Psalm 67: “Let God rise again, and let His enemies be scattered”

Psalm 67 read:

1 Finally, a psalm of songs to David

2 Let God rise again, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. 3 As smoke disappears, let them disappear, as wax melts before the fire, so let sinners perish from the presence of God, 4 and let the righteous rejoice, let them rejoice before God, let them enjoy themselves with joy. 5 Sing praises to God, sing praises to His name, make a way for him who ascended to the west. Lord is His name, and rejoice before Him. 6 Let them be troubled at His presence, the Father of the orphans and the judge of widows: God is in His holy place. 7 God brings like-minded people into the house, destroying those who are bound by courage, and those who live in the tombs who are in great sorrow. 8 O God, You never went before Your people, You never passed by in the wilderness, 9 The earth was shaken, for the heavens were destroyed at the presence of the God of Sinai, at the presence of the God of Israel. 10 The rain is free to separate, O God, from Your inheritance and is exhausted, but You have accomplished it. 11 Thy living creatures live on it; thou hast prepared Thy goodness for the needy, O God. 12 The Lord will give the word to those who bring good news with great power. 13 The king of the powers of the beloved, through the beauty of the house, divide the gain. 14 If you sleep in the middle of the border, the krill of the dove is covered with silver, and its space is in the glitter of gold. 15 At some time the kings of heaven will separate from her, and they will snow in Selmon. 16 Mountain of God, fat mountain, damp mountain, fat mountain. 17 Do you hate the damp mountains? The mountain where God was pleased to live, for the Lord will dwell until the end. 18 The chariot of God is in the darkness, thousands of gob-hungers, the Lord is in them in Sinai in the holy place. 19 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast taken captivity captive, thou hast received gifts among men, for those who do not repent cannot yet dwell. 20 Blessed be the Lord God, blessed be the Lord day by day; God will hasten for us our salvation. 21 Our God, the God of salvation, and the Lord, the Lord of the outcome of death. 22 Otherwise, God will crush the heads of His enemies, the top of the powers of those who perish in their sins. 23 The Lord says: I will turn from Bashan, I will turn in the depths of the sea. 24 For let your foot be dipped in blood, let your tongue be your dog, from the enemy from him. 25 Thy processions, O God, were seen, the processions of my God the King who is in the holy place, 26 leading the princes near the singers, in the midst of the tympanum virgins. 27 In the churches bless God, the Lord from the sources of Israel. 28 There the youngest Benjamin was in terror, the princes of Judah their rulers, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali. 29 Commandment, O God, strengthen by Thy power, O God, this which Thou hast done in us. 30 From your temple in Jerusalem the king will bring you gifts. 31 Forbid the beasts of reeds, the host of youths among the youths of men, even if they shut up the tempted ones with money, scatter the tongues of those who want to fight. 32 Women of prayer will come from Egypt; Ethiopia will bring forward her hand to God. 33 Kingdoms of the earth, sing praises to God, sing praises to the Lord, 34 He who ascended into heaven, the heavens in the east, will give to his voice the voice of power. 35 Give the glory of God, His commandment is upon Israel, and His power upon the clouds. 36 God is marvelous in His saints, the God of Israel: He will give strength and dominion to His people, blessed be God.

May God rise again

Mark yourself with a cross and say a prayer to the Honest Cross:

May God rise again, and may His enemies be scattered, and may those who hate Him flee from His presence. As smoke disappears, let them disappear; as wax melts in the face of fire, so let demons perish from the face of those who love God, and those who sign themselves with the sign of the cross, and who joyfully say: Rejoice, Most Pure and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, drive away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who descended into hell, and who trampled down the power of the devil, and who gave us His Honest Cross to drive away every adversary. O Most Honest and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord! Help me with the Holy Virgin Mary, and with all the saints forever. Amen.

Or briefly:

Protect me, Lord, by the power of Your Honest and Life-giving Cross, and save me from all evil.

