Women in prayers on the day of Anna, the mother of the Virgin Mary, ask the saint to help in conception

Prayers to Anna, the Mother of God, are considered one of the most effective and powerful. All this is associated with the fact that Anna was the mother of the Virgin Mary. People approach her with various requests. During her life, the woman also experienced some unpleasant moments and that is why she tries to help all those who really need her help. Each person who asks has his own reason, but many say that prayers to St. Anne, the Mother of God, do not go unheeded.

Life of Saint Anne, Mother of the Virgin Mary

The life of Anna dates back to the 1st century BC. She is the daughter of the clergyman Matthan. Anna's husband was Joachim: the couple lived in Nazareth of Galilee. The sacred legend says: Anna and Joachim were childless for 50 years. Previously, this was considered a shame, so when Joachim once came to the temple to make a sacrifice, he was refused. Joachim had to retire into the desert. Soon an Angel appeared to him there and told him that he would become a father.

Anna also received a sign: while walking in the garden, she noticed a nest with chicks and began to pray that the Lord would allow her to become a mother. She swore: she would give the child to the temple for service. Immediately an Angel appeared to her and told her the good news - he would know the happiness of motherhood.

Maria, daughter of Anna, was born around 15-16 BC. When the girl turned 3 years old, Anna fulfilled her promise - she gave her to serve the Lord in the Jerusalem Temple.

Anna and Joachim

She was the youngest daughter of a priest from the Aaronic family. Her husband Joachim was an heir from the line of David. The legend said that it was in the line of David that the Messiah would appear. The couple lived in Nazareth of Galilee. Having lived to a ripe old age, there were no children in the family. For Jews, childlessness was considered the most terrible punishment. They were very sad about this. They constantly prayed for the gift of children. Every year they gave part of their income to the poor and to the temple.

One day, on a big holiday, Joachim came to the temple and wanted to give a gift. But the priest did not take him, believing that he did not have God’s blessing. He studied his pedigree right up to the 12th generation and was convinced that everyone had offspring except him. Frustrated, he went into the desert, where he stayed for 40 days. There he adhered to strict fasting and constantly prayed.

In turn, his wife also considered herself to be the culprit of the grief that befell them. One day she saw a nest with chicks on a branch of a laurel tree. She leaned on a branch and began to tearfully pray that the Lord would look at her and give her a child. In return, she promised to bring it as a gift to the Lord. Before she could fully pronounce the words of the vow, an angel appeared before her, bringing the good news that she would become a mother. The girl will be called Mary and through her all the tribes of the world will be blessed. After such news, Anna hurried to the Jerusalem Temple, where she thanked God and repeated her vow once again.

The angel brought the same news to Joachim. He said that he should return to Jerusalem, where the Blessed Virgin Mary was eventually born. Until the age of three, the girl lived with her parents, but then she was brought to the Temple of the Lord to serve.

Veneration of St. Anne

The appearance of this child was truly a divine miracle, since at that time Anna and Joachim were very old people. Soon after Mary was transferred to the monastery, her parents died.

At this time, the church considers them to be ancestors. The Feast of Conception is considered especially revered among women who want to get pregnant. The monastery of St. Anne was built on Mount Athos in the 10th century. Over time, a cathedral church was erected there in her honor. Not far from it is the so-called “New Skete” or Little Anna. The days of remembrance of this saint are considered:

  • December 22,
  • August 07,
  • September 22nd.

