How to make a “bank transfer” to the next world to help the soul of a loved one

The death of a loved one is always a great grief and pain, which only dulls a little over time. But when we talk about the passing of a mother or father, it is doubly difficult to recover from this misfortune. Moreover, according to Orthodox canons, after death the connection between children and parents does not stop. The Lord can always ask the mother for the foolish child left on earth. And the child, in turn, is not released from the obligation to pray for his deceased parents. These prayers, read on special days, can even save a soul from imminent entry into hell.

The clergy claim that a person who so diligently begs for the souls of his loved ones also receives a blessing from God and after death goes to heaven. Therefore, a prayer for a deceased mother from a daughter or son will bring spiritual benefits to both parties. However, not everyone knows how to correctly ask for their loved ones before the Almighty. Today we will tell you what prayers you need to read about your deceased mother in different periods since the day of death. Keep in mind that in a similar way you can beg for the soul of a deceased father or other loved ones.

What happens to the soul after death?

According to Orthodox canons, each prayer of children for their deceased mother should be said at its own time. This or that text has meaning on certain days after death, so it is necessary to clearly understand what exactly happens to the soul of the deceased after the transition to another world. Orthodox priests advise loved ones never to grieve for their deceased parents. After all, death is not the end, but just a transition to another state. And in it the soul will not experience pain and suffering, especially if during life the person was a sincere believer and revered the laws of God above all else. Even the most sinless soul, according to the relatives of the deceased, has its own sins, and therefore it will face the temptations of demons and the judgment of the Almighty.

Have you ever wondered where the rules for remembering loved ones on the third, ninth and fortieth day after death come from? Many Orthodox Christians do not understand the significance of these days for the departed soul. Some perform the commemoration according to the rules, while others believe that it is not too important. However, we must not forget that it is on these days that a strong prayer for the deceased mother or father is very necessary for them, because at such moments it is decided where exactly the soul will be destined.

Keep in mind that in the first few days after death, demons tempt the soul and try to take it to hell. However, a fervent prayer for the deceased mother, read by children, can help the soul cope with all temptations and stand before the judgment of God.

Do not forget that this court can be called private. It decides where the soul will be directed before the Last Judgment. If she is found sinless and admitted to heaven, then this decision will not be revised in the future. But in the case when the sins turn out to be too strong, and the soul is destined for hell, only a prayer for the deceased mother, read regularly and with a pure heart, can become the basis for revising the decision on the day of the Last Judgment, when the fate of everyone now living will be considered and when -or a person living on earth.

Since the soul itself can no longer ask for itself and repent of what it did during life, it is the children who, with their prayer for the repose of the soul of the deceased mother, can save her from eternal torment in hell. Church ministers always clarify that even one moment in hell cannot be compared with all the suffering on earth. Therefore, it is worth always remembering your deceased relatives and working spiritually to help them find peace in the best of all worlds.

Prayer for forgiveness of sins for aborted children

Abortion is considered a terrible sin and a woman needs to pray for it for a long time. A prayer for forgiveness for the murder of an unborn baby is read for 40 days. It is important not to miss a single day. Before starting to pray, it is recommended to visit the temple, confess and repent before the priest. Prayer words should be said in front of the icon of the Mother of God and Savior. Sincere prayer will definitely be heard and God will remove your sin.

The prayer text reads as follows:

“Our Lord, Savior of the human race Jesus Christ! I ask You to hear my prayer and have mercy on me, Your sinful servant (my own name). Let me atone for my sins for the lives of unborn babies I ruined. I turn to Saint John the Baptist with a prayer, I ask you to baptize my children killed in my womb, not to leave them in darkness and to call them the names of the lambs of God, and then bring them into the Kingdom of God. I ask you to hear my prayer to Saint Barbara of the Great Martyrs and to commune the babies killed in my womb. Almighty Lord, do not leave me with my sin, deliver me, a mother who killed her children in her womb, from eternal torment, give me strength to bear the answer before the throne of the Lord. Lord, accept my sincere prayer of repentance, as I sincerely repent of my sin. I believe in Your goodness and mercy, Lord, and glorify all Your deeds. Amen".

The first forty days after death: what does the soul do during this time?

