Chosen by God for the conversion of Israel from the deception of Baal, a formidable accuser of lawbreaking kings, shining with fiery zeal for God the Almighty, with holiness of life and miracles, raptured by your flesh into Heaven: and having come to the Second Coming of Christ, we will write praise to you, the prophet of God, Elijah; But you, as you have great boldness towards the Lord, free us from all evils and circumstances through your prayers, those who piously cry out to you: Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Ikos 1
An angel of zeal for God and your pure life, who was in the flesh, prophesied, you were: for even when you were a child, your father Sovah saw bright Angels talking with you, entwining you with fire and feeding you with flame, which signified your fiery zeal for God, the power of your words and your life, like light, immaculate. For this reason, with astonishment, we call you this: Rejoice, chosen from eternity to serve the salvation of the children of Israel; Rejoice, prepared from your mother’s womb to be a herald of Divine truth and piety. Rejoice, O glorious ones who were upon you, surprising you with the vision of your parent; Rejoice, lover of virgin purity and silence from youth. Rejoice, having despised the vanity of this world and all its blessings, and having dedicated your soul entirely to the Lord; Rejoice, illuminated by the light of wisdom from God and filled with the teachings of piety from childhood. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 2
Seeing the wickedness and corruption in Israel, the glorious prophet, you grieved greatly in your spirit and you were inflamed with zeal for the glory of God; For the sons of Israel have worshiped a vile idol, and have departed from the True God; to Him all the hosts of Heaven cry out in fear: Alleluia.
Ikos 2
Having darkened his mind with his evil will, the lawless king of Israel Ahab, abandoned the True God Almighty and worshiped the vile idol Baal, and increased idolatry and wickedness in his kingdom. But you, prophet, filled with great zeal for God, boldly denounced the king, telling him that as a punishment for him and his kingdom, there would be no rain or dew for three years and six months, and there would be a great famine throughout the whole earth. Marveling at the capital of your zeal for God and great boldness, we call you with love: Rejoice, fearless preacher of truth and strong champion of piety; Rejoice, zealous accuser of wickedness. Rejoice, you who bow to the punishment of unrepentant sinners of the long-suffering God; Rejoice, having closed the heavens with your word and made the fruitful earth barren. Rejoice, you who have asked the Lord for a three-year famine for wickedness; Rejoice, for the Most High Lord has given you Ahaav as God, as Moses of old gave to Pharaoh. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 3
By the power of your prayer, wonderful prophet, the sky was truly closed and there was no rain for three summers and six months, and there was a great famine throughout the whole earth: so that, despite the heat and famine, people would repent of their wickedness and turn to the Lord, calling to Him with tenderness: Alleluia.
Ikos 3
Having great favor towards you, prophet. The Lord desires to separate you from the wicked sons of Israel, so that you do not endure hunger and thirst with them, and commands you to go to the stream of Horad, where the ravens feed you, bringing bread and meat. We also bring you this praise: Rejoice, having destroyed by fasting and vigil all earthly and vain thoughts; Rejoice, through prayer and contemplation of God your mind is fixed on heaven. Rejoice, greatness of the patriarchs and beauty of the prophets; Rejoice, praise to the virgins and glory to the saints. Rejoice, teacher of saints and martyrs fortress; Rejoice, for you turned the blinded sons of Israel to the path of truth through wickedness and unbelief. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 4
The great storm that destroys the mountains, the previous one, when it was approaching you, the prophet, in Horeb, the Lord, the same coward appeared, and the Lord was not in a coward, and fire was in the coward, and the Lord was not in the fires, but in the fires there was a thin voice of cold, and that The Lord appeared to you: Feeling His presence, you covered your face with mantle, calling to Him with fear and joy: Alleluia.
