A mother’s sigh for her children (St. Ambrose of Optina)

Another prayer, St. Ambrose of Optina

Lord, You are the only One who weighs everything, who is able to do everything, and who wants to save everyone and come to the mind of Truth.
Enlighten my child (name) with the knowledge of Thy truth and Thy Holy will, strengthen him to walk according to Thy commandments and have mercy on me, a sinner, through the prayers of Thy Most Pure Mother, the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary and Thy saints (all holy families are listed), for Thou art glorified with Thy Beginning Son and with Your Most Holy and Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos, to the Guardian Angel, prayers for the blessing of children, when teaching children, about the life structure of children and others can be viewed here...

Prayer of Nectarios from the Antichrist

The prayer of the Optina Nectary will help save us from evil and restore peace of mind.

Jesus Christ, the merciful Son of God, who has the power to judge the living and the dead. Grant forgiveness to all sinners, forgive all sins committed in our lives, hide us from the gaze of the Antichrist in your hidden saving desert. Amen.

A sincere prayer, said from the heart and with firm faith, can give everyone peace and peace of mind.

Psalm to David, 36.

Do not be jealous of those who are evil; be not jealous of those who commit lawlessness. Like the grass they will soon dry up, and like the potion of grain they will soon disappear. Trust in the Lord, and do goodness, and populate the earth, and enjoy its riches. Delight the Lord, and He will grant you the petitions of your heart. Open your way to the Lord, and trust in Him, and He will create: and He will bring forth your righteousness like light and your destiny like noonday. Obey the Lord and beg Him. Do not be jealous of a man who is late on his journey and commits a crime. Stop being angry and leave rage: do not be jealous or be deceitful. Those who are wicked will be consumed, but those who endure the Lord will inherit the earth. And yet a little while, and there will be no sinner: and you will seek his place, and will not find it. The meek ones will inherit the earth and enjoy the abundance of the world. The sinner looks down on the righteous and gnashes his teeth. The Lord will laugh at him and despise him, when his day comes. The sinner has drawn the sword, strained her bow, cast down the wretched and the poor, and slain the upright in heart. Let their sword enter into their hearts, and let their bows be broken. A little is better for the righteous than the much wealth of sinners. For the sinners' arms will be broken, but the Lord will strengthen the righteous. The Lord knows the way of the blameless, and their inheritance will endure forever. They will not be ashamed in times of cruelty, and in days of famine they will be satisfied, as sinners will perish. Defeat the Lord, become greatly glorified by them and ascend, vanishing like smoke. The sinner borrows and does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives. For those who bless Him will inherit the earth, but those who curse Him will be consumed. From the Lord a man’s feet are straightened, and his ways are greatly delighted. Whenever he falls, he will not be broken, for the Lord strengthens his hand. The youngest was, for he grew old, and did not see the righteous man left, below his seed asking for bread. All day long the righteous one has mercy and gives back, and his seed will be a blessing. Turn away from evil, and do good, and dwell in the age of the century. For the Lord loves judgment and will not forsake His venerables, they will be preserved forever. But the wicked will marry, and the seed of the wicked will be consumed. The righteous women will inherit the earth and dwell in it forever. The mouth of the righteous shall learn wisdom, and his tongue shall speak judgment. The law of his God is in his heart, and his feet will not falter. The sinner looks at the righteous and seeks to kill him. The Lord will not leave him in his hand; he will judge him even when he judges him. Be patient with the Lord, and preserve His way, and He will exalt you, even though you will inherit the earth, and be consumed by a sinner, you will see. I saw the wicked being exalted and towering like the cedars of Lebanon. And he passed by, and behold he was not, and sought him, and his place was not found. Maintain kindness and see righteousness, for there is a remnant for a man in peace. The wicked will be consumed together: the remnants of the wicked will be consumed. The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord, and their Protector is in time of tribulation. And the Lord will help them, and deliver them, and remove them from sinners, and save them, because they trusted in Him.

The praise of the song of David, not written among the Jews, 90.

Audio:

Living in the help of the Most High, he will dwell in the blood of the Heavenly God. Says the Lord: You are my protector and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. For He will deliver you from the net of the trap, and from the words of rebellion, His splash will overshadow you, and under His wing you hope: His truth will surround you with weapons. Do not fear from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies in the days, from the things that pass in the darkness, from the grime and the demon of the midday. Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will be at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, but look with your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. For You, O Lord, are my hope, You have made the Most High your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and wound will not approach your body, as His Angel commanded you about you, to keep you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their arms, but when you dash your foot against a stone, you will step on the asp and basilisk, and cross over the lion and the serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, because I have known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in tribulation, I will destroy him, and I will glorify him, I will fill him with long days, and I will show him My salvation.