Prayer for a deceased mother is especially important forty days after her death. It is not for nothing that this period is defined as a certain milestone, after which it is practically impossible to change anything.

  • In Orthodoxy, it is generally accepted that after the soul leaves the body, it remains on earth for another two days. She is met by two angels: a guardian and a guide. They will accompany the soul in the first days after death. The soul can spend them next to its loved ones, visit the most memorable places or those that it never had time to visit during its lifetime. This time can be called farewell to your earthly existence.
  • The third day is considered one of the most difficult. Angels must lead the soul to the Creator, but along the way demons begin to tempt it. They strive in every possible way to take her to hell, recalling all the sins committed during her earthly journey. It is very difficult to overcome temptation, but a prayer for a deceased mother can become a beacon that will guide and help the soul.
  • Over the next six days, the deceased remains in paradise, he gets acquainted with everything that is there, resting before the judgment that every soul fears.
  • The ninth day is dedicated to communication with God, after which the disembodied spirit goes to hell. There he remains until the fortieth day, after which the trial itself takes place. On this day the soul receives its verdict until the Last Judgment.

From all of the above, it becomes clear why in the first days after death, children should actively pray for the departed parent in order to help him overcome all trials.

A very strong prayer to the Creator for forgiveness and help

There are several powerful, focused prayers to the Lord. They need to be used in specific cases. It is very important to offer such prayers in front of the icon of the Savior.

Prayer for forgiveness of those who have offended us

In order to cleanse the soul of negativity, you need to offer a prayer for forgiveness of people who have caused offense. This will allow you to let go of the situation and successfully move towards your goal. The peculiarities of reading such a prayer are that it should be close in essence to meditation. It is necessary to retire to a separate room, install an icon of the Savior, light a church candle in front of it and take a comfortable position.

The text of the prayer reads as follows:

“Lord Almighty and All-Just, I swear before Your icon that I forgive everyone who has offended me in this life and let them go in peace. I cleanse my soul with the forgiveness of everything and ask forgiveness from those people whom I have voluntarily or unwittingly offended. Forgive me, and I forgive everyone... (repeat three times). Lord God, I accept myself as I am and love myself, since I am part of the world created by You. I forgive everyone and ask for forgiveness, and I become free. I love the world of the Great Creator, I feel like a ray of light in it. Lord, accept my repentance for my voluntary or involuntary sins. My heart is open, my thoughts are pure, my soul is filled with sincere faith, and my prayer words glorify You, the Great and Mighty. I ask You, Lord, to accept me as a part of yourself and guide my thoughts and actions. Amen".

Prayer for forgiveness of a child

Parents very often offer prayers for the forgiveness of their children. This allows you to cleanse the aura of your children.

This mother’s prayer is considered the most powerful:

“Almighty Lord, You are the source of mercy for all people. You give us living sinners goodness and hope. I, God’s servant (my own name), thank You for the feeling of motherhood You have given me. You, the Almighty, gave life to my children and overshadowed them with the holy cross so that they would walk a righteous path through life. I ask you to forgive my children for the sins that they have committed or will commit in their lives. I ask You to preserve and protect my children from devilish temptations, so that they do not have to bear God’s punishment for their sins. Grant, Lord, your mercy to them until the end of their days. Help me, Great Lover of Humanity, in their upbringing. Let me raise them in the fear of God and teach them to live according to Your commandments. Place in their souls sincere love, true faith and aversion to lawlessness. Don't let them suffer from slander and slander. Fill their hearts with chastity and honesty. Forgive all their sins and give them a life filled with joy, virtues and happiness. Remove all abomination from around them, but if they turn away from the right path, then do not abandon them and do not turn away from them. Let them sincerely repent of their sins and forgive them their sins, thereby giving them hope for eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen".

Prayer for forgiveness of enemies

If you know your enemies, then you must definitely read a prayer for their forgiveness. This will protect your soul from the influence of negative energy. In addition, such a prayer will push your enemies onto the right path and there is a very high probability that your hostility will soon cease.

