Ayat al-Kursi (Arabic - verse of the Throne) - 255th verse of Surah Al-Bakara (The Cow). The verse is named so because it mentions the word Kursi (Throne), which personifies the power and absolute authority of Allah over creation. This verse is the most famous verse of the Holy Quran.
Whoever recites verse al-Kursi after the obligatory prayer will be protected until the next obligatory prayer. Whoever reads the verse of al-Kursi in the morning will be safe until the evening, and whoever reads it in the evening will be safe until the morning. It is recommended to read verse al-Kursi and surahs 112, 113 and 114 before going to bed.
Text of Ayatul-Kursi:

Meaning:
“Allah - there is no god but Him, and only He should we worship. Allah is Alive, Existing and preserves the existence of all people. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overwhelms him; He alone owns what is in the heavens and on earth; and He has no equal. Who will intercede for another before Him without His permission? Allah - glory to Him Almighty! - knows everything that has happened and what will happen. No one can comprehend anything from His wisdom and knowledge except what He allows. The Throne of Allah, His knowledge and His power are greater than the heavens and the earth, and His protection of them does not burden Him. Verily, He is the Most High, the One and the Great!” (tafsir “al-Muntakhab”).

About the merits of “Ayatul Kursiy”
Dear brothers and sisters! Dear believers!
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
Peace be upon you, the mercy of Allah and His blessings!
Today in my sermon I want to tell you about the merits of verse 255 of Surah al-Baqarah “The Cow” - “Ayatul Kursiy”.
The life of any Muslim is closely connected with the Holy Quran, for the Book of Allah serves as a guide for us throughout our lives. Maybe not all believers can read “mushaf” correctly, but most Muslims know a small number of short surahs and verses by heart, including “Ayatul Kursiy”.
The Holy Quran serves as a source of good deeds, protection and healing for us!
Many hadiths of the blessed Prophet Muhammad (alayhis salaam) report the majestic status of this verse. Once the Messenger (alayhis salam) asked one of the companions: “Oh, Abu al-Mundhir, do you know which verse from the Book of Allah is the most important for you?” He replied: “Allah and His Messenger know best!” He asked again: “Oh, Abu al-Mundhir, do you know which verse from the Book of Allah is the most important for you?” Then he answered (read the beginning of Ayatul Kursiy): {Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Living, the Ever-Existing}. After which (the Prophet) said: “I swear by Allah, may knowledge make your life easier, Abu al-Mundhir” (Ahmed).
Someone may ask: why is this verse the most important? There is not just one verse in the Holy Quran, but there are thousands of others? The fact is that the Almighty in “Ayatul Kursiy” informs us about His majestic attributes and qualities, reminds us of the importance of “tawhid” - monotheism:
“Allah - there is no god but Him, the Living, the Sustainer of life. Neither drowsiness nor sleep takes possession of him. To Him belongs what is in heaven and what is on earth. Who will intercede before Him without His permission? He knows their future and past. They comprehend from His knowledge only what He wills. His Throne embraces the heavens and
earth, and it does not burden Him to protect them. He is the Exalted, the Great."
(Surah “Cow”, verse 255)
This short verse contains eternal truths that will not lose their significance until the End of the World.
At the beginning of the verse, the Merciful speaks about the importance of Monotheism. God exists, He is alive and One. From the verse we can understand that no one is worthy of worship except Allah; whoever worships another god commits a mortal sin!
“Whoever associates partners with Allah commits a great sin.” (Surah An-Nisa 48)
The one who associates partners with the One Creator will be at a loss; God will turn all his good deeds into dust!
“If you begin to associate partners (with Allah), then your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be one of the losers.” (Surah “Crowds” verse 65)
Whoever refuses to become a monotheist will never go to Heaven!
“Verily, whoever associates partners with Allah, He has forbidden Paradise. Hell will be his refuge." (Surah “Meal” verse 72)
The Almighty in the Koran informed us about His names and qualities with which we call and turn to Him!
Our Allah created, He gave us life, health, all the blessings on Earth, so we are obliged to worship and love Him. You cannot attribute unacceptable and offensive qualities to Allah. If a person, due to his illiteracy, believed that there is no God in the world, then “Ayatul Kursiy” says the opposite - God exists! Relying on their own minds, some portray God as a gray-haired old man, which is unacceptable in Islam! God does not age, time does not affect Him, it is you and I who are gradually growing old, losing our health and turning into feeble old people.
“Ayatul Kursiy” again refutes false stereotypes about Allah: “Neither drowsiness nor sleep takes possession of Him!” Why do people sleep? Because the human body constantly needs rest, and we have a direct dependence on the time of day. During the day people are awake and work, at night they sleep and rest. Man is a weak creature, hard work tires us, even sometimes the weather and magnetic storms provoke headaches and migraines. During sleep, a person loses control over himself, he seems to die and becomes defenseless. It is not appropriate to attribute such low qualities to the Almighty!
How to correctly understand the words in the verse: “To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on earth”?