Psalm 67 in Russian:

1 To the director of the choir. Psalm of David. Song. 2 Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His presence. 3 As smoke dissipates, You scatter them; As wax melts in the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. 4 But let the righteous rejoice, let them rejoice before God and triumph in joy. 5 Sing praises to our God, sing praises to His name, exalt Him who walks in the heavens; His name is Lord, and rejoice in His presence. 6 God is the father of the fatherless and the judge of widows in his holy habitation. 7 God brings the lonely into the house, frees the prisoners from their shackles, but the disobedient remain in the hot desert. 8 God! When You went out before Your people, when You walked in the wilderness, 9 the earth shook, even the heavens melted at the presence of God, and this Sinai at the presence of God, the God of Israel. 10 You, O God, poured abundant rain on your inheritance, and when it was exhausted from labor, you strengthened it. 11 Your people dwelt there; According to Your goodness, O God, You prepared what was necessary for the poor. 12 The Lord will give the word: there will be a great multitude of messengers. 13 Kings of armies flee and flee, but she who sits at home divides the spoil. 14 Having settled down in your inheritance, you became like a dove, whose wings are covered with silver, and whose feathers are pure gold: 15 When the Almighty scattered the kings in this land, it turned white as the snow on Selmon. 16 The mountain of God is Mount Bashan! high mountain - Mount Vasanskaya! 17 Why do you look with envy, O high mountains, at the mountain on which God is pleased to dwell and the Lord will dwell forever? 18 Dark chariots of God, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them at Sinai in the sanctuary. 19 You ascended on high, you took captivity captive, you accepted gifts for men, so that even those who resist could dwell with the Lord God. 20 Blessed be the Lord every day. God puts burdens on us, but He also saves us. 21 God is our God for salvation; in the power of the Lord Almighty are the gates of death. 22 But God will crush the head of His enemies, the hairy crown of the one who is stubborn in his iniquities. 23 The Lord said: {I will bring you back from Bashan, I will bring you out of the depths of the sea, 24 so that you may immerse your foot, like your dogs’ tongue, in the blood of your enemies}. 25 We saw your procession, O God, the procession of my God, my King in the holy place: 26 in front were singers, behind playing on instruments, in the middle were maidens with timbrels: 27 “In the assemblies, bless the Lord God, you are of the seed of Israel!” 28 There Benjamin the younger is their prince; the princes of Judah are their rulers, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali. 29 Your God has ordained strength for you. Confirm, O God, what You have done for us! 30 For the sake of Your temple in Jerusalem, kings will bring You gifts. 31 Tame the beast in the reeds, the herd of oxen among the bullocks of the nations boasting of ingots of silver; scatter the nations who desire war. 32 The nobles will come from Egypt; Ethiopia will stretch out her hands to God. 33 Kingdoms of the earth! sing to God, sing praises to the Lord, 34 who walks in the heavens of heaven from everlasting. Behold, He gives His voice the voice of power. 35 Give glory to God! His greatness is above Israel, and His power is in the clouds. 36 You are terrible, O God, in Your sanctuary. The God of Israel - He gives strength and strength to [His] people. Blessed be God!

History of writing

If we start by determining the authorship of the song, then the one who created it will be the Jewish king David. The events of the song are centered around one shrine, which is considered very important for the chosen people - the Ark of the Covenant. Psalm 67 is dedicated to the return of the Ark to Jerusalem. The fact is that previously the shrine was hidden in the house of the Gittite Abbedar. At one time, he accepted her into his home and protected her.

Over time, Avvedar could no longer keep the Ark. The time came when the Ark was destined to end up on top of Mount Zion. As they offered up the holy relic, the people of Israel sang the song of King David. It is believed that the transfer of the Ark of the Covenant was not a whim of the people.

It was taken there in order to preserve it for future generations, because constant wars depleted the land, and enemies could trample on the gift of God with their wicked hands. When creating the song, the emphasis was not on the poetic part, but rather the musical part. Therefore, Psalm 67 is considered a song.