Prayer to Fathers Joachim and Anna

“Oh, holy righteous women, Godfathers Joachim and Anno! Pray to the Merciful Lord, that He may turn away His anger from us, righteously moved against us by our deeds, and may, despising our countless sins, turn us, the servants of God (name), to the path of repentance, and may He establish us on the path of His commandments. Also, with your prayers in the world, save our life, and in all good things ask for good haste, all that we need from God for life and piety, freeing us from all misfortunes and troubles and sudden death through your intercession, and protecting us from all enemies, visible and invisible, and so this temporary life in the world has passed, we will achieve eternal peace, where through your holy prayer may we be worthy of the Heavenly Kingdom of Christ our God, to Him, together with the Father and the Most Holy Spirit, befits all glory, honor and worship forever and ever. Amen"

History of the icon of St. Anne

Holy Scripture gives little information about the earthly life of the Mother of God. More is known about her from the apocrypha (not recognized by all Christian churches). But we can definitely say that her parents were from a line of priests, her father was from the tribe of David. Both deeply revered the Lord and were very upset that they were not given children. The Jews considered this a great shame, a punishment from God.

One day, the temple authorities refused to accept a sacrifice from Joachim - after all, even the very ancient Abraham had children. Both spouses prayed tearfully. Anna promised to dedicate her child to the Lord. And God sent them great joy - the daughter Mary, who became the mother of Christ.

  • According to church tradition, Joachim and Anna were over 70 when they conceived a child.
  • Saint Anna died in Jerusalem even before the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary. On the site of her house, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was erected.
  • In the 10th century A monastery was built on Mount Athos in the name of the righteous old woman.
  • The righteous are remembered together at every Orthodox Liturgy as “godfathers” (from Church Slavonic - the parents of God). Veneration in Russia began only after the 13th century, but in the Holy Land it is a very ancient tradition.

Icon of St. Anna, the mother of the Virgin Mary, often depicts them together. Young Maria hugs her mother, their faces touch. Another type of composition includes the father - the righteous Joachim.

One Byzantine image shows a righteous couple embracing, perhaps capturing the moment they learned they would become parents. The icon well illustrates the holiness of everything that happens in marriage - including mutual expressions of affection. Women who do not have children often pray to the saints.

Another Saint Anna was also very old when an outstanding event happened in her life. St. Anna is mentioned in the New Testament, in the story about the Presentation. According to legend, she came from an ancient family. She got married, but lived in marriage for only a few years. After this, she began to serve in the temple, pleasing God with fasting and prayer. The gift of prophecy was highly respected in ancient Israel, and for Anna it consisted in the fact that she recognized the Lord.

In the icon, Anna the prophetess is depicted in old age, waist-deep or full-length. They can be distinguished from other saints with the same name by the inscription “prophetess”, which will be to the right of the figure at shoulder level (sometimes below). The saint wears a blue cape, with a tunic of a different color underneath. Outerwear can be red, tunic blue. The head is sometimes covered with a white scarf.

In the hands there is usually a scroll - rolled up or unfolded with text. This is a symbol of special knowledge that the Lord reveals to some saints. Indeed, among the many people surrounding Christ, only a few were able to recognize in Him the Messiah for whom the people of Israel had been waiting so much.

  • The saint can be depicted either against a regular gold background or against the background of a city (probably Jerusalem, where she lived at the Temple). The meaning of the icon of St. Anne is to remind us of the importance of a righteous life. Yes, she didn’t do anything particularly heroic from the point of view of the average person. But how many people today pray, attend church every day, and limit themselves to food during Lent?

The prophetess is an example of patience, which modern people are completely deprived of. And such a person will suffer much more from ordinary everyday troubles. Even the weather gets in the way and becomes an obstacle in business. They constantly complain, and, of course, spiritual achievements are also difficult for them. Anna’s patience was fully rewarded - the Lord gave her a meeting with Christ.

Since Scripture mentions Anna together with the righteous Simeon, they are often depicted on icons together. In the center of the composition is the righteous elder, Christ and His parents. The old woman herself is a little to the side, usually behind Simeon, her hand points to the Baby, and in the other there is a scroll. The icon of Anna the prophetess is considered the protector of babies, and it also protects against lightning strikes. If a believer lacks humility to lead a righteous life, he can ask a saint for help.

