied by many saints, foreshadowed far away, you laid down your soul for Holy Rus' and for your people without a murmur, O holy King, and also in glory in Heaven you stood before the Throne of the King of Glory with the noble Prince Vladimir, with whom you will intercede for us.

Theotokos: The judgment of wrath has come upon us and the joy of Your people has been scattered, O Mother of God, for we all weep and weep, and thus we say: O the sword of God, until you rest? Stop, have mercy on us, and let us glorify the Power of our Lady, gloriously we will be glorified.

Song 3

Irmos: Having established me on the rock of faith, you have enlarged my mouth against my enemies. For my spirit is glad, always singing: none is holy like our God, and none is righteous more than Thee, O Lord.

Thou hast exchanged the diadem of the perishable kingdom for the crown of the imperishable kingdom of Christ, and taken the cross into the hand for the scepter, and the children now rejoice with the Queen.

Born on the day of the long-suffering Job, you endured many sufferings: reproach, betrayal, exile, cruel murder, and after death, slander against your honorable name, both not from man, but from the Lord, you received reward, and in the same way intercede for the salvation of your Russian sons.

Absidity of Job, make your life like yours, holy great martyr, to the all-red life: not only honor and glory, and a royal crown, but also your very life, Satan attempted to take away from you, otherwise he appeared defeated by you.

Theotokos: Thou didst deign to receive the scepter of the Kingdom of All Russia from the hand of the holy Tsar, O Sovereign Lady, do not cease to cover Holy Rus' with Thy honorable omophorion.

Sedalen

Who is holy if not the passion-bearer Tsar Nicholas? Let there be mute flattering lips, speaking against the righteous iniquity: if you did not love Christ from your youth, like Boris and Gleb? Shall I not keep the holy faith in temptation, like Job? Why not raise children in piety, like Sophia the Wise? Shall we not build up the Church of God like Justinian? Why not glorify saints like Macarius? Why don't you protect your brethren like Elez? Shouldn’t you be tied to the crown of martyrdom, like Prince Andrei? Shouldn’t you pray for murderers like Stefan? Why don’t you lay down your soul for Holy Rus', like Prince Michael? If we honor these, let us glorify them all the more, for there is a sacrifice made for us to Christ.

Song 4

Irmos: You came from the Virgin, not an intercessor, nor an Angel, but the Lord Himself, incarnate, and you saved me as a whole man. Thus I call to Thee: glory to Thy power, O Lord.

The sovereign talent entrusted to you, Nikolai, you did not hide in the earth, like an invincible servant, but doing it, like a vigorous servant of your Master, you brought it to the much-destroyed One.

Having drunk the cup of suffering for Christ with baptism, in which Christ was baptized, the holy martyr of the King was baptized, and the Heavenly Father also seated you at His right hand in the Kingdom of Heaven.

May the will of God be done, you declared, O holy Tsar, that you also offered yourself a favorable sacrifice for the salvation of the Russian land.

Theotokos: Understand, unruly pagans, and do not boast about your arm, there is only one indestructible City, and this is Yours, the Ever-Virgin, Power and Kingdom, which will stand until the end of the age.

Song 5

Irmos: Giver of light and Creator of ages, O Lord, instruct us in the light of Your commandments; Don’t we know another God for You?

You have created many temples of God and you have glorified the holy saints of Christ, with whom you now rejoice brightly in the impregnable temple of the Divine.

Correcting the prophecy of the Venerable Seraphim: I will glorify the Tsar, who glorified me: you have placed the relics of this from under a bushel on the All-Russian candlestick, to the wise man Nicholas, whose prayers we strengthen, you have ended your glorious feat.

The new Nicholas of Myra, who acquired the intercession of Holy Rus', great martyr Tsar Nicholas, for thou didst lay down thy soul for thy people, and thou didst drink the cup of suffering for the people who sinned, for thou didst not worship another god of Christ.

Theotokos: Mother of God, Queen of all, praise the Orthodox, destroy the heretical vacillations, and grant peace to those who honor, Most Pure, Thy honorable image.

Song 6

Irmos: I am kept in the depths of sin, O Savior, and in the abyss of life I am overwhelmed, but like Jonah from the beast, lead me up from passions, and save me.

Do not touch My anointed, says the Lord, otherwise Thy people, O Lord, have forgotten the blood of the King on us and on our children. Accept, O Lord, the prayers of the Sovereign passion-bearers, for the sake of our slain sins.

Spare, O God, Thy people, the cruel murder of the Tsar, the martyr who did not forbid, who crucified You with our iniquities, and take away the sword that punishes our land, the Royal martyr with prayers.

Let there be mute flattering lips, saying that the holy King did not suffer for Christ: for the filthy murderers themselves wrote secret signs about this on the wall of the house of Ipatiyev, imagining that they would take away evil from Holy Rus', otherwise the Lady of Heaven Herself would destroy their council.

