We put together a good movie about the gods and everything connected with them: Ancient Greece, Egyptian mythology, titans, demigods, angels, spirits, adventures through the kingdoms of the dead and the living, battles with swords, artifacts, lightning and sheer heroism - these films definitely have no problem with the action.
There won't be many comedies here, but the list of the best films about angels and demons has something to look at and something to laugh at. There are more action films: historical motifs, mythical creatures, other eras - in such films there is only battle on battle.
The Percy Jackson duology (2010-2013, USA)

This is the case when fans scream “The book is better!” meet no resistance: the movie is indeed far from Rick Riordan's universe on paper. But it seems that the director is good, and the actors are not bad, and even the jokes from the original source are on point. And even if all this did not work, the film still reflects the idea in which the ancient Greek gods are still alive: they moved their office to the Empire State Building, quietly rule the world and make children.
How it works in more detail: gods can easily take human form and live an ordinary life. Over the centuries, the love of divine beings has not decreased at all, so most of the pantheon can easily have ten to twenty children from ordinary people. At a certain age, such half-breeds receive a local version of a letter from Hogwarts. You won’t be able to just look at a luxurious castle disguised as picturesque ruins: the half-breeds live in a forest camp, where they are taught to fight with swords, shoot a bow, work in a team and respect their irresponsible parents.
The head of the camp is the centaur Chiron, a strict but understanding teacher. The gods are not limited in their communication with children, but few of them care about their offspring. The restrictions apply only to the three supreme brothers: Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. After analyzing history, the gods came to the conclusion: the children of this trio are too strong and dangerous, so the brothers were forbidden to have contact with earthly women. And the guys tried honestly, but the temptation was stronger. Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon, and being related to the god of the seas gives not only cool skills like superhuman success in swimming and controlling water. Great power means a high probability that the salvation of the world will fall on you.
This is exactly what happens: before Percy gets to camp half-blood, a dusty attic oracle dumps a prophecy on the guy, in which almost nothing is clear, except for one thing - Percy will have to give up a peaceful life with cyclops and naiads in order to solve the problems of his almighty relatives.

Greek mythology is all about family squabbles, compared to which Turgenev’s “Fathers and Sons” are sweet, kind pranks. Zeus, who killed his father, gave birth to dozens of bastards, and some of these abandoned children did not benefit much from their parentage.
The film version of Perseus, who became famous for his ability to get the severed head of Medusa out of his bag in time, suffers from his semi-divine essence: the hero just wants to be human, to love, eat, plow the land and die in poverty. But instead, Perseus has to save people from gods, gods from people, gods from gods, and everyone from a huge kraken. The giant sea creature is one of Uncle Hades' pets, and you never know what to expect from such a relative.
By the way, the villain from Hades was made not by the Greeks themselves, but by modern cinema: in mythology, the king of the underworld did not make much claim to the power of his brother. In Clash of the Titans, the denigration of the unfortunate Hades is not the only deviation from the canon, but in general the quantity and quality of mythological paraphernalia is pleasing to the eye, and the creativity of the screenwriters does not cause mental convulsions. Perseus will obediently suffer, complete increasingly impossible missions, fight the boss and in the end receive a worthy reward.
In fact, there will be no titans in the film, but there will be not the last people on Hollywood Olympus: Liam Neeson (Oskar Schindler, Ra's al Ghul, Qui-Gon Jinn), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort, the main character from The Grand Budapest Hotel ""), Mads Mikkelsen (Dr. Hannibal Lecter), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos "The Onion Knight" Seaworth), Gemma Arterton (girlfriend of Jake Gyllenhaal's version of the Prince of Persia), Nicholas Hoult (blue Beast, friend of Professor X; Jack Who Conquered the Giants) , Natalia Vodianova (not a major Hollywood star, but it’s just funny that one of the most popular and kind Russian supermodels was entrusted with the role of the Gorgon Medusa).
And this entire list of world stars did not save the film from being nominated for the Golden Raspberry as the worst remake of the year. But at Saturn the film was shortlisted for the Best Fantasy Film nomination.