Ikos 4
The wicked king Ahab heard your command to gather the entire tribe of Israel to Mount Carmel, and to bring the cold prophets of Baal to that end, sending Abiye, gathering them all, and he himself came there. But you, a zealot of the glory of God, although of course you should disgrace the vile idols and glorify the True God, you commanded to prepare two sacrifices, but do not put fire on you, saying: and the God who listens to fire will be God. Then all the people heard it and decided, “Iliin’s verb is good, so be it.” We, magnifying you, call: Rejoice, great messenger of the Heavenly King and herald of His holy commands; Rejoice, adamante, invincible in jealousy and unshakable pillar of piety. Rejoice, strong defender of the truth and firm opponent of the enemies of God; Rejoice, destroyer of wickedness and planter of piety. Rejoice, fiery zealot of the Divine Glory; Rejoice, for in the last days of the world you will preach the True God and expose the accursed Antichrist. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 5
The lawless queen Jezebel extinguished your godly star: she was filled with rage at you for the destruction of her cold prophets, wanting to kill you. For her heart was hardened and did not want to believe in your miracles, prophet, and come to know the True God, singing to Him: Alleluia.
Ikos 5
When all the people of Israel, through your prayer, saw fire from the Lord descend from heaven on your sacrifice, the most praiseworthy prophecy, and burned it all, consuming wood, and stone, and dust, and water, falling on their faces, crying out: “Truly the Lord is God.” , That is God. And your people believe in God, and you have slain the cold prophets. Glorifying the Almighty, miracle-working God, to you, His saint, we say: Rejoice, great boldness towards the Lord of all things; Rejoice, having confirmed the Divine Truth through signs and wonders. Rejoice, thou who has put to shame the deception of demons, and glorified the true faith; Rejoice, enlightened infidels with the true knowledge of God. Rejoice, by pouring water three times on the altar, you revealed the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity; Rejoice, for all the nature of those who exist obeyed you, and fire and water serve you. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 6
The preacher of true knowledge of God and piety appeared, prophetically, not only in Israel, but also in the land of the pagans, having been sent from the Lord to Zarephath of Sidon to the ash widow to feed, moreover, she herself was fed in famine: having great miracle-working grace, you multiplied there was plenty of flour and oil in her house, until the smooth time had passed, and with three blows, through your prayer, you raised her dead son, singing to the miracle-working God: Alleluia.
Ikos 6
Having shone with great zeal for God the Almighty, you grieved greatly, prophet, for you had abandoned His covenant to the sons of Israel, dug up His altars and killed His prophets. The Lord will tell you for your consolation, that not all Israel shall depart from him, but that he shall have seven thousand of his hidden servants, who have not bowed the knee to Baal. Moreover, remembering your zeal for God, we sing to you with reverence: Rejoice, faithful servant and neighbor of the Lord; Rejoice in the image and praise of the pious shepherds. Rejoice, teacher of salvation and enlightenment of those who sit in darkness; Rejoice, you instill courage as a defender of the truth, and strengthen them in struggles and suffering for the truth. Rejoice, for you burned with seraphic fiery love for God; Rejoice, for the Lord listened to you in everything and did everything at your request. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 7
Although the Lord, the Lover of Mankind, showed His mercy to the repentant sinner, after the passage of the prophesied good times, He sent down through your prayer, prophet, and the word of your mouth, abundant and peaceful rain on the thirsty land: the sons of Israel, having received so much mercy, cried out to God with tenderness of heart: Alleluia.
Ikos 7
The new wicked king Ahab added atrocity to his iniquity when he commanded to kill the innocent Naboth and steal his grapes. For this reason, denouncing the lawless king, you prophesied to him, prophetically, that where Naboth was killed, there swine and dogs would lick his blood, and his wife Jezebel would be eaten by dogs, and his whole house would be destroyed. Knowing that this terrible prophecy has come true, we are horrified, calling: Rejoice, formidable avenger of those who offend and hard-hearted; Rejoice, strong intercessor of the orphans and those who are attacked. Rejoice, punisher of those who do not honor the holy holidays of the Orthodox Church; Rejoice, you insolent blasphemers of the Name of God, destroyer. Rejoice, you strike down the lawless with a word of reproof like thunder, Rejoice, you who know the future as if you are present, who know and are far away as if you are near, prophesy. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 8
The Lord showed a strange and supernatural providence to you, prophet, when He commanded the greedy and child-unloving crows to feed you in the famine during the flood of Horad, where you constantly remained in prayer and contemplation of God, and you sang to God: Alleluia.