Theotokos: Night and darkness, and the waters of fierce discord torment Your land, behold, God’s rebuke and His wrath exist, but we pray to You, Most Pure One, and we say: if you are able, we know that the Maiden will pray for Her Power.

Kontakion, tone 6

The hope of the King of the martyr with the Queen and strengthened his children and servants, and inspired them to Your love, proclaiming the future peace for them, through their prayers, Lord, have mercy on us.

Ikos

In vain the faith of Christ was strengthened by the pious Tsar in the country of Russia, and not tolerating this, God’s enemies plotted to destroy the Christ-loving Tsar, martyr Nicholas, and put him to innocent death with the pious Queen, and the children, and the servants, and with the entire Royal family, but being deceived, as the way The wicked will perish, but the righteous will live forever, and instead of destruction and harm they will create glorious martyrs and intercessors before God. Through their blood and the new martyr of all, the Russian country, oppressed by the atheists, will be saved, because this blood is the seed of new life in Christ, through their prayers, Lord, have mercy on us.

Song 7

Irmos: I serve the golden image on the field of Deira, three of Your fathers, heedless of the godless command, but cast into the midst of the fire, watering the waist: blessed art thou, O God of our fathers.

Seeking to reproach your chastity and purity, choosing you to be devoured by your wickedness and lack of knowledge, the devil desires to devour you, but the immaculate sacrifices of the Lord appeared, fellow-sufferers of Spasov, royal martyrs, crying out: blessed is God our father.

Even though the multitude had fallen silent, out of fear for the sake of the Jews, about the murder of the Royal Passion-Bearers, they cried out to the stones: from the walls of the house of Hypatia blood was oozing, washed away by nothing, in denunciation of those who did not know how to sing: blessed is God our father.

Having wanted to tear out the very memory of the Royal Martyrs, the deicide children destroyed the house of Hypati. Ole such madness! Moreover, the Lord has created temples for the martyr of the hearts of men, piously honoring the King and crying out: blessed be God our father.

Theotokos: The Queen of all, having come with the holy icon of Her Sovereign, has established a heavenly shelter for our glory, by which we are saved from visible and invisible enemies, crying out to Her Son: blessed be God our father.

Song 8

Irmos: Who descended into the fiery furnace of the Jewish youth, and who turned God into the dew, sing the works of the Lord, and exalt them unto all ages.

Having despised the glory of the earthly kingdom, the only Christ, for the sake of us crucified, you loved, and having courageously confessed Him, you were crowned with the crown of martyrdom, the all-blessed Queen Alexandro Novaya; In the same way, now to the Throne of the King of Glory in heaven, eat, sing to the Lord’s deeds, and exalt to all ages.

All the desire, the holy virgins Olgo, Tatiano, Maria and Anastasia, having acquired to the One Master, to live the beauty and glory of the Kingdom, impute like a dream, crying out: Sing to the Lord’s deeds and exalt to all ages.

The ancient martyr, like the king and tormentor, bowed his neck to the murder of those like Tsarevich Alexy, who gave up his innocent blood to be tormented by a stiff-necked murderer, crying out: Sing to the Lord the deeds and exalt them to all ages.

Theotokos: With a gilded robe, like the Queen, Your Son, having illuminated the dawn of the Spirit, set You at Your right hand, O Most Pure One, whom we extol forever.

Song 9

Irmos: From God, God the Word, who came with ineffable wisdom to renew Adam, who ate into the corruption of the fallen lute, from the Holy Virgin inexpressibly incarnated for our sake, we magnify faith and with one wise songs.

It was good for you not to be born, you wicked tormentors; it would be better for Sodom and Gomorrah on the Day of Judgment than for the murderer of the holy King. Through your prayers, Lord, strengthen the Orthodox faith.

Plagues placed on your martyr's body, plagues appearing to the enemy of our salvation, conqueror of demons, Blessed Royal Martyrs, deliver our souls from their torment.

You have commanded us, O holy King, not to take revenge for your murder, saying that evil will still increase in the lands of Russia, otherwise it is not evil that will conquer evil, but only love: in the same way, pray for us to acquire love for God and for our neighbors.

Theotokos: The wrath of hell will not be able to come upon us, Thy temple is holy, and David swears by Thy Seed, Thy praise and Thy Power are unceasing until the end of the age.

Life story

After the death of Alexander III, Nicholas accepted the throne and began to fulfill his duties. From early childhood he was brought up with respect for religion and the traditions of the church. It is believed that the emperor was always tactful and kind-hearted by nature. At the very beginning of his reign, the Tsar married Alexandra Feodorovna, Princess of Hesse. A year after the official wedding, Princess Olga was born, then 3 more daughters were born: Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia. Only in 1904, Tsarevich Alexei was born into the family. The boy suffered from hemophilia from birth.