Prayer to the Honorable Cross of the Lord: examples of help

Archpriest Sergei Guselnikov, keymaster (deputy rector) of the Cyril and Methodius Cathedral in the city of Samara, in the Orthodox newspaper “Blagovest” dated April 28, 2000, gave an example of God’s help after reading the prayer “May God rise again.” This was the case with a parishioner of his temple, Evgenia. She worked as a tram conductor. She had a particularly difficult time at work in the evening, when there were drunk passengers on the tram who refused to pay the fare.

Once, before the start of her shift, a woman read the prayer “May God rise again” and Psalm 90. At the end of the shift, a tipsy young couple entered the carriage and refused to pay the fare. After some time, a man (also drunk) got on the tram, which scared Evgenia very much. However, he not only expressed a desire to pay for the passage himself, but also forced the young couple to pay. After this incident, the parishioner regularly began to read a prayer to the Cross before starting work, so that the Lord would protect her from troubles and unkind people.

Father Sergei also said that he himself often witnessed the grace-filled effect of prayer to the Honorable Cross of the Lord. So, for example, when on public transport he happened to see swearing from some scandalous woman, he began to read the prayer “May God rise again.” The scandal subsided.

Prayer “May God rise again”: what helps (when to read)

A prayer to the Cross, coming from a person with deep faith and trust in God’s help, cannot fail to be heard. It protects from demonic forces and intrigues.

“We pray because this is how we communicate with God, who created us. If we don’t do this, we will fall into the hands of the devil, and then woe to us” (Elder Paisiy Svyatogorets, 1924-1994).

But prayer should not be used as a magic formula. It is not the “reading” of prayer that saves, but God’s grace, which believers receive by turning to the Lord from a pure heart.

Elder Paisius the Svyatogorets taught: “We must be in constant contact with God in order to feel security; prayer is reliability and security.”

The prayer to the Holy Cross is included in the evening prayer rule for Christians. This helps believers overcome daily temptations and receive protection from witchcraft and demonic influence.

This prayer is also said (read) at divine services (particular importance is given in the Easter service), during the ceremony of consecrating a home, and during the burial of Christians.

Interpretation of Psalm 67

Verse 1-4. King David remembers his great predecessor, namely the prophet Moses, who led the Jews out of Egypt. Being in solidarity with the prophet of the past, the king remains in repentance before the Lord and asks that His children always be under supervision. The ruler spoke these words when the powerful shrine of God’s chosen people ascended to Mount Zion closer to safety. The king himself in these verses uses a large number of metaphors and comparisons, where His enemies are like disappearing smoke.

Verse 5-7. David speaks to his people, telling of the great and all-encompassing love of God. He also encourages the Israelis to be in love with the Creator and to be grateful for his gifts.

Verse 8-11. From David's lips come words of praise to God for His miracles during the captivity of the Jews. The Israelis had no home, but the Lord did not forget about them and gave Palestine. In difficult times, He sent rain, providing a bountiful harvest for His people.

Verses 12-13. The victories of the Jewish people are innumerable. He always moved forward, despite the dangers, because the Lord did not leave him and all the affairs of the people were His affairs.

Verses 14-15. War and battles are a necessary measure of cleansing the world. After each clash, the Lord allows people to rest and arranges peace. At this time, people are not burdened with anything and can live in peace.

Verses 16-21. God is an intercessor and helper for everyone. Anyone in need who turns to him with prayer will be heard and saved.

Verse 22. David states that sinners make a conscious choice in favor of the power of the devil. They commit crimes themselves.

Verses 23-24. The king mentions the gifts of God, their abundance. But at the same time, in order to deserve them, you need to be grateful to the Lord and accept Him into your heart. With these speeches he also addresses all the pagan peoples around the kingdom of Judah in order to bring His faith into their hearts.

Verses 35-36. In these final verses, David confirms the thoughts that the Most High is great and His word is Law.