Ikos 8
You were all adorned with great humility, prophet of God, for this reason, for the sake of two fifty commanders from the army who came to you with pride, so that they would lead you to the lawless king Ahaziah, you burned with fire, and with humility, Obadiah, who came to you, like the disciples of the prophets, you had mercy on. For this reason, we bring you these songs of praise: Rejoice, humbler and punisher of the proud, and protector and intercessor of the humble; Rejoice, punisher of bribe-taking judges, but a helper of justice to those who judge. Rejoice, supporter of the faithful army in battle, and destroyer of the wicked; Rejoice, clothed with wisdom like armor, and protected with righteousness like a shield. Rejoice, thou armed with zeal for God, as with a sword, and winged with fasting as with wings; Rejoice, in faith, covered like a helmet of salvation, and covered with love, like a crown of light, crowned. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 9
Every human nature is greatly amazed at how you, most wonderful prophet, walked for fourty days, neither eating nor drinking, to Mount Horeb, where you were honored with the glorious appearance and sweet conversation of the Lord Almighty, singing to Him: Alleluia.
Ikos 9
The prophets of many things are perplexed enough to understand and explain how you, great name Elijah, are in the flesh the son of mankind and were servile to us, you were caught up with your body into heaven, which appeared to you in a chariot of fire with horses of fire. Glorifying the Lord who has glorified you and marveling at your admiration, we reverently call to you: Rejoice, you who put to death the old man within yourself through wonderful abstinence; Rejoice, you have consumed every material thought within yourself with the fire of Divine jealousy. Rejoice, by your translation into Heaven the human race has been rejoiced and assured of Eternal Life; Rejoice, venerable and glorified above all the ancient prophets by honor and supernatural glory from God. Rejoice, joyfully met by the angelic faces in the heavenly villages; Rejoice, for your name is revered throughout the world, and your zeal for God is greatly glorified. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 10
May the All-Good God save the people of Israel from the deception of Baal, choose you, the great prophet, as the instrument of his will and invest you with Divine power and strength, so that you may convert the unfaithful, correct the lawless, enlighten the darkened and teach everyone to cry out to God: Alleluia.
Ikos 10
Be a wall and intercession for us, most holy prophet, with your powerful intercession, quenching the righteous wrath of God, which strikes us, sinners and indecent ones, with rainlessness and famine, as well as with corrupting winds and diseases, so that, having been delivered from troubles, we sing to you in gratitude: Rejoice, you enclose heaven with your prayers and open, sending forth the fruitfulness of the earth and the barrenness from God; Rejoice, by your intercession before God the rains are peaceful and the life-giving dew is brought down on the earth's vegetation. Rejoice, you calm the fierce waves of the sea and terrible storms and control thunder and lightning according to the will of God; Rejoice, tame the corrupting winds and deadly plagues that strike men and animals. Rejoice, nourisher of orphans and widows and patron of generous people; Rejoice, for you defeat the wicked blasphemers and persecutors of the right faith and drive away the spirits of evil from the servants of God. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 11
Receive a song of tenderness from us, prophet of God Elijah, as you accepted Elisha’s petition, when you ask from you, that the spirit that is in you may be in him, and when, admiring into Heaven, you sent down to him your mantle, even as he took it up, divide, as you did before, the waters of the Jordan, and become an heir of God's grace that acted in you: cover us with the mercy of your mercy from all troubles and circumstances, and let us cry to God with thanksgiving: Alleluia.
Ikos 11
You were a radiant luminary in Israel, an all-valid prophet, shining with your life and wisdom equal to the angels, also with your unusual zeal for God and glorious miracles, enlightening people with the true knowledge of God and dispelling the darkness of idolatry. Let us also sing praiseworthy words: Rejoice, radiant star, who illuminated the entire universe with your radiance; Rejoice, luminous light, constantly burning and enlightening those who sit in the darkness. Rejoice, illuminated by the spirit of wisdom and reason, filled with the spirit of advice and strength; Rejoice, enlightened by the spirit of knowledge and piety and filled with the spirit of the fear of God. Rejoice, adorned with lofty virtues and glorious miracles; Rejoice, for you fulfilled the judgments of God on earth, and you anointed prophets and kings. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.
