In the fourth year, speech becomes more complicated in many ways, for example, a suffix-prefix method of word formation appears, words with a diminutive meaning. At the age of five, a child’s speech completes its basic development. This is the speech of an adult: the child uses complex and compound sentences, and is able to retell or compose a story himself. If problems arise at any of the above stages, adults should get involved and start helping the child. The child himself cannot lead himself anywhere. The start time, frequency and quality of classes are largely a parental responsibility.

Initially, help is organized by parents, and only then is the personal professional responsibility of those whom the family chooses to participate in. Children, in addition to correctional capabilities, have great compensatory abilities, so there is every chance to correct speech disorders before school, in some cases up to 12 years, before adolescence.

A six-year-old girl once came to my appointment, absolutely non-speaking; her mother had only one question: would her child be able to speak. Next, you need to remember that almost all textbooks say: if a child does not speak before the age of six, then he will not speak again. But one can answer so categorically only if we are talking about Mowgli, who grew up in a wild environment and does not understand social motives. And here the child grew up in society, throughout his life he heard speech and generally understood it. We started working out: the results appeared quite quickly.

By school the child spoke completely. It is clear that all speech problems were not solved; we collaborated throughout our entire time in primary school: we improved vocabulary, grammar, coherent speech - everything that we did not have time to develop before school.

But I also want to note that the girl understood the social tasks of schooling: you can keep up with everyone only if you are more successful in something else. She compensated for speech problems by pacing - she wrote faster than anyone in the class, leaving time to “think” and check.

A very good visual memory also helped - there were no mistakes in vocabulary words. Plus, a talent was discovered - a beautiful singing voice. The girl participated in all musical events of the school. So, in the end, everything worked out for her, and now the girl is finishing school.

The main thing is not to dismiss the child, but to use your professionalism and begin to provide assistance, even if all the sensitive (most favorable) periods are missed.

– You started talking about norms. So there are rules? After all, now you can hear the opinion that every child is individual and there is no need to force everyone into the norm.

– I won’t even argue: of course, every person is unique. But the fact is that there are concepts of health and illness. Health has normal limits, so we measure blood sugar, pulse, blood pressure. Why does human development have no norm? It exists, it’s just important to remember that the norm is a broad concept, not a scary point. Let's compare the norm with the segment. At one end of the line there is a “simple” mind, at the other end there is giftedness. Beyond the ends of the segment is not the norm - genius and mental retardation.

Where are most of us? Neurolinguist Tatyana Chernigovskaya says that there are few smart people. Perhaps, after these words, I claim the middle. It is necessary to talk about normalization: the development of children must correspond at each age to the stages of development of speech ontogenesis.

Based on this, if a child does not speak at three years old, this is not the norm.

I knew a wonderful specialist from St. Petersburg University, Valery Anatolyevich Kovshikov, who recorded how speech developed in the children of students of the defectology faculty in different decades. For those born in the 1970s, the scientist noted good speech norms. Children began to develop their first words before they were one year old, and at two years old they began to develop phrases. Everything is as it should be.

In the 90s, the speech development of children moved towards the lower limit of the speech norm. But I understand where many people’s rejection of the norm comes from, and these are by no means medical problems. The root of the problems is social: issues of tolerance - the acceptance of people who do not fit into the very norm, whom they are trying to separate, to drive into reservations.

When we professionally talk about the norm, we mean something completely different - a state to which we will pull the child, something to guide him towards, without forgetting about his own resources.

– It happens that you have a child who is studying without mental disorders, do you see that there is progress, and then, after some time, regression?

– Regression, when something happened, development went in the other direction, this is a tragedy. This, for example, happens in children with autism. But more often from parents I hear the word “rollback”, that is, deterioration of the condition. For me this is a very expressively colored word. Moreover, I insist that there should be no “kickbacks” if a plan to help the child is drawn up correctly.

Why then are we talking about this? Because parents stopped trusting specialists and started treating themselves. “We prescribed a good pill from Japan,” my mother explains her actions. And I know that in Japan it is very difficult to prescribe a “pill,” and it turns out that the “pill” is not from the Land of the Rising Sun, but from the Internet, and another mother prescribed it in the hallway.

One more example. The mother comes in upset: “The child has a setback after such and such a procedure! He didn’t sleep all night yesterday, crying!” During the consultation, it turns out that in another medical institution the child was prescribed a drug that can cause agitation, so it should not be combined with the procedure. The parents decided to combine what different doctors prescribed - on their own. When the drug was stopped, sleep returned - no rollbacks, we continue the procedure. You should not parallelize several treatment regimens or create them yourself, but if there is such an initiative on the part of the parent, then the attending physician should be aware of the “experiment.”

