The history of the acquisition of the icon goes back to rebellious and dark times. In 1579, only 26 years had passed since the founding of the Kazan diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The people mostly adhered to Islamic traditions. Muslims did their best to prevent the preaching of Christ's blessed word. But the Lord turned the light of truth into a sign. A terrible fire incinerated the settlement and burned part of the Kazan Cathedral to the ground. The Christian Faith became a disgrace, and every idolater made fun of it and mocked it.
Days of celebration: July 21 and November 4
In the midst of the turmoil, the Lord sent his gifts of alms. The daughter of the archer Daniil Onuchin, nine-year-old Matrona, dreamed of the Most Holy Kazan Mother of God and gave orders to find her among the ruins. The Most Pure One appeared three times and pointed out the place where the icon of the Mother of God was buried. But no one believed the little girl’s words. Then Matronushka, with the help of her parents, organized a search and found the face of the Kazan Mother of God, shining with purity and light.

According to religious teachings, illnesses are given to everyone in order to teach something and help in something. Perhaps such logic seems strange to some, but in reality, only thanks to illnesses do many people begin to really reflect on their own existence and gain the opportunity to acquire something and change.
When an illness occurs, there is more time to think about the eternal and realize the value of a healthy life. Many people change after an illness, and if they rethink their shortcomings, then for the better. Many saints and ascetics, as a rule, accepted illnesses without complaint and maintained cheerfulness and clarity of spirit in any situation.
This will help everyone - a simple ritual to fulfill a wish from Mehdi Ebrahimi-Wafa, winner of season 3 of the Battle of Psychics.
The miraculous discovery of a shrine
Residents of the city of Kazan experienced 1579 very hard. A severe fire that started in a local church spread to residential areas of the city and the Kremlin. Many families were left homeless and grief-stricken people began to doubt the existence of Christ and the Orthodox faith. But it was hot outside and craftsmen began to restore homes.
Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
One night, the daughter of a local archer, Matrona, fancied the image of the Virgin Mary. The Mother of God ordered an icon with Her face to be taken out from under the ground and indicated the place where it was located. In the morning, the girl told her parents about the vision, but they only brushed her off, mistaking her daughter’s fascinating story for an ordinary dream. But for two more nights in a row the dream repeated itself.
Then the mother, taking her daughter by the hand, went to the ashes and in the indicated place, under the rubble, deep in the ground, she discovered the icon. Having cleared it of dust and dirt, the woman, amazed by the miracle, saw that the Mother of God’s face was absolutely intact and had not even lost its color.
Local residents immediately realized that the icon was miraculous. A couple of blind men volunteered to take it to the local temple. When they approached the church doors, their joy knew no bounds - they suddenly received their sight! This incident was the first in a huge string of miracles. From that moment on, the prayer of Our Lady of Kazan sounded incessantly, and people in a line reached out to the icon and, according to their faith, began to receive what they asked for.
Ivan the Terrible, having learned about the miracles taking place, ordered a cathedral to be built at the site of the discovery of the holy face and a women's monastic monastery to be created. According to legend, its first nuns were the girl Matrona herself and her mother. Subsequently, many girls and women who truly believed in Christ accepted monasticism in this monastery and faithfully served God until the end of their days.
How to pray for a sick person?
In order to help yourself or your loved ones in treating illnesses, you can use various prayers. Of course, one should not neglect any available medical assistance, so as not to turn out to be the hero of the joke who drowned and continued to pray when they threw him a life jacket and a rope. At the same time, prayers can provide additional assistance, facilitate treatment and speed up recovery.
There is a considerable amount of evidence of healing that was achieved through the assistance of the Orthodox faith. Therefore, any of the prayers listed below should be treated with respect , and believe in the healing power of these prayers, the fulfillment of which is facilitated by the Lord and Orthodox saints.
The most significant factor to include in your prayer is sincerity. Of course, certain technical details can also be important, but still, the inner content of the prayer prevails most of all. If you sincerely and selflessly want to help another person, your help will have a positive impact .
If you have the opportunity, you may well offer prayers daily. Although in general there is no specific rule for saying how many prayers you need to read for a person who suffers from a particular illness. Continue to pray as regularly as you can , one way or another, with your sincere prayers you are making a difference.
Not everyone has the opportunity to attend church to pray. Therefore, you can easily use home icons or simply mentally turn to the Lord or certain saints and say prayers . Let us repeat, in reality the situation is of secondary importance, and in the foreground is your desire to help someone, your sincerity and faith in the miraculous powers of the Almighty and the saints.