Kontakion 12
Great grace was given to you from God, O most praiseworthy prophet, for in your earthly life you prophesied and performed wondrous miracles, and you were also prenaturally caught up in your flesh into heaven: after your rapture, you marvelously appeared on Tabor to the Transfigured Lord and you talked with him , and to this day you have not ceased to work miracles and pour out mercy and healing to those who zealously worship you, and to those who truly cry out to God: Alleluia.
Ikos 12
Singing your fiery zeal for God and your life as equal to the angels, your wondrous and glorious miracles and the Lord’s great goodwill towards you, we praise you, great name of the prophet Elijah: otherwise we cannot adequately depict your greatness and glory, with tenderness we call to you, the titular one: Rejoice, ark of the Divine Glory and honor to the Church of the Holy Trinity; Rejoice, everlasting lamp of the Churches and fragrant flower of the Divine Paradise. Rejoice, leader of pious hermits, teacher and strengthener of virgins; Rejoice, for you stir up sinners to repentance and intercede for the whole Christian race with Eternal Life. Rejoice, for in the brightness of the saints you enjoy the unspeakable glory and constantly praise the Lord; Rejoice, for at the end of times there will be great signs and wonders to confirm the desire for people to perform in the true faith and to expose the Antichrist. Rejoice, Elijah, great prophet, glorious forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ.

In the flesh, an angel, the foundation of the prophets, the second forerunner of the coming of Christ, the glorious Elijah, who received food from the angel and nourished the widow of Sarepta in a time of famine, be a gracious nourisher for us who honor you. Amen.
Elijah the Prophet Monastery
Based on materials from an article from volume 21 of the Orthodox Encyclopedia.
Elijah the Prophet Monastery [Deir-Mar-Ilyas; Greek?; Arab.?], male, active, belongs to the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, is located on the way from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, not far from the tomb of Rachel. However, for the first time this monastery was mentioned in Western history. pilgrims approx. 1160 According to John Phocas (1185), the I. p. m., “erected by the most ancient God-loving men,” was destroyed by an earthquake and restored by the Syrian abbot at the expense of the Byzantines. imp. Manuel I. (John Phocas, a brief legend about cities and countries from Antioch to Jerusalem, also Syria, Phenicia and the holy places of Palestine at the end of the 12th century. // PPS. 1889. Vol. 8. Issue 2(23). P. 24, 54). Apparently, this refers to the earthquake that occurred ca. 1157 According to Greek. to an anonymous pilgrim (1187), the monastery, which had a church with a dome (PG. 133. Col. 989), was located on the spot where the prophet. An angel appeared to Elijah, who was hiding in the desert from Jezebel (3 Kings 19:4-8). Westerners appealed to this legend. pilgrims (including Philip of Savona (1283) and Nicholas of Poggibonsi (1346-1350)), while pilgrims who lived later mistakenly associated the foundation of the monastery with either the birthplace of the prophet. Elijah - Nompar de Gomont (1418), John Poloner (1422), B. Amiko (1620) - or with the place where the prophet retired during a drought (3 Kings 17, 1-7), - Ignatius of Smolyanin (1396-1402) (The Walk of Ignatius of Smolyanin // PPS. 1887. T. 4. Issue 12(3). P. 22), or even with the place where he was taken to heaven - Peter de Pennis (c. 1350). The last 2 events of Old Testament history are traditionally associated with the cave of the prophet. Elijah in the Khoziva monastery and with the Harran gorge beyond the river. Jordan (currently on the territory of Jordan).
A number of New Testament legends are also associated with I. p.m. It is believed that he is right here. An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying: “Do not be afraid to accept Mary your wife, for that which is born in her is of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20), and that at this place the Magi again saw a star, which they had lost sight of, when they came to Jerusalem to ask “where is he who was born King of the Jews” (Matthew 2.2) (RaptTpouloj. 1996. S. 140-141).
In zap. sources mention a visit by Abbot I. p.m. to the camp of Richard I the Lionhearted Beit Nuba (June 1192), to whom he discovered the place where he had hidden part of the Holy Cross of the Lord. According to Roger of Howden, the cache was located directly in the c. prophet Elias, while Ralph of Coggeshall places him in the monastery of St. Samuel on his way from Beit Nuba to Jerusalem.