The entire cosmos, the entire universe and everything that inhabits the universe from among the angels, genies, people, animals and microorganisms belong to God, for He created them and gave them life. Believe me, our houses, apartments, money and other worldly wealth also belong to the One God; He simply tested us and gave us the opportunity to temporarily use His benefits. People in need may come to us and ask for money for food. We help them from the funds that Allah has given us; it is wrong to say with the words: “I am helping you from my own pocket.” Even your pocket belongs to God. In worldly life, we are all guests. Sooner or later it will be necessary to return home, to the akhirat. The Prophet (alaihis salaam) taught:
Live in this world as a stranger or (accidentally wandering) traveler. (Bukhari)
Nowadays, people have deeply taken root in earthly life and have forgotten about the other world, have forgotten about return, about Reckoning and meeting with the Almighty. People forgot about their first parents, Adam and Chava, their first home was in Paradise, and for sin they were expelled from there to Earth.
In the verse, the Lord asks the question: “Who will intercede before Him without His permission?”
Here we are talking about a difficult, difficult Day of Judgment. Sinners and unbelievers will be in a difficult situation on that Day. On the one hand, they may have occupied high positions in society and the state in worldly life, and had untold wealth. But nothing and no one will help them, because they sinned, did not believe in God and committed bloodshed. The Almighty says:
(37) The Lord of heaven and earth and that which is between them, the Merciful, with whom they dare not even speak. (38) On the day when the Spirit (Jibril) and the angels stand in rows, no one will speak except those whom the Merciful allows, and they will speak the truth. (39) This will be a true day, and whoever wishes will find a way to return to his Lord. (40) We warned you against punishing your loved ones. In that
One day a man will see what his hands have prepared, and the unbeliever will say: “It would be better for me to be dust!” (Surah “Message”, verses 37-40)
Many, out of fear, will pray to the Lord to turn them into dust! On that Day, no one will escape punishment and everyone will receive what they deserve.
By the mercy of Allah, on the Day of Judgment, the Prophet Muhammad (alaihis-salam) will be allowed to intercede for people, as evidenced by the hadith in the collection of Imam Muslim:
“And they will come to me and say: “Muhammad, you are the messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets. Allah has forgiven you all your previous sins. Intercede for us before your Lord, don’t you see what situation we are in.” And I will go and find myself under the throne, bowing in prayer before the Lord
mine. Then Allah will reveal to me from His mercy and His glory what He has not revealed to anyone before me. And he will say: “Muhammad, raise your head. Ask, it will be given. Intercede, your intercession will be accepted.” And I will raise my head and say: “My community, O Lord! My community, oh Lord!” And it will be said: “Muhammad, bring those from your community who have no account through the right door of Paradise, and they will help other people enter through the other doors. I swear by the One in whose hand my soul is that there is a distance between the doors of heaven as between Mecca and Hajar or as between Mecca and Bosra.” (Muslim)
Further, the Almighty in “Ayatul Kursiy” reveals the great truth that the ignorant are trying to hide: “He knows their future and past.”
The future always worries people; they are not sure about the future, they are afraid of losing their job, getting sick and making mistakes in life. Fear of an unknown future pushes some to sins; they turn to psychics and other fortune-tellers. The show “Battle of Psychics” is shown on television. There is an artificially created excitement in the world around the end of the world, and everywhere they talk about 2012, scientists are discussing the predictions of the “Mayan” people. What is this?
The Lord in “Ayatul Kursiy” reveals the truth and says that no one except Him is able to predict the future and delve into the past. There are things, and they are subject only to the will of Allah. Only the Creator knows the future and the past. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to predict the future is simply lying.
Not only our future is in the hands of Allah, but also our health, mind, and reason. A person is able to comprehend knowledge only by the will of the Lord, as stated in Ayatul Kursi: “They comprehend from His knowledge only what He wishes.”
We live in an age of scientific discoveries and modern technology. It’s interesting how many decades people have been struggling to prove the existence of “black matter” or, as it is commonly called, “antimatter.” Institutes, laboratories and the Large Hadron Collider were built at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars. Until now, thousands of scientists are not able to answer many questions. Yes, we need to learn, we need to try, our religion commands us to gain knowledge, but we learn only when the Lord desires it: “But you will not desire unless Allah desires; verily, Allah is wise and knowledgeable!” (Surah “Man”, verse 30)
“Ayatul Kursiy” is a good remedy for the evil of the jinn. Jinns are afraid of those who recite this verse.
Ubay ibn Kagba, a companion of the Prophet, personally met the genie and asked him the question: “What protects us from you?” The genie replied: “Ayatul Kursi from Surah al-Baqarah.” Whoever reads this verse in the morning will be protected from us until the evening, and whoever reads it in the evening will be protected from us until the morning.” When dawn broke, Ubay came to the prophet (alaihis-salam) and told him everything, to which the Messenger of Allah (alaihis-salam) replied: “He spoke the truth, even though he is bad! (Ibn Hibban, sahih).
The one who sincerely read “Ayatul Kursi” will be in Paradise, the Prophet (alaihis salaam) said: “Whoever reads the verse “Al-Kursi” after every prayer will not be prohibited from entering Paradise as soon as he dies.” (Baikhaky)
Dear believers!
Much more can be said about this great verse.
I pray to Allah that we conform to the Holy Quran and fulfill its injunctions!
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
Peace be upon you, the mercy of Allah and His blessings!

