Interesting facts about the weather Name Day on March 1: who has Angel Day and what not to do March 1 08:19
In Russia, the memory of St. Onuphrius was celebrated in a special way: all work on this day in honor of the monk should have been carried out silently. They said that not a single extra word should be uttered against Onufriy unless absolutely necessary.
On Onuphrius’s day, it was customary to engage in zaseki (the so-called places in barns specially designated for storing grain), sow rye and harvest apples in order to make homemade wine and kvass before the Apple Savior. After all, before the Savior you cannot eat them raw, but you can only process them.
Healers collected “silent” water, which is endowed with extraordinary healing powers. To do this, they got up before sunrise and went to a local source, from where they collected water. At this time it was impossible to utter a word.
What not to do on Onufriy the Silent? Swim in reservoirs - so as not to be dragged to the bottom by the water one; eat raw apples; to be lazy - a person who works well on this day will not need money for the whole next year; leaving the house dirty attracts poverty; borrow and lend; sleep a lot so that there are no problems; Eat a lot.

Birthdays of August
When choosing a baby’s name, you need to approach it extremely consciously and even carefully. After all, if you blindly follow fashion or the modern tendency to name children with incomprehensible names, you can create a lot of difficulties for the child in the future. Everyone knows from childhood how many reasons children have to find fault with each other and start a quarrel. Often, strange names become the cause of mockery , which can subsequently significantly lower a child’s self-esteem.
Recently, the rush for fashionable names has passed, and people are again choosing traditional ones for their children, characteristic of their nationality or religion.
But when choosing names, you should also find out their meaning or read about the saint in whose honor you plan to name the child.
Perhaps it is useful for everyone to know how to choose an Orthodox name according to the calendar.
Saint Eugenia
On August 1, the name day according to the church calendar is celebrated by all Eugenes. They bear the name of the holy martyr, who was born in Rome. From childhood, the meek, kind girl sought to learn the laws of Christianity. She became the abbot of the monastery, hiding the fact that she was not a man. In those days, women had few rights. Thanks to the fact that the Lord endowed Evgenia with the gift of healing people, she helped many recover.
Evgenia died a violent death and was canonized by the Orthodox Church.
LIQUIDATION OF THE COSSACKS
In the summer, on August 3, 1775, Empress Catherine II issued a royal manifesto, which officially liquidated the Zaporozhye Cossacks. The same Cossacks who brought many victories to the Russian empire - for example, only thanks to the Cossacks Peter the Great was able to take the Azov fortress.
Naturally, the democratic and independent order of the Cossacks, in which there was no place for serfdom, did not fit into the system of absolutist feudal-serfdom governing the state of Catherine II, so she wanted to get rid of the Zaporozhye Sich forever.
Even two months before the announcement of Catherine II’s manifesto, the Zaporozhye Sich was attacked by numerous troops of the Russian army under the leadership of General Tekeli, a Hungarian by birth. They had one goal - to destroy and destroy everything around in order to deprive the Cossacks of the possibility of a normal existence. General Tekeli captured all the Zaporozhye elders by deception. Some of them were sent into exile. As for ordinary Cossacks, they were allowed to serve in Cossack regiments.
According to the manifesto, the name “Zaporozhye Cossack” was banned, and the territory of the Zaporozhye Sich itself was annexed to the Azov and Novorossiysk provinces.

Watermelon Day
On August 3, different countries celebrate a delicious holiday - Watermelon Day. The holiday originated in the United States, where it is celebrated as National Watermelon Day. And it’s not surprising, because America ranks first in the number of watermelon eaters. But there are lovers of delicious berries not only in the States. And in Ukraine - practically the birthplace of all watermelons in the world - the holiday not only took root, but became the basis for many summer fairs and festivities.
Watermelon is not only tasty, but also a very healthy delicacy. It contains more than 90% water and only about 6% sugar by weight. Watermelon is an excellent source of vitamin A and contains B complex vitamins, vitamin C and folic acid. Watermelon is one of the leaders in lycopene content, a very strong antioxidant. All this not only helps strengthen the immune system, but also helps the body to maintain normal nervous system function and the formation of red blood cells. In addition, salts of iron, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium contained in watermelon pulp have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the hematopoietic organs, digestion, cardiovascular system, and endocrine glands.
On this day, you can buy a few watermelons at the fair and have a fun picnic in nature. You can even organize competitions. For example, who can spit a watermelon seed the furthest, or a competition for the best figure carved from watermelons.