John Poloner describes the I. p. m. as a tall building with a beautiful church and a well next to the south. wall (1422); Francesco Suriano (1485) notes that 2 Greeks labored in it. monk Daniil, Metropolitan Ephesian (1478-1488), in the beginning. 80s XV century found this Orthodox monastery abandoned by monks (Tale and journey through the holy places of Daniel, Metropolitan of Ephesus / Trans.: G. S. Destunis // PPS. 1884 T. 3. Issue 2(8). P. 50-51). In 1492 the monastery belonged to the Muslims, and in 1517 - again to the Greeks.
The Ottoman census of 1553/54 mentions "Deir Mar Ilyas" among the mon-reys. In 1593, Trifon Korobeinikov gave alms to the priests living in I. p. m. Dorotheus and the 7 Elders (The Walk of Trifon Korobeinikov: 1593-1594 // PPS. 1889. T. 9. Issue 3(27). P. 99).
Since the 17th century the inhabitants of I. p. m. showed the pilgrims the imprint on the stone left by the sleeping prophet. Elijah. This stone “in the shape of a seat, on which one can see, as it were, an embossed trace of a lying person,” is located opposite the monastery gate (Leonid (Kavelin). 2008. pp. 260, 263). Next to him there flows a spring bearing the name of the prophet. Elijah.
Vasily Gagara found 30 monks in the monastery in 1635 (Life and journey to Jerusalem and Egypt of Kazan Vasily Yakovlevich Gagara: 1634-1637 // PPS. 1891. T. 11. Issue 3(33). P. 16). In 1647, under Patriarch Paisius, the restored I. p. p. became one of the main economic centers of the patriarchate: diac. Jonah the Little (1651) mentions the arable lands, vineyards and groves of olive trees that belonged to the mon-rue (Tale-legend about the journey to Jerusalem and Constantinople of the Trinity Sergius Monastery of the black deacon Jonah the Little: 1649-1652 // PPS. 1895. Vol. 14 Issue 3 (42), p. 21). The most detailed description of I. p. m. is contained in V. G. Grigorovich-Barsky (1726): “Even though it seems small from the outside to be, it contains many buildings inside... and it is cramped inside. It is the temple of the pre-elections, large and temple, with one head, which can be seen outside the monastery from afar, but it is supported by six pillars... The temple is sometimes beautifully painted with icons, but even though it had been promised, for this reason it was renovated with varnish... The surrounding area is closely connected with the cells, as if from the bottom of nowhere there is a path to the gates, but the monks, for the sake of rules, descend from above the stone buildings down to the doors... There are few meals in the building and the cells are also small, since the church fills the entire monastery with your majesty” (Grigorovich-Barsky V. G. Wanderings according to the holy places of the East from 1723 to 1747. St. Petersburg, 1885. Part 1. pp. 370-371). Grigorovich-Barsky and the pilgrim Serapion (1751) also report “dokuku” from the Bedouins, the Crimean monks were forced to pay rent in kind.
Frescoes with episodes from the lives of the prophets Elijah and Elisha are mentioned by R. Pocock (1743).
Chronicles of the Palestinian Greeks early. XIX century preserved evidence that during the uprising of the inhabitants of South. Palestine against the Damascus Pasha in 1825, the rebels used Mont-ri as strongholds, and also hid their property there. Wanting to get the fellah money hidden in the I. p. m., the pasha subjected the abbot to torture. Flavian Monastery (Neophyte of Cyprus. Twenty years or continuation of everything that happened in the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem from 1821 to the present 1841 // Materials for the history of the Jerusalem Patriarchate of the 16th-19th centuries. St. Petersburg, 1901. Vol. 1. P. 139 (PPS; T. 19. Issue 1(55)).