One powerful prayer goes like this:

“I, the Servant of God (my own name), turn with a prayer to You, Great Lover of Mankind, Lord God, Son of God. You control our destinies with your will and help us take the right path. You protect us from all troubles and devilish temptations. You command us to love our enemies and forgive them. You tell us to do good for those who hate us. You talk about the need to forgive those who wish us harm. You advise us to bless those who curse us and create various misfortunes for us. You, the Merciful Savior of the human race, being crucified on the cross, forgave your enemies and prayed for your tormentors. You showed us an example and showed us how we can cleanse our souls of sins. You taught by your actions to forgive our enemies, so we offer you a sincere prayer for those who are trying to harm or have already done harm. I have no anger in my soul against my enemies, so forgive them too, Great Lover of Humanity. Forgive, Lord, all those who repented of their sins directed at me and those with whom I did not reconcile before You. I ask for the forgiveness of the servant of God (name of the enemy) and your granting forgiveness of his sins, so that he does not lose hope of eternal life in Your Kingdom. Guide him on the righteous path so that God’s punishment does not threaten him. Amen".

This prayer must be offered to the Lord in solitude before the icon of the Savior. Also, be sure to visit a temple after it, where you can light a candle for the health of your enemy.

Church rites that must be performed over the body of the deceased

If death comes to your family, then, of course, it is very difficult to remain reasonable and remember all the rituals. However, it is the children who, in the event of the death of one of their parents, are responsible for observing all rituals. Therefore, this issue must be taken very seriously. Moreover, all church rituals are not too difficult for grief-stricken loved ones.

At the very moment when the soul departs from the body, it is necessary to read “Succession”. This is not one prayer, but a whole set of prayers and songs. They help the deceased to completely separate from the body and say goodbye to his earthly existence. Next, you need to read the Psalter and order several funeral services in the temple. We'll talk about them a little later.

On the third day after the death of the deceased, a funeral service is held in the temple. To do this, the coffin with the body is brought to the church, where the priest performs the necessary prayers. After the burial, all relatives and friends must remember the deceased. Also, the funeral meal is repeated on the ninth and fortieth day after death.

How to pray for a deceased mother?

Grief always comes unexpectedly, which is why it is so difficult to think sensibly at these moments. A prayer for a deceased mother does not require special preparations, however, when reading it, certain rules must be followed:

  • You should not pray in a state of deep despondency, try to renounce your grief a little and turn to the Creator without grief and with a pure heart. If turning to God is accompanied by tears, then such prayer will become a heavy burden for the soul in the afterlife. It will not bring joy and will not support you in the upcoming trials.
  • Of course, it is worth ordering special prayers in the temple, but they should only complement the words that the child will say for his departed mother in the silence of the house. Only such prayers have real power and value in the eyes of God. They must be read at any icon and with a lit church candle. However, if there are no icons and candles in the house, then you can pray without them. The main thing is that the words are spoken with love.
  • Of course, prayer alone will not help your deceased mother find peace. Therefore, it is necessary to ask God for her on the days of remembrance and at any other time, because prayer for the deceased mother after forty days is no less important than before the expiration of this period. It is believed that daily appeal to the Creator will help the soul to cleanse itself of sins and find peace in heaven.

How to read prayers for the repose?

Prayers help the soul go through the afterlife ordeals and be cleansed of sinfulness. They also give relief to the reader himself . Words addressed to God allow us to come to terms with loss and get rid of the heavy burden of grief.

Immediately after the death of the mother, you need to order a magpie for the repose . This ritual lasts from the day of repose for 40 days . If desired, the commemoration can be ordered again as soon as the reported days are over.

How to cope with the death of a loved one

Another way to show concern for the soul of a loved one is to read the Psalter. It is necessary to read one kathisma per day for 40 days after the repose of the parent . There are also separate prayers that are read at home, which do not require special sacraments and rituals.

How to read the Psalter

Prayers cannot be read in a state of grief. Priests do not recommend crying, since the suffering of a daughter or son will place a heavy burden on the mother’s soul. You can turn to the Lord at the icon with a lit candle . Try to put all your love for your mother into your spoken words , as well as gratitude for the care she gave you .

Light a symbolic candle while you read the prayer.

If in doubt, seek advice from the priest . He will tell you at what time of the day it is better to pronounce sacred words: include them in the morning or evening address to the Lord.

The Russian Orthodox Church opposes any occult practices of summoning the spirit of the dead.