The sequel to the story of Perseus, and this is where the real titans will appear. Ten years have passed since Perseus saved the earth and sky from the chaos and pranks of his gloomy uncle, and the gods again need the help of a hero. Perseus himself still wants to be a simple person: to fish, raise his son like a human being, and die in poverty. But Perseus’s conscience does not allow him to abandon his father to be torn to pieces by his relatives, and the hero nevertheless sets off on another adventure: Tartarus, the Minotaur, the deaths of friends and other bonuses of divine origin.
The cast of the second part was cut down a bit - not all the heroes from “Battle” survived to see “Wrath”. But the resulting holes were also filled with familiar faces: Rosamund Pike (disappeared in Gone Girl, Jane Bennet from Pride and Prejudice), Bill Nighy (Davy Jones, Rufus Scrimgeour), Lily James (American Natasha Rostova, Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice and zombies").

Hercules is only half a god, but this guy was enough to bring an entire army to its knees.
The life of the great hero of Ancient Greece began with trials: the illegitimate son of Zeus aroused the wrath of Hera, the wife of the supreme god Olympus. Moral standards in those days did not set a high bar for the gods, and Hera, who patronized motherhood, earth and family, without flinching, launched poisonous snakes into the cradle of an innocent baby. In general, the myth could have ended here: a jealous wife is almost Satan - a standard plot for ancient Greek art. But Hercules still inherited some of his strength from his father and strangled the snakes with his chubby little hands. Herpetologists have already started crying, but no one thinks about their feelings. Hercules grew up safely, began to perform feats and kill monsters, but after one of the military corporate events on the occasion of the murder of the Hydra, Hercules made an irreparable mistake and was expelled from Athens in disgrace.
The situation is standard, after New Year's corporate parties people quit their entire offices, but the hero committed a really serious offense, so in addition to his expulsion he also received obsessive nightmares and painful reflection. The ringing of coins helped Hercules drown out the mental pain: the son of Zeus assembled a fighting team and together the guys became the most powerful mercenaries in Greece. And everything would be fine, but the feeling of guilt is a poisonous snake worse than the messengers of Hera, and it is useless to hide from it. On one of the orders, Hercules and his team are training an entire army for a large-scale war, but in order to win it, Hercules will have to surrender to his main enemy - the past.

We've dealt with the sons of Zeus, now we return to the descendants of Poseidon. Theseus is one of the most famous Greek heroes: he killed Procrustes, a thief and sadist who was fond of cutting off the limbs of random travelers; then he met Ariadne and defeated the Minotaur; became a symbol of the statehood of Athens, uniting many separate communities under his rule; descended into the underworld to steal Persephone for a friend; met Hercules when the abduction of Persephone ended in failure; fought with centaurs, hunted the Calydonian boar. This guy sure had a lot to remember as he plummeted down the cliff to his death.
In the film, Theseus grew up as an ordinary village guy and he had many questions for the gods: there are wars, there is famine, there are diseases - and where is justice? The hero was already on the verge of atheism, which greatly frightened his devout mother. But Theseus is not the only one who has complaints against the inhabitants of Olympus: King Hyperion, who lost his wife and child, decided that gods are not needed at all, since instead of helping people they go about their own business. Hyperion's plan was simple and banal - free the titans and they themselves will deal with their descendants.
Maddened by the pain of loss and thirst for revenge, the king walked towards Tartarus, capturing more and more Greek lands in search of the necessary artifact, and on the way of the army was the village of Theseus. Hyperion kills the mother of the great hero, and now the war for Theseus ceases to be alien and stupid. The hero decides to kill Hyperion and free Greece from tyranny, with or without gods. Well, the gods themselves, as always, will pretend for a long time that all this does not concern them.
They weren’t greedy with the casting of this project either: in the role of Zeus you can see Luke Evans (Girion from “The Hobbit”, Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast” with Emma Watson), Mickey Rourke (“Sin City”, “The Expendables”, “9 1/ 2 weeks") played Hyperion, Freida Pinto ("Slumdog Millionaire") played the role of Theseus's girlfriend, and Daniel Sharman (Lorenzo from the second season of "Medicals") played Ares.