“Once the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me: “O Abul-Munzir, do you know which verse from the Book of Allah is the greatest?” I replied: “This is a verse that says: “Allah - there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Living, the Eternal...” (Ayatul-Kursi).” After this, the Prophet ﷺ slapped me on the chest and said: “May you be happy in knowledge, O Abul-Munzir!” (Imam Muslim).

Hadith about Ayatul-Kursi No. 4
It is reported that one day, when Abu Huraira ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ was guarding the collected zakat, he caught a thief who asked him: “Let me go, and I will teach you such words that Allah will make useful for you!” Abu Hurayrah ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ asked: “What are these words?” He said: “When you go to bed, read Ayatul-Kursi from beginning to end, and a guardian from Allah will always be with you, and Satan will not be able to approach you until the morning!” After this, Abu Huraira ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ told the Prophet ﷺ about this, and he said: “He really told you the truth, despite the fact that he is a notorious liar!” After which the Messenger of God ﷺ informed Abu Hurayrah ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ that it was the Shaitan himself in the form of a man (Imam al-Bukhari).

Hadith about Ayatul-Kursi No. 9
From Ubayy ibn Ka'b ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ it is reported that one day his supplies of dates were decreasing, and one night he decided to guard them. Then he saw someone like an adult youth, with whom he greeted and asked: “Who are you, a genie or a man?!” He replied: “Gin.” Ubay said: “Extend your hand to me.” When he extended his hand to him, he found that his hand was like the paw of a dog with dog hair. Ubay asked: “Is this how genies were created?!” He said: “The genies know that there is no one among them stronger than me.” Ubay ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ asked: “What brought you?” He said: “We heard that you like to make sadaka, so we came to take some food from you.” Ubay ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ asked: “What protects us from you?” The genie replied: “Ayatul-Kursi from Surah al-Baqarah.” Whoever reads this verse in the morning will be protected from us until the evening, and whoever reads it in the evening will be protected from us until the morning.” When dawn broke, Ubay ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him everything, to which the Messenger of the Lord ﷺ replied: “He spoke the truth, even though he is bad!” (Imams at-Tabarani, an-Nasai, Ibn Hibban).

Ayatul-Kursi can be read before communicating with a stern boss. For blessings and peace of mind, it is advisable to read suras No. 109, 110, 112, 113, 114 before going to bed. One of the caliphs Ali (r.a) said:
“I cannot understand those Muslims who do not read Ayatul-Kursi before going to bed. If you only knew how great this verse is, you would never neglect to read this verse, because it was given to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) from the treasuries of Al-Arsh. Ayatul-Kursi was not revealed to any of the prophets before the Prophet Muhammad. And I never go to bed without first reading Ayatul-Kursi.”
Hadith about Ayatul-Kursi No. 10
Ibn Mas'ud ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ said:
“Once one of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ met a man from among the jinn. They began to fight and the man won. Jin told him, “Let’s do it again!” But the man defeated him again. Then the man said: “Verily, I see that you are weak, and your wrists are like the wrists of a dog. Is this what you look like, O gin community? Or is it just you? He replied: “No, by Allah, I have power among them! But let’s fight again, and if you defeat me, then I will teach you something that will benefit you.” They began to fight again and the man won again. Then the genie said: “I will teach you what I promised. Do you read Ayatul-Kursi? He answered: “Yes.” The genie said: “Truly, if you read this verse when you go home, then the Shaitan will definitely come out of there and will not return there until the morning.” He who heard this story from Ibn Mas'ud ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ asked him: “O Abu 'Abdur-Rahman, who was that person from among the Companions? Isn't it 'Umar? To which Ibn Mas'ud ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ said: “And who could be him besides 'Umar ﺮﻀﻲﷲﻋﻨﻪ?!” (Ibn Abi ad-Dunya, al-Bayhaqi).

Etymology
Not all verses of the Qur'an have their own names, but this verse was given the name "Ayat al-Kursi" (lit. "verse of the Throne"). Word Kursi
differs from the word Arsh (throne) mentioned in several verses of the Quran[3]. According to the Prophet Muhammad, “Kursi, compared to Arsh, is nothing more than a ring thrown out in the desert.” According to some Islamic theologians, Kursi is located in front of Arsha. According to at-Tabari, Sufyan al-Thawri and other interpreters, Kursi means “Knowledge of Allah.” Muslims believe that verse al-Kursi can be read so that Allah protects and secures a person. Muslims usually read this verse before going to bed.