Anna from Russia

Another saint, Anna Kashinskaya, also managed to fully acquire a peaceful spirit. It is patience that becomes the path that can lead to salvation. Although she was born into a princely family, young Anna fully learned what losses were. She lived in turbulent times, at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.

Her husband, Prince Mikhail, was killed by denunciation. The eldest son took revenge on the offender for his father, but also died. The same fate befell the second son and even the grandson of the princess. Many in her place would have fallen into despair. But Anna continued to engage in administrative affairs and only at the request of life accepted monasticism.

Prayer is a great help in business; while some are at war, others must make requests to God. The youngest son built a monastery especially for her in Kashin. Her body now rests there; thousands of pilgrims come to the relics every year to receive healing.

Tests awaited the missus even after death. She has already been canonized by Patriarch Nikon. But after he fell out of favor, the name of Anna Kashinskaya was erased from church books. The fact is that on the icon of St. Anna her hands were folded in the two-finger sign of the cross (now it is three-finger). This hinted at the unjustification of reforms.

However, the people did not forget their favorite - recordings of miracles continued, religious processions took place. In the 19th century justice was restored, even re-canonization took place. By the way, this caused a big surge in the popularity of the name Anna. Even the tram in the center of Moscow, which was designated by the letter “A”, was nicknamed “Annushka”.

About the author About the book

Now the saint has three holidays: the discovery of relics, another discovery of relics, and the day of departure to God. The icon of Anna Kashinskaya helps believers cultivate a spirit of humility. She stands up for those who have lost their parents, are widowed, or have lost their children. According to popular tradition, they prayed to St. Anna those who were planning to get married. Monastics also turned to her before tonsure.

On icons, the saint is most often depicted in dark vestments, with a cross, rosary or scroll in her hands. Special prayers have been compiled to address the righteous princess. When praying to the saints, you should first read daily prayers, thank the Lord, and then move on to personal requests

They lived a modest life full of sorrows

Holy Righteous Joachim and Anna

The righteous Joachim and Anna often remain for us, as it were, in the shadow of their Daughter, Her goodness and holiness. They were also so modest and quiet during their earthly life. But those who turn to these saints often feel their special warmth and love for every sufferer.

Those from whom Mary was born, who became the Mother of the Messiah, lived a modest life full of sorrows. All their biographies, preserved by church tradition, say that the family of Joachim went back to King David himself. His wife, from the tribe of Levi, had priests of the Lord in her family. Popular rumor has not preserved any data about what most of the life of this couple was like, only one thing, but the most significant: the Creator did not give them children.

Curse of Mayhem

The fact is that the Jewish people have long been expecting the coming of the Messiah, the Savior, who would save people from sin, from the time of Adam. God's promise about the “seed of the woman” that would save the human race was immutable. And therefore, every family, expecting a child, asked itself with bated breath: is it now? Are we not the parents of the Son of God?

Useful materials

But there were some spouses who remained without children year after year. Such people, the people believed, were completely unworthy of God’s mercy. They were rejected by the Creator, most likely for some secret sins. Among such unfortunates were also Joachim and Anna - righteous, pious, but completely childless.

The wicked do not see the glory of yours, but we are the same, we are the glory of this day and night We sing our praises, more lovingly.

Heaven gave birth to everything on earth, truly, giving birth to a creator, and today she is presented to those in heaven with glory, and is absolutely glorious.

With immaterial ranks, immaterial ᲂу҆мом́м, the joyful face of the rich man: but remember us with the glory of those who praise.

This is the root of Jesse’s prose, the flowering rod that grew it, the glorious one, which did not grow The giver, the deliverer, the deliverer of ours.

We must sing the worthy praise of God: btsⷣꙋ because Mary gave birth to more than hope, a relative in the flesh of Christ and our deliverer We hope that there are many more steps today in the highest, and we pray for peace in the world.

Bgorodichen:

Having born, but new, Mary, the sun of all glory: today the earth has passed to the nbⷭ҇t, happy, blessed naѧ.