The sons are over, the daughters are entering the game. The comic book about Diana, Princess of the Amazons, will tell how the Olympian gods are connected to the First World War. In the Wonder Woman universe, Ares slaughtered all of his brothers and sisters long ago and was able to defeat Zeus himself to rule the earth and Olympus alone. But Ares is strong only when fear, hatred and the desire to kill speak in people. Therefore, the god of war is engaged in inciting wars. Before his death, Zeus managed to give the Amazons the “God Slayer” - a sword with which Ares could be destroyed. This ancient legend becomes real when a German plane crashes near the island of the Amazons, hidden from the rest of the world. Diana saves the pilot from the water, but there is no time to be surprised by the man whom Diana has never seen in her life: after the first plane, others break through to the island. The pain begins, the Amazons, clearly not ready for a confrontation with weapons, are forced to intervene. At the cost of the blood of their sisters, the warriors defeat the Germans, but Trevor (the pilot rescued by Diana) remains their hostage. The man rushes back to the front, and Diana realizes that Ares has returned, and the war is his theatrical production, the final ovation of which can destroy humanity. The Amazon princess leaves with Trevor for the human world; the girl is ready to fight and save the innocent, but she is hardly ready to face human cruelty.
Gal Gadot won the Saturn Award for Best Actress, and the film itself received an award from MTV for Best Fight.

Greece is over, let's move on to Scandinavia. “Wonder Woman” is a character from DC comics, so the film was mostly serious and gloomy, but Thor was invented by Marvel and in Kevin Feige’s cinematic universe, 70 percent of the comedy comes from the God of Thunder trilogy. To be absolutely precise, the third part of “Thor” – “Thor: Ragnarok” – is responsible for the humor; there is at least one joke or reference there every three minutes of the running time. The first part is less funny, but there are no less gods in it.
Thor is the heir of Odin, who in Russian fairy tales would be born the third son. The beauty of the hair is the main advantage of Thor’s head, but the hero hasn’t quite figured out what’s inside yet. The arrogant, self-confident heir loves battles, adrenaline and feasts, and one day almost starts a war because of it. Odin is tired of his son's irresponsibility, and the king of Asgard banishes his first-born to Earth, taking away Thor's favorite toy - Mjolnir, a hammer that generates lightning and thunder. The god of thunder without thunder is a sad sight. But it’s even sadder that Asgard now has no heir, and Thor’s younger brother, Loki, has finally decided to justify his title as the god of deceit and deceit.
The film won the Saturn Award for best costumes.

Bruce Nolan is a whiner and a weakling. A man works on television, at home he is always warmly embraced by a loving girl and greeted with adoration by a stupid dog, viewers love Bruce’s stories for their humor and ease, but Bruce himself loves himself more. His inflated ego does not fit into the framework of a comfortable life, and the hero ruins the life of both himself and those around him.
After losing his job due to an emotional breakdown caused by yet another dissatisfaction and strategic trolling of his colleague, Bruce loudly curses God for all his failures. Well, God just got tired of it: having lured Bruce into his office, the Almighty offers the TV journalist his place and goes on vacation. Bruce immediately found a use for his divine powers: he got his job back, eliminated his competitor, and gave himself a bunch of gifts. But soon a stream of complaints and prayers from all the believers in the area falls on the hero’s head, and now Bruce understands that being God is the hardest job in the world.
In 2007, the film “Evan Almighty” was released - also a comedy, about the same colleague of Bruce who was the first to suffer from the punishment of the new God. Evan, who lost his job on TV, did not lose heart and did not complain much about God - the man quickly found himself in politics and even got into the US Congress. But the Almighty had his own plans for this careerist: Evan would have to exchange his expensive briefcase for a hammer and nails, and his colleagues in suits for forest animals (here the hero clearly came out on top). Now Evan is the new Noah, and the construction of the ark awaits him.