I have a lot of experience and, accordingly, a lot of different stories. Sometimes parents seem to be starting some kind of “game”, for example: “And if they hadn’t shown you this encephalogram, but brought a clean one, would you have taken us for the procedure?” What should I say to my mother? You cannot go this way, because a child is not a toy, not someone with whom experiments are carried out.

EARLY DEVELOPMENT CAN BE HARMFUL

– Can early development classes affect speech?

– Early development is laid down by nature itself and lies in the fact that a child, being born into the world, immediately encounters the diversity of what he develops - noises, sounds, tastes, smells, impressions, colors.

So mom swaddled her - proprioceptive sensations, put her in the stroller and took her outside, and there were tree branches, sky, clouds overhead - visual gnosis, dad came home from work and spoke in a bass voice - auditory perception, and there are a lot of such impressions throughout the day. This is all the development of a child.

In the first year of life, babies should receive hygiene procedures, affection, emotions and develop, like a flower develops under the rays of the sun.

What is not needed for “early development” is hanging mobiles and bright shiny jingling toys in front of the baby’s face. It seems to me that the psyche of a recently born person is very alarmed by everything loud and noisy. If you have already purchased such a toy, then let it hang at a sufficient distance from the baby.

A specialist gets involved when there is a problem. For example, a child crawls, leaning to one side or stretching on his arms without involving his legs, then we involve a specialist - a massage therapist. At the beginning of life, most likely, a massage therapist should appear, and not a speech therapist and psychologist with educational toys and letters. By developing motor skills and improving physical development, we a priori “launch” speech.

I am categorically against “development from the cradle”, “reading before walking”. Demonstration of letters and words to a baby is generally not a very understandable phenomenon for me. Anyone who knows physiology understands that the reading function is formed on the basis of other functions, when speech, control, motivation have already been formed, and emotional development has passed a certain stage. Only then is it possible to perceive absolute abstraction in the form of a letter.

And if we want to offer a letter early, then we will not get anything but enuresis, tics and something similar.

We know that before school children have not developed selective attention, have not formed memory, and have poorly developed speech in order to read fluently. The result is nothing but problems and no early reading.

If a child is truly gifted, he usually learns to read at an early age without the help of his parents. We are not stopping this process.

– Sometimes, if a child has problems with speech, parents think: well, now we’ll send him to kindergarten - is that right?

– This only applies to delayed children. We are social people, from this side the kindergarten is justified - the child begins to copy, imitate speech, the delay is leveled out.

On the other hand, if I had a choice, I would not want to go to kindergarten. Before the revolution, there were large families with their own foundations, traditions, and habits. And the child was not afraid to object to his peers: “But my mother said that this is not necessary,” and behind this the authority of the entire huge family resounded.

Before school, something important and core for the child is formed. But it is clear that kindergarten is a strict necessity for many. Parents have to go to work. Then it is important to just keep your finger on the pulse and make sure that the child is not offended.

Returning to speech, I will say again that the team helps it develop only in those children for whom it is physiologically delayed. For severe speech disorders, this does not work as a panacea; in this case, a set of measures is needed in various areas of rehabilitation.

– So, parents shouldn’t place their hopes on their child coming to kindergarten and speaking?

– Only to those parents who have a normotypical child. Being such, he comes to the same normotypical kids who are already speaking, and begins to imitate them.

If a child has alalia, an organic disorder of brain activity, then nothing will appear here “by itself.” By the way, there are few children in life who are absolutely non-speaking. The question is about the quality of speech. Five words are not enough for a three-year-old child, not to mention a six-year-old - catastrophically few. So, returning again to the question about early development, classes with a three-year-old child who speaks poorly are not early development, but a necessity.

MYTHS ABOUT SPEECH DEVELOPMENT

Myth: The child is silent, silent, and then suddenly speaks in whole sentences. Just like Vasya at his neighbor's. So you have to wait up to three (up to five) years.

In reality: Yes, there are smart children - “accumulators” who see that they cannot speak like their father and mother, and wait for the moment when they will succeed. And then they start speaking in phrases. But this should happen not at four years old, and especially not at five years old, but at two or three years. This can happen, this is a physiological norm, which can be seen in other development parameters. It is better to have the condition assessed by a specialist.

“Children can be silent, and then suddenly start talking, like the child from the next door started talking at 5 years old” - this is really a myth. I joke about this that it’s better to wait until you’re 33. But, jokes aside, it’s unlikely that anyone has the fortitude of St. Ilya of Muromets. Everyone else who does not have such prayer power, apparently, still needs to work with a specialist, not paying attention to the myths about the neighbor Vasya. Because somehow, magically, a Vasya from the next door settled in every house, and in the same miraculous way he spoke at the age of 5.

Perhaps a child who mythically spoke at age 5 has mental retardation, but your situation is completely different, or after five years of silence the child may have simple and amorphous speech, but this is not what the parents ask for. Nobody really knows anything, but the legend is passed on further and further.