The buildings of the monastery were renovated in 1858-1859. The last restoration was undertaken in 1976-1977. Cypriot Archimandrite Arkady (later Metropolitan of Ascalon). No special study has been carried out to determine whether the existing 3-nave domed basilica includes fragments of a medieval building. At the north The walls contain the tombs of the Bethlehem bishops Elijah († 1345) and Michael († 1811). A later legend connects one of these tombs with the name of the Jerusalem Patriarch Elijah (Ilia II?). Currently time in I. p. m. 1 monastic labors - abbot. Parthenius.
Shrines: a particle of the relics of St. Nektarios of Aegina, Metropolitan. Pentapolsky, links of chains of the military service. St. George the Victorious, from which healings occur.
In 1992, during work to expand the Jerusalem-Bethlehem highway, the ruins of a Byzantine church were discovered near I. p.m. period. From the south On its side it borders on the Bir Kadismu spring. During excavations Oct. 1992 - Feb. 1993 app was investigated. part of the church and mosaic floors were discovered, which were then covered up for preservation. During excavations in 1997, it became clear that the church was built in the 5th century, rebuilt in the 6th century, and in the 8th century. converted into a mosque and destroyed shortly thereafter. This building was identified with the c. known from written sources. Kathismas of the Most Holy. Mother of God (see more details in the article of Kathisma mon-ry), built on the place where She rested on the way to Bethlehem. According to the Life of St. Theodosius the Great, monastery church. Kathisma was built by a rich widow during the reign of St. Juvenalia, Archbishop. Jerusalem (422-458), St. Theodosius for some time was the abbot of the monastery of Kathisma (Cyr. Scyth. Vita Theod. S. 235-241). In the center of the octagonal church there is a rock, shaped like a seat. Almost all church rooms had mosaic floors, some of which were added in the 8th century. PRAYERS TO THE HOLY PROPHET ELIJAH
First prayer
Oh, most praiseworthy and wonderful prophet of God Elijah, who shone on earth with your life like the angels, with your most ardent zeal for the Lord God Almighty, and also with glorious signs and wonders, at the very least in God's favor towards you, he was naturally caught up in a chariot of fire with your flesh to heaven, being able to converse with the Savior of the world who was transformed on Tabor, and now in the heavenly villages he unceasingly dwells and stands before the Throne of the Heavenly King! With your prayers, prophet, abolish the evil customs of the world, and especially the destructive and corrupting spirit of this age, infecting the Christian race with disrespect for the Divine Orthodox Faith, for the rules of the Holy Church. the church and the commandments of the Lord, disrespect for parents and those in power, and casting people into the abyss of wickedness , corruption and destruction. Turn away from us, most wonderfully prophesied, by your intercession the righteous wrath of God and deliver all the cities and villages of our fatherland from rainlessness and famine, from terrible storms and earthquakes, from deadly ulcers and diseases, from invasion enemies and internecine warfare. Strengthen with your prayers, most glorious, those who hold our power in the great and arduous labor of government, prosper them in all their good deeds and undertakings for the establishment of peace and truth in our country. Help the Christ-loving army in battles with our enemies. Ask, prophet of God, from the Lord for our shepherds holy zeal for God, heartfelt concern for the salvation of the flock, wisdom in teaching and government, piety and strength in temptation, ask the judges - impartiality and selflessness, righteousness and compassion for the offended, all superiors care for their subordinates, mercy and justice, and obedience to the subordinates and care for their obedience. Yes, having lived in peace and piety in this world, we will be worthy of the communion of eternal blessings in the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom honor and worship are due with His Beginning Father and the Most Holy by the Spirit forever and ever. Second prayer
Oh, great and glorious prophet of God Elijah, for the sake of your zeal for the glory of the Lord God Almighty, not patient to see the idolatry and wickedness of the sons of Israel, denouncing the lawless king Aha Wow, and as a punishment for those, a three-year famine upon the land of Israel, through your prayer you asked from the Lord, yes, rejecting the abomination idols and retreat from untruths and iniquities, turn to the One True God and the fulfillment of His holy commandments, the widow of Sarepta in the famine was wonderfully fed and her son died with prayers having resurrected you, after the passage of the time of famine, the people of Israel were gathered to Mount Carmel in apostasy and wickedness reproaching, also asking fire for your sacrifice from heaven with a prayer, and miraculously converting Israel to the