King Leonidas, Jaime Lannister, Black Panther and Captain Barbossa in the scenery of Ancient Egypt - an off-scale level of brutality and heat.
Egyptian mythology unexpectedly mixes here with Hamlet: Set, the god of the red desert, kills his brother Osiris, the god of nature and life (although in the canon Osiris is the king of the underworld and the chief judge of the souls of the dead), and defeats his nephew Horus, the god of the sky . The latter was saved from death by his bride Hathor, the goddess of love. Hathor becomes Set's concubine, Set becomes the supreme ruler of Ancient Egypt, and Horus becomes a nobody and quietly drinks himself to death in his forgotten sanctuary. The new king of Egypt turns out to be not only a fratricide, but also a worthless tyrant ruler: Seth plunges all people into slavery and introduces a fee for crossing into the Kingdom of the Dead.
This is such a tax on death, so that no one worries about pensions. This is how the next divine showdown would have ended, if not for the intervention of mere mortals: the thief Bek and his beloved Zana. The girl sincerely believed in Horus and actually died for the fallen god, and Bek has no choice but to make a deal with the drunken ruler of the sky: Horus brings Zana back to life, and Bek helps Horus regain his powers, taken by Set as a trophy, and power over Egypt . Horus agrees, but does not say that no one is capable of resurrecting the dead - neither on this side nor on that. And where is Ra looking?
In addition to the cheerful crowned family, there will also be the god of wisdom Thoth, the goddess of war Anat, Nephthys - the goddess of birth, death and protection, Isis - responsible for motherhood and femininity (the wife of Osiris), Anubis, who is here responsible for the afterlife, and a couple of other gods , whose functions are unclear and whose powers are enormous. The film has been criticized more than once for simplifying ancient Egyptian mythology, but in general, who is who can be understood.
And the film was so disappointing to critics that it received five Golden Raspberry nominations (including worst film, worst director and worst screenplay). But Alex Proyas was not upset and wrote in response that critics are a dying profession. Why be offended by those who will soon go endlessly offline?

You won't have to get used to new names: there will also be Egyptian gods in this film. Anubis and Bast (goddess of joy, fertility fun and cats) in a flying pyramid over the center of New York decide the fate of Horus, who somehow managed to mess up in this film. All this happens in the year 2095: there are practically no people left on Earth, thanks to genetic engineering, the majority of the population lives on transplanted organs, and the city is actually ruled by the Eugenics Corporation - a grandiose monopoly of the new world, which is engaged in improving people as a biological species. The guys from Eugenics are so powerful that they even defeated the aliens, who are now adjacent to the human mutants and are preparing to deal with the floating pyramid, but are suddenly distracted by a strange girl. Jill has blue hair, blue eyes, strange abilities, complete amnesia, and is clearly not human in her family tree. The heroine ends up in the Eugenics laboratory in the next batch of experimental subjects: poor fellows are collected in batches from the streets and experiments are carried out on them.
A powerful dystopia with a bias towards biopunk and ancient Greek mythology—thought that was all? No, there is also a shark man, air cars like in “The Fifth Element”, “Invasion Zone”, where there is always snow and cold and when approaching which people die; a mysterious maniac about whom even in Eugenics they cannot find out anything; and space prisons, from which cryo-coffins with non-GMO people began to fall out. And all this cool trash is animated, but with live actors on the main characters. That's it.

Only personal belongings and items remained: clothing, glasses, contact lenses, wigs, hearing aids, dental fillings, jewelry, shoes, even pacemakers and surgical pins.
Some said that the Earth had been invaded by beings from other worlds, others claimed that the disappearances were the result of an attack by enemy forces. However, this phenomenon has affected all countries of the earth without exception...