What prayers to read for your deceased mother: Sorokoust

It is customary to order forty liturgies in the church immediately after the death of a person. Moreover, this can be done simultaneously in several churches, it is acceptable if they are located in different cities or even countries. Sorokoust represents prayers of remembrance that the priest reads at the liturgy. This happens for forty days until the soul comes to the judgment of God and receives its determination.

According to the Orthodox canons, a forty-day commemoration during the service helps the soul pass tests more easily and be cleansed of its lifetime sins, which it did not have time to repent of. It is believed that after the first three liturgies served for the deceased, the angels turn to the Almighty with requests to follow the soul to hell in order to ease its torment. In the following liturgies they ask for the communion of the newly presented soul.

Over the course of ten dinners, the angels ask the Creator for the opportunity to bring the deceased to the gates of hell. Until the twentieth service, the soul is in hell and only then receives permission to leave there. Angels accompany her everywhere and in the following days dress the disembodied spirit in white robes, return him to his usual appearance and introduce him to paradise with the blessing of the Creator. This is why it is so important to offer prayers for the deceased mother for up to 40 days in church and at home.

A very strong prayer for mom’s health

Of course, the most popular are prayers for the health of the mother. It is believed that loving children should read a prayer for their mother’s health every day. This can be done during the morning or evening rule. A sincerely read Orthodox prayer always improves the mood and puts a loved one in a positive mood, so that in difficult periods of life, a prayer appeal will become an effective support in the fight against a serious illness.

Prayer to Matrona of Moscow for mother’s health

A prayer for the health of the mother, directed to the Blessed Elder Matrona of Moscow, is very effective if a loved one is very sick. But before offering prayer, you need to visit the temple, submit a note about your mother’s health and light three candles near the icons of the Savior, the Great Martyr, Panteleimon the Healer, and the Blessed Matrona of Moscow.

After this, you should pray in front of the icon of the Blessed Elder with the following words:

“Blessed Matrona, hear the sincere prayer of the servant of God (her own name) turning to you for help. I ask you to pray before the Most High, All-Merciful God and ask the Almighty to forgive my mother all voluntary and involuntary sins, so that he does not punish her for her rash actions, committed out of ignorance with terrible diseases. Amen".

Afterwards, you should cross yourself, take some holy water, purchase icons of the above-mentioned Saints, church candles and leave the temple. Arriving home, you need to repeat the request. To do this, you definitely need to retire to a separate room, where you install the image of the Matrona of Moscow, light 3 church candles, place the image with the Saints next to it, put a bowl of sacred water and start reading the prayer.

The prayer request should sound like this:

“Blessed Elder, Holy Matrona of Moscow. I, the servant of God, with spiritual sorrow, turn to you with deep prayer. Heal my mother from this terrible disease. Ask the Most High Merciful Lord for forgiveness of her voluntary and involuntary sins. Let him not torment her with severe trials. Let the disease go away and all the wounds heal. Let her soul stop suffering from unbearable pain. I trust in you, Holy Elder, Matrona of Moscow, I ask you to grant my mother blessed health. I accept the will of God and glorify His Name in my prayers. Amen".

Prayer for mother's recovery in her hour of illness

In an hour of serious illness, a very strong short prayer to the Lord God, a prayer that must be read several times a day, can speed up the mother’s recovery.

It sounds like this:

Prayer for mother's health to Nicholas the Wonderworker

Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker will definitely hear a prayer for the health of the mother of her daughter or son. It is imperative to pray to this Saint in front of his icon, but this can be done both in church and at home.

When praying for your mother’s health, consider the following:

  • First, you should clear your thoughts of extraneous thoughts and abandon everyday problems.
  • Then you need to ask the Saint to intercede with the Lord God for forgiveness of your own sins, known and unknown.

After this, you can offer the following prayer words to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker:

“O All-Holy Nicholas, exceeding saint of the Lord, our helper, our intercessor in sorrow, hear the prayer of the servant of God (proper name). Pray to the Almighty Lord for the health of my mother, God’s servant (mother’s name). Bless her for a happy life and ask the Lord to grant her longevity without illness or disease. Deliver my loved one from mental ordeals and support me in difficult periods of life, for you have never refused to help people who turn to you. I glorify your deeds in my prayers and accept your will.”