During the reign of Nicholas there were many trials. The First World War was perceived extremely negatively by the people. In addition, its results did not satisfy anyone. Several revolutions followed, which did not add to the king's popularity. Nicholas’s tragedy forever became “Bloody Sunday,” when hundreds of peaceful workers were injured during the execution.

In 1917, a coup d'etat led to the fact that Nicholas II was forced to abdicate the throne. After this, the Bolsheviks placed the royal family into custody. The last place of exile was Ipatiev’s estate near Yekaterinburg. Thus ended the earthly life of the former king.

Icons

Icons are dedicated to Nicholas. On them the king is traditionally depicted with the face of a saint. He holds a cross with one hand and raises the other for blessing. Due to the fact that photographic images of the king have reached his contemporaries, he is traditionally depicted on icons as resembling real photographs.

Day of Remembrance

The memorial day chosen for veneration is July 17th. After the first commemoration, which took place on July 17, 1989, the construction of churches in the name of the passion-bearers began everywhere.

Prayer to the Royal Passion-Bearers

Oh, holy seven, royal passion-bearers, Nicholas, Alexandro, Alexia, Maria, Olgo, Tatiano and Anastasia! You, bound by the union of the love of Christ, have piously built your house, like a small church, and naturally adorned it with humility in the midst of earthly greatness. In the time of fratricidal warfare and persecution of the godless in our fatherland, placing all their trust in God, the image of patience and suffering of the entire Russian land showed to nature and, praying for the tormentors, slander, bonds and exile, mockery, ridicule and slander, murder and desecration of the body courageously endured naturally. For this reason, natural intercessors for us came from the earthly kingdom to the heavenly kingdom. Oh, holy saints of God! Pray to God for us, that the Church may preserve our unanimity and strong faith, protect our country with peace and prosperity and deliver it from internecine warfare and division, make the powers that be wise, embellish the army with courage, save the people from ruin, strengthen Christian spouses in fidelity and love, children He will increase in piety and obedience, and all of us together with you will be worthy to sing the Most Honorable and Magnificent Name of the Life-Giving Trinity of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 1 to the Holy Passion-Bearer Tsar Nicholas

Oh, holy passion-bearer to Tsar Nicholas the Martyr! Russian confessors let us glorify the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer 2 to the Holy Passion-Bearer Tsar Nicholas

But see the tears and contrition of our hearts, we repent, just as the people of Kiev once did before Prince Igor, who was martyred by them; like the people of Vladimir before Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky, who was killed by them, we ask: pray to the Lord, may he not turn away from us completely, may he not deprive the Russian people of His great chosenness, but may he give us the mind of salvation, so that we can rise from the depths of this fall. Amen.

Prayer and Troparion to the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers

The Romanov martyrs are remembered with obligatory liturgical glorification. Believers especially remember the king’s children, who were killed undeservedly. At the same time, Orthodox Christians are saddened by the fact that many of the children did not die immediately, but were finished off with bayonets.

When the troparion is read to the Royal Passion-Bearers

Most often, the troparion is pronounced during the commemoration of the passion-bearers. Orthodox Christians can turn to the emperor in all cases that they consider necessary.

The Greatness of the Royal Passion-Bearers

Today, faithful people, let us brightly honor the seven honorable royal passion-bearers, Christ’s one home Church: Nicholas and Alexandra, Alexy, Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia. For this reason, not being afraid of the bonds and sufferings of many kinds, I accepted death and desecration of bodies from those who fought against God and improved my boldness towards the Lord in prayer. For this reason, let us cry out to them with love: O holy passion-bearers, listen to the voice of repentance and the lamentation of our people, strengthen the Russian land in love for Orthodoxy, save from internecine warfare, ask God for peace and great mercy to our souls.

Imperial family

Not only the autocrat, but also his family are an example of fortitude. For many months, the princesses, the crown prince, and Nicholas’s wife were transported from one place to another, but they bravely endured the trials and supported each other with prayer.

What do the royal family pray for?

After the death of the family, many years passed before complete rehabilitation occurred. For many believers, the family has become a kind of standard of purity and religiosity.

People turn to icons with the face of Nicholas when they want to ask for family unity, raising children, or guidance on the path of faith.

Canonization of the royal family

Many years passed before the murder of the royal family was discussed as a crime. First, an investigation into the circumstances of the death was carried out, then the remains were found and buried. After all the events carried out, the church recognized Nicholas as a passion-bearer and elevated him to the rank of holy martyrs.

Veneration and miracles through prayers to the royal family

Already in the 20th century, evidence of the miracle-working of icons of Nicholas II began to appear. Most often these are stories about how prayers before the face of a saint led to deliverance from alcoholism or drug addiction.