Lord, and the cold prophets of Baal were put to shame and killed, after these same prayers You have loosed the sky and asked for abundant rain on the earth, and the people of Israel have rejoiced! To you, wonderful servant of God, we diligently resort to sin and humility, tormented by rainlessness and heat; We confess that you are unworthy of God’s mercy and blessings, but are more worthy than the cruel punishments of His wrath, sorrow and need, and all kinds of evils and illnesses. We did not walk in the fear of God and in the ways of His commandments, but in the lusts of our depraved hearts we created countless types of sin; Our iniquity is greater than our head, and we are not worthy to appear before the face of God and see into heaven. We confess, as we, like ancient Israel, have apostatized from the Lord our God; if we do not believe, then we are our iniquities, and if we do not worship Baal and other vile idols, then we are servile. our passions and lusts, serving the idol of gluttony and lust, the idol of covetousness and ambition, the idol of pride and vanity, and we follow the ungodly foreign customs and the destructive spirit of the times. We confess that for this reason the heavens were closed and created like copper, for our hearts were closed with mercy and true love for our neighbor; For this reason the earth has hardened and become barren, because we do not bring to our Lord the fruits of good deeds; for this reason there is no rain and dew, as if not the imams of tears of tenderness and life-giving dew of God-thought; For this reason, every grain and grass has withered away, because every good feeling has been consumed in us; For this reason, the air is darkened, as our mind is darkened with cold thoughts and our heart is defiled with lawless lusts. We confess that you, the prophet of God, have made a request unworthy of us. You, having become a servile man to us, became like an angel in your life and, like an incorporeal being, you were caught up into heaven; With our cold thoughts and deeds we have become like dumb cattle, and we have made our soul like flesh. You surprised angels and men with fasting and vigil, but we, indulging in intemperance and lust, become like foolish cattle. You burned with extreme zeal for the glory of God, but we neglect the glory of our Creator and Lord, and we are ashamed to confess His venerable name. You have eradicated wickedness and evil customs, but we are slaves to the spirit of this age, which places the ungodly customs of the world above the commandments of God and the statutes of the holy Church. And what sin and untruth have we not committed? Our iniquity exhausts the long-suffering of God. Moreover, the just Lord became angry with us, and in His anger punished us. Knowing your great boldness before the Lord and trusting in your love for the human race, we dare to pray to you, most praiseworthy prophet: be merciful to us, unworthy and unneeded, beg May the Great and All-Generous God not be completely angry with us and destroy us with our lawlessness, but may abundant and peaceful rain descend upon the thirsty and parched earth, may it give it fruitfulness and the goodness of the air; bow with your effective intercession to the mercy of the King of Heaven, not for the sake of us sinners and abominations, but for the sake of His chosen servants, who did not bow their knee to the Baal of this world, ra for the sake of gentle and foolish babies, for the sake of dumb cattle and birds of the sky, suffering for our iniquity and melting away from hunger, heat and thirst. Ask us with your favorable prayers from the Lord for the spirit of repentance and heartfelt tenderness, the spirit of meekness and self-control, the spirit of love and patience, the spirit of fear of God and piety, and so, having returned from the paths of wickedness I am on the right path of virtue, we walk in the light of God’s commandments and we will achieve those promised to us good things, by the good will of the Beginningless God the Father, by the love of His Only Begotten Son and by the grace of the All-Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer three
Oh, holy prophet of God Elijah, pray for us, the Lover of Mankind, that God may give us, the servants of God (names), the spirit of repentance and contrition for our sins, and with His omnipotent grace, may He help us in the ways of wickedness. viti, excel in everything you do, and in the fight against our passions and lusts, may he strengthen us; May the spirit of humility and meekness, the spirit of brotherly love and kindness, the spirit of patience and chastity, the spirit of zeal for the glory of God and good care for the salvation of ourselves and our neighbors, implant into our hearts. Turn away from us the righteous wrath of God by your intercession, so that having lived in peace and piety in this world, we will be worthy of communion of eternal blessings in the Kingdom of the Lord and our Savior Jesus Christ, like Him To honor and worship, with His Beginning Father and the Most Holy Spirit, forever and ever .