What prayer to read at home?

Prayer for the deceased mother should be daily for up to 9 days. It is best to read the following text, which we present in full without abbreviations.

The same prayer must be said on all days of commemoration of the deceased mother. This is usually done on the ninth and fortieth day. In the future, the deceased is remembered on specially designated church holidays and on the anniversary of death.

On such days, you need to come to the grave of your loved ones and read a prayer there or at home if you cannot get to the cemetery.

Prayer for unbaptized and stillborn babies

Prayer for unbaptized infants from the Synodikon of His Eminence Gregory, Metropolitan of Novgorod and St. Petersburg:

“Remember, O Lord who loves mankind, the souls of Your departed servants, the babies who in the womb of their Orthodox mothers died accidentally from unknown actions, or from a difficult birth, or from some carelessness; baptize them, O Lord, in the sea of Your bounties, and save them with Your ineffable goodness.”

Mother's prayer for stillborn and unbaptized children given by Hieromonk Arseny of Athos:

“Lord, have mercy on my children who died in my womb! For my faith and tears, for the sake of Thy mercy, Lord, do not deprive them of Thy Divine light!”

Prayer for the deceased mother up to 40 days

In addition to what we have already said, those especially close to the deceased should read the Psalter. This is done at the same time by agreement, thus the power of prayer increases significantly. Until forty days, it is very important to constantly ask the Lord for forgiveness of the sins of the deceased. This can be done using the text below.

Priests also advise keeping a special book where the names of all close relatives who are no longer alive will be written down. This will help you remember them at any time and turn to the Lord in prayer. You can pronounce it at the behest of your soul, regardless of your location, since it is quite simple and easy to remember.

If necessary, you can read another prayer presented above. Clergymen often call it one of the first when they advise children to ask for their deceased parents.

Prayer of John Krestyankin for forgiveness of ancestral sins (of a kind)

The main purpose of praying to the Lord for the forgiveness of one’s sins is to save the human soul. Its strength lies in the fact that with its help one-on-one communication with God occurs. This means that you need to ascend it in complete solitude and absolutely sincerely.

The basic rules for such prayer are as follows:

  • Before offering prayer, you need to realize everything that you have done wrong in life. It is important to awaken in your soul a desire for sincere repentance for your misdeeds. You need to voice in your own words what you did, violating the commandments of God and ask for forgiveness for this.
  • Before reading the prayer for forgiveness, it is recommended to visit the temple and confess.

The prayer text reads as follows:

“Lord Merciful, Most High and Mighty, Lord God, punishing generations for unrepentant sins up to the third and fourth generation. I ask you to have mercy on my entire family, all my living relatives and all my deceased relatives. Forgive my family for the sins of those who committed apostasy, trampled on the Council oath and violated spiritual fidelity to their Lord. Forgive my family for the sins of those who participated in the destruction of the royal family and the desecration of church shrines. Forgive my family for the sins of all those who welcomed idolatry and participated in godless events and rituals. Grant forgiveness to my family for all the suicides, blasphemy and abortions committed in it, as well as for all other terrible sins: blasphemy, witchcraft, defilement and lawlessness. Do not leave us, Lord Almighty, without your support, do not let my family, All-Merciful God, perish in sins, do not weaken our family, guide us to the true path and give us hope for the Kingdom of Heaven. I pray to You, Great Lover of Humanity, to remove the curse from my family for all terrible sins. Blessed are Thy deeds and Thy will. Amen".

When to remember the dead?

Of course, no one can forbid us to remember our parents who have left this world. But the Orthodox Church sets aside several days on which this must be done without fail. On such dates, loving children always remember their relatives in church and at the grave in the cemetery. Naturally, the first such day is the anniversary of death. After 40 days, prayer for a deceased mother or father should not be as intense as before. There is no point in counting any other dates; the Orthodox Church does not support this.

Another date when we all remember not only our deceased parents, but also other people who are no longer with us is Radonitsa. This holiday does not have a specific date. It is associated with Easter and is counted from the Holy Resurrection.