Features of the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The icon depicts the Mother of God with the baby Jesus Christ in her arms, who blesses the praying Orthodox. The icon was discovered in 1579 thanks to the young daughter of a Kazan merchant, to whom the Mother of God appeared three times in a dream with instructions to find her image in the ashes.
Based on the name of the place, the found face was called the “Kazan Mother of God.” The miraculous power of the icon manifested itself immediately, restoring sight to two blind men. John IV (Ivan the Terrible) demanded that the icon be delivered to Moscow, where the Kazan Cathedral was built for it.
During the troubles, the icon returned to Kazan. Before the decisive assault on Moscow, Prince Pozharsky prayed with the militia in front of a copy of the image found in Kazan. In the 18th century, a large number of copies were made from the original, which were distributed throughout the world.
The original was lost in 1904. The robbers stole the icon for its precious setting, and destroyed the image itself. The oldest copy dates back to the beginning of the 17th century and is kept in the Tretyakov Gallery. The second list was completed in 1611 and transferred to Prince Pozharsky. The copy in the Prince Vladimir Cathedral (St. Petersburg) is considered to be closest to the prototype.
What powerful prayers should I read?
We offer you prayers that you can read in the temple in front of the icons or in any other conditions available to you. Remember, if you do not have images of saints and other icons at home, you can easily use a printed image or an image on your own computer screen.

Hey, Lord, send down Your healing power from heaven, touch the body, extinguish the fire, tame passion and all lurking infirmities, be the physician of Your servant (the name of the river), raise him from the sick bed and from the bed of bitterness whole and all-perfect, grant him to Your Church pleasing and doing Your will. For it is Yours to have mercy and save us, O our God, and to You we send glory, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Panteleimon
Throughout his entire earthly journey, Saint Panteleimon treated people and performed many miracles. Therefore, since ancient times, this particular saint has been considered a healer and assistant in the treatment of various ailments. In order to get sick less and have support from the saint, it is useful to light candles and pray to Saint Panteleimon on the days of remembrance: August 9.
In order to receive help for a specific person, the following prayer is offered:
O great saint of Christ, passion-bearer and merciful physician, Panteleimon! Have mercy on me, a sinful slave, hear my groaning and cry, propitiate the heavenly, supreme Physician of our souls and bodies, Christ our God, may He grant me healing from the illness that oppresses me. Accept the unworthy prayer of the most sinful man above all, visit me with a gracious visit, do not disdain my sinful wounds, anoint me with the oil of your mercy and heal me; Yes, healthy in soul and body, I will be able to spend the rest of my days, by the grace of God, in repentance and pleasing God and will be worthy to receive a good end to my life. Hey, servant of God! Pray to Christ God, that through your intercession he may grant me health to my body and salvation to my soul. Amen.
This prayer is read in the absence of the person for whom you are praying.
There is another prayer that you can read both when you are sick and without:
Holy great martyr and healer Panteleimon, merciful imitator of God! Look with mercy and hear us, sinners, praying earnestly before your holy icon. Ask us from the Lord God, Who stands with the Angels in heaven, for the forgiveness of our sins and transgressions: heal the mental and physical illnesses of the servants of God, now remembered, those present here and all Orthodox Christians who flow to your intercession: for here we are, through our sins We are fiercely possessed by many ailments and are not imams of help and consolation: we resort to you, for you have given the grace to pray for us and heal every ailment and every illness; Grant therefore to all of us, through your holy prayers, health and well-being of souls and bodies, advancement of faith and piety, and everything necessary for temporary life and salvation, for, having been granted great and rich mercies by you, let us glorify you and the Giver of all good things, wondrous in the saints, God ours, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our Lady of Kazan
This icon is one of the most famous (if such an epithet is even possible to apply to icons) in the Orthodox world. Miraculously acquired, it has been working miracles for more than half a thousand years, including healing . Therefore, in front of this icon they pray for healing.
Oh, Most Holy Lady and Lady Theotokos! With fear, faith and love, falling before Thy honorable icon, we pray to Thee: do not turn Thy face away from those who come running to You, beg, O merciful Mother, Thy Son and our God, the Lord Jesus Christ, to keep our country peaceful, and His Holy Church unshakable will protect from unbelief, heresies and schism. There are no other imams of help, no other imams of hope, except You, Most Pure Virgin: You are the all-powerful Helper and Intercessor of Christians. Deliver all who pray to You with faith from the falls of sin, from the slander of evil people, from all temptations, sorrows, troubles and from vain death. Grant us the spirit of contrition, humility of heart, purity of thoughts, correction of sinful lives and the remission of sins, so that we all sing gratefully of Your greatness and mercy, let us be worthy of the Heavenly Kingdom and there with all the saints we will glorify the most honorable and magnificent name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
Miracles emanating from the Face
The history of the icon is rich in various events. Soldiers offered prayers before her during the liberation of Moscow from impostors. And before the start of the Battle of Poltava, Tsar Peter 1 himself prayed before the Kazan Mother of God.