Let me remind you that speech is a complex system in which there are phonetic, lexical, grammatical and stylistic means. Speech is closely integrated with all human mental processes. Based on this, its long absence can cause irreparable damage to the development of all mental functions of the body and affect further education and choice of profession.

Myth: If you trim the frenulum at the dentist, your child will start talking.

In reality: There is a real basis behind this myth. If the tongue lies in the oral cavity and does not rise up, then the short hyoid frenulum pulls the tongue down and the formation of sounds, for example, [w], [zh], [h], [sch], [r], [l] is impossible.

If you do not cut the frenulum at the dentist, the child will not begin to speak - this is really a myth, because the child can speak by replacing some sounds with others (“hoyosho” - good). Thus, the frenulum is involved in the quality of speech, diction, sound pronunciation, but not in speech itself.

Myth: The child is smart, hears everything, responds to names, responds with his eyes, but there is no speech. There is no need to worry - since he is smart, he will speak on his own one day.

In reality: Indeed, we rely on the child’s non-verbal intelligence. This, of course, is not just “clever eyes”, but also the ability to perform intellectual tasks without relying on speech. These are so-called test actions. And then, indeed, there are few people in life who never spoke.

“Since the child is smart, there is no need to worry, he will speak on his own one day” - this is a myth. The fact that the child is initially smart is great; this will be a support for classes on speech development. But if you do not eliminate the problem that interferes with speech development, there will be no improvement.

Just imagine, there is a beautiful car, very elegant, powerful, but it has a fault. It's the same with speech. If the “speech machine” does not start on its own and on time, then the underlying pathological mechanism of the disorder lies. There are quite a lot of these disorders, and each has its own pathogenesis.

Myth: Developing fine motor skills will allow a child to speak.

In reality: Yes, teachers and educators have noticed that fine motor skills to one degree or another affect the development of speech. Especially when they combine two programs - motor and speech. When they recite a poem and accompany it with actions. There is such a technique - “tell poems with your hands.”

Developing fine motor skills will allow a child to speak - this is a myth. If a child has speech apraxia (impaired voluntary purposeful movements in the absence of motor disorders, such as paresis, paralysis), as a result of which he does not speak (alalia), you can sort through cereals with him for as long as you like, speech will not appear on its own.

Don’t forget that the game also develops emotions (role playing with different facial expressions and using the voices of different fairy tale characters). You can ask your child to “rate” the emotion of a person in a picture or a cartoon character (happy, sad, upset, etc.).

This ritual over milk is considered more powerful and is used if parents want their child to loosen his tongue faster.

Most often, conspiracies were read using water that was used to run over a child, or even a children’s conspiracy was read in a bathhouse. They begin to wash and say three times:

“Mother Ladushka, the Queen of Heaven, washed and steamed her Son - and left some water for you, (child’s name).

Or we know such a conspiracy-whisper:

“Ice King, Water King, give me some spring water to wash myself and take a steam bath. After the steam bath, after the steam bath, give you (child’s name) meekness and humility and God’s mercy.” They say while washing the child to be calm.

If there is a baby in the family, the mother and grandmother certainly know the children's spell for healthy sleep. Many charming words have been preserved from “night howl”, “night and daytime commotion”. These are the words in our North that a mother reads on the porch in the evening, holding her baby in her arms.

After sunset, a woman with disheveled hair and wearing only a nightgown carries a child to the porch, placing his head on her right hand. Stand facing east, leaving your left foot in the entryway, and place your right foot over the threshold on the porch and say the words:

“Zarya the lightning, red maiden! Here's your baby (child's name) who has insomnia, but give him a good night's sleep. Evening dream, night dream, midnight dream, morning dream, don’t sit, don’t toil, don’t amuse yourself with this baby, but toil and amuse yourself with your born children.”

Say the words three times, after each time spit three times through the child. Treat in this way for three evening dawns. They especially talked the child out of the evil eye, ghosts, from “the mother’s bad thoughts and the father’s bad thoughts,” therefore, so that the anxieties of the mother and father would not “stick” to the baby.

There were many ways to do this. The spells are simple, short, read in the presence of the child while washing in the bathhouse, like other children's spells. Place the coal in water and wash the child off the coal:

“Just as nothing sticks to a coal, so nothing sticks to a baby (child’s name): no illnesses, no slander, no sentences.”

If it was necessary to protect a child for a long time, they did it differently: first they washed off any bad things with water, then they read the children’s charm for the amulet, reinforced their words, and gave the amulet to the child to wear or hung it over the crib. Remember that magical rituals only work if strangers do not know about them. You need to read the plot while drinking, for example, plain water or milk. Holding the glass in your hands, read these words:

“In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. I conceived you, carried you under my heart for 9 months, I gave birth to you, I will teach you to speak. Amen".