In addition to these days, Orthodoxy sets aside several more Saturdays when it is customary to remember one’s deceased loved ones. There are actually not many of them, so these days are quite easy to remember:

  • Meat Saturday (before Maslenitsa).
  • Saturdays of Great Lent (second, third, fourth).
  • Before Pentecost.

If your mother was involved in military service, which is not uncommon in the modern world, then she must be remembered on the ninth of May and on the Saturday before the eighth of November.

Prayers of parents for deceased children

Prayer for a deceased daughter

“Lord Jesus Christ, our God, Lord of life and death, Comforter of the afflicted! With a contrite and tender heart I run to You and pray to You: remember. Lord, in Thy Kingdom the deceased Thy servant, my child (name), and create for her eternal memory. You, Lord of life and death, have given me this child. It was your good and wise will to take it away from me.

Blessed be Thy name, O Lord. I pray to You, Judge of heaven and earth, with Your endless love for us sinners, forgive my deceased child all his sins, voluntary and involuntary, in word, in deed, in knowledge and ignorance. Forgive, O Merciful One, our parental sins as well, so that they may not remain on our children: we know that we have sinned many times before You, many of whom we have not observed, and have not done, as You commanded us.

If our deceased child, ours or his own, for the sake of guilt, lived in this life, working for the world and his flesh, and not more than You, the Lord and his God: if you loved the delights of this world, and not more than Your Word and Your commandments, if you surrendered with the pleasures of life, and not more than with contrition for one’s sins, and in intemperance, vigil, fasting and prayer have been consigned to oblivion - I earnestly pray to Thee, forgive, most good Father, all such sins of my child, forgive and weaken, even if you have done other evil in this life .

Christ Jesus! You raised up the daughter of Jairus through the faith and prayer of her father. You healed the daughter of the Canaanite wife through faith and the request of her mother: hear my prayer, and do not despise my prayer for my child.

Forgive, Lord, forgive all his sins and, having forgiven and cleansed his soul, remove eternal torment and dwell with all Your saints, who have pleased You from the ages, where there is no sickness, no sorrow, no sighing, but endless life: like there is no man like He will live and will not sin, but You are the only One besides all sin: so that when you judge the world, my child will hear Your most beloved voice: come, blessed of My Father, and inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

For You are the Father of mercies and generosity. You are our life and resurrection, and we send glory to You with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen."

Prayer for a deceased son

and not more than in contrition for one’s sins, and in intemperance, vigil, fasting and prayer have been abandoned to oblivion - I earnestly pray to Thee, forgive, most good Father, all such sins of my child, forgive and weaken, even if you have done other evil things in this life. Christ Jesus!

How to properly remember the dead?

People, even when arriving at a cemetery, do not always behave correctly and in accordance with the canons of the Orthodox Church. But they are quite simple and include only a few points:

  • keep the grave clean;
  • do not use foul language;
  • do not drink alcohol.

It is also obligatory to visit the temple on the day of remembrance and write a note with the name of the deceased so that the church minister will pronounce it during the service. It is also advisable to order a memorial service, but this is done at the request of the relative.

How to pray for an unbaptized mother?

It happens that children belong to the bosom of the Orthodox Church, but their parents never accepted baptism, leaving life not aligned with God. How to pray for the deceased mother in this case? After all, everything that we told earlier is done only for Orthodox Christians who have been baptized. Is it really possible to leave mom’s soul without repentance and prayer?

These questions, as it turns out, worry many parishioners of the Orthodox Church. On this score, clergy advise praying at home in your own words. This cannot be done within the walls of the temple. Also, if you wish, you can read a prayer to Saint Uar, but, we repeat, this can only be done at home.

Our parents were always by our side during life, and they do not leave their children even after leaving life. Often it is through their prayers that we cope with our troubles and life’s trials, so our primary duty is to ask God for the souls of our mothers and fathers.

About remembering the dead at home

Within the walls of your home there should always be a memory of your parents; do not be afraid to remember them in your room, standing in front of the icons. Home prayer is a real salvation for loved ones of the deceased. You can ask Father in more detail about how exactly the text should be read, because it must be included in the morning address to a relative or in the evening. Those who have passed on to another world feel much freer as soon as we begin to read the sacred text for them. All prayers are as short as possible, so you can easily learn them by heart yourself.