Prayer for the health of a sick child
As many religious ascetics and mystics testify, children not only have better sensitivity to subtle energies, but are also more susceptible to influences of a non-material nature . Any problems with a child’s health can often be associated with the evil eye, the envy of other people, or damage caused.
Therefore, as a preventive measure (especially if ailments appear without any obvious reasons), you should read the appropriate prayers and enlist the support of saints who protect against all sorts of negative influences.
In addition, you can perform a cleansing ritual, for example with a church candle . There is nothing difficult in this ritual; just a church candle with prayer is brought closer to all parts of the child’s body. You should move the candle close to the body and thus walk over the entire body; if the candle begins to crack, then this sign indicates the possible presence of the evil eye and getting rid of it.
They often pray to the Mother of God for children, who embodies the ideal of motherhood and parental care and can help you heal your own children. Here is a prayer that may help you:
Mother of God, lead me into the image of Your heavenly motherhood. Heal the mental and physical wounds of my children (names) caused by my sins. I entrust my child entirely to my Lord Jesus Christ and Your, Most Pure, heavenly protection. Amen.
Otherwise, you can use the prayers suggested earlier, as they have great power and bring healing.
As an addition, you can use the following option:
Lord Almighty, may Your mercy be on my child (name) (if there are 2 or more children, then we must say “on my children”), preserve and protect him under your cover, protect my child from all evil, give him away all enemies, open his eyes and ears, give humility and tenderness to his little heart. Lord God, we are all Your creatures, have pity on my child (name) and guide him to repentance. Save, O God of the Most High, and have mercy on my child (name) and enlighten his mind with the bright light of the mind of Your Gospel, and direct him on the path of Your commandments, and teach him, Lord, to do Your holy will. Amen.
If any prayers are difficult to remember, then you should first read them from a piece of paper, and then try to recite them by heart.
However, memorizing prayers is not a requirement for any effectiveness . These formulas were originally created in such a way as to help tune in to a certain mood; they allow people who find it difficult to formulate words to express their own desire in the most optimal way.
At the same time, you should not repeat prayers mechanically and as a kind of rhyme, the repetition of which brings some result, you need to pray, that is, put something into your words.
You should not distort the prayers, but if you want, you can change some words to ones that are more understandable and convenient for you, if such changes allow you to pray better . Some old words are not always clear to you, so no one requires you to memorize these words. Moreover, if you are better at praying in your own words, you can do just that.

First miracle
The faces of the Christians lit up with divine joy and they organized a procession with the icon of the Most Pure Virgin. Following Archbishop Jeremiah were two blind men. The eyes of the blind people opened to meet the Divine Light of Truth and their vision returned to them. Since then, pagans have believed in the power of prayers before the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
By order of the royal decree of Ivan the Terrible, the place of the find was turned into a haven for a convent. The life-giving icon was placed under the domes of the erected Kazan Cathedral. Matrona and her mother took monastic vows and served the Most Holy Face of the Mother of God.
Orthodoxy firmly established itself on the Kazan land, absorbing the remnants of infidels onto the righteous path.
From all over the country people came to the miraculous Kazan icon and asked for all kinds of help in life: the sick prayed for health, the poor for work, lonely girls for marriage and children. The Mother of God generously shared Divine mercy and helped everyone who asked.
What does the meaning of the Kazan icon help with?
The face of the Mother of God is an image of Hodegetria the Guide, who has helped people find their true path countless times.
During the Time of Troubles, entire troops went to Moscow under Her protection, soon bringing the liberation of the city from Polish impostors and invaders.
Before the start of the well-known Battle of Poltava, Peter I said some of his most powerful prayers in front of this image of the defender. And in 1812, the same Holy Face helped Russian soldiers repel the raid of French enemies, thereby gaining the beginning of the victories of Russian troops against Napoleon in the Patriotic War. Prince Mikhail Kutuzov also stood before Her in prayer before heading to the active army.
But not only troops and rulers of states can receive the blessing and salvation of the image; ordinary people also turn to the “Kazan” Mother of God for help, and the list of miracles that She bestows on people is constantly growing.