He who lives under the roof of the Most High, under the shadow of the Almighty, rests, says to the Lord: “My refuge and my defense, my God, in whom I trust!” He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from the destructive plague, He will cover you with His feathers, and you will be safe under His wings; shield and fence - His truth. You will not be afraid of the terrors in the night, the arrow that flies by day, the plague that walks in the darkness, the plague that devastates at noon. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you: you will only look with your eyes and see the retribution of the wicked. For you said: “The Lord is my hope”; You have chosen the Most High as your refuge; no evil will befall you, and no plague will come near your dwelling; for He will command His angels about you - to guard you in all your ways: they will carry you in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone; you will step on the asp and basilisk; You will trample on the lion and the dragon. “Because he loved Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he has known My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him; I am with him in sorrow; I will deliver him and glorify him, I will satisfy him with long days, and I will show him My salvation.”

Daily prayer at the beginning of the day

Morning prayers are very important because they help us to tune in, find harmony in our souls and receive the support of the saints in the tasks of waiting. There are several types of prayers to the Almighty practiced by the Optiny monks. The short text is more popular, but the full version of the old prayer from Optiny is much more effective.

Keep your feelings, and in unexpected situations, don’t let me forget that everything has passed. Teach me wisely to deal with each member of my family, with those who surround me, with the younger and the elder, and not to sadden anyone, so as not to embarrass, but to benefit. Give me strength, O Lord, so that I can endure all events without fatigue.

Do not leave me to be torn away from my enemies, to monitor my actions. Thank you God for everything because I believe it leads to better things. Teach your faith, patience, love, forgiveness, give me hope and peace. Show me how to serve you. Blogosław all my words, thoughts and actions. Amen."

It is better to give it up every day to find help and ask for the protection and guidance of the saints before they become immersed in global issues and emotions.

There is another prayer that should be repeated every night before going to bed.

These words, spoken from the heart, will help highlight fatigue, forget about the problems of the past day, and find peace and new strength in sleep.

The prayer of a beggar, when he is discouraged, and before the Lord he pours out his prayer, 101.

Audio:

Lord, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to You. Do not turn Your face away from me: even if I mourn for a day, incline Your ear to me: even if I call on You for a day, hear me soon. As if my days had disappeared like smoke, and my bones had dried up like dry land. I was wounded like grass, and my heart wasted away, as if I had forgotten to bear my bread. Because of the voice of my groaning my bone clings to my flesh. I became like the tawny owl of the desert, like a nighttime corvid on its dive. I walked and walked like a special bird here. All day long I have reproached you, and those who praise me swear by me. It became ashes like I ate bread, and I dissolved my drink with tears. From the presence of Thy anger and Thy wrath: for as Thou hast exalted Thou hast cast me down. My days have turned away like the shade, and I have dried up like hay. But You, Lord, remain forever, and Your memory endures forever. You have risen to show mercy to Zion, for the time has come to show mercy to it. For Thy servants have favored his stone, and his dust they will buffet. And the nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kingdoms of the earth will fear Your glory. For the Lord will build Zion and appear in His glory. Consider the prayer of the humble, and do not despise their prayers. Let this be written for generations, and the people of the land praise the Lord. As from His holy heights, the Lord looked down from Heaven to earth, to hear the groaning of the chained, to release the sons of the slain, to proclaim the name of the Lord in Zion, and His praise in Jerusalem. Sometimes the people and the king will gather together for the work of the Lord. Answer Him on the way of His strength: make known to me the decline of my days. Do not bring me to the end of my days: in the generation of your generations. In the beginning, O Lord, You founded the earth, and Your hand made the heavens. They will perish, but You remain, and all like a robe they will promise, and like a garment I will wear, and they will be changed. You are the same, and Your years will not fail. Your sons will dwell, and their seed will be perfected forever.

The prayer of a sufferer when he becomes discouraged and pours out his sorrow before the Lord. God! Hear my prayer, and let my cry come to You. Hide not Your face from me; in the day of my tribulation, incline Your ear to me; on the day I will call, hear me soon; For my days are gone like smoke, and my bones are burned like a brand; my heart is smitten and withered like grass, so that I forget to eat my bread; because of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my flesh. I am like a pelican in the desert; I became like an owl on the ruins; I don’t sleep and sit like a lonely bird on the roof. Every day my enemies revile me, and those who are angry with me curse me. I eat ashes like bread, and I dissolve my drink with tears, because of Thy anger and Thy indignation, for Thou hast exalted me and cast me down. My days are like a retreating shadow, and I am withered like grass. But You, Lord, remain forever, and Your memory endures forever. You will arise, you will have mercy on Zion, for the time has come to have mercy on it, for the time has come; for Thy servants have loved its stones, and have pity for its dust. And the nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth will fear Your glory. For the Lord will build Zion and appear in His glory; He will listen to the prayers of the helpless and will not despise their prayers. This will be written about for the generation that follows, and the generation to come will praise the Lord, for He came down from His holy height, the Lord looked down from heaven to the earth, to hear the groan of the prisoners, to loose the sons of death, so that they might proclaim the name of the Lord in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem, when nations and kingdoms are gathered together to serve the Lord. He exhausted my strength along the way, He shortened my days. I said: My God! do not take me away in half my days. Your summers in childbirth. In the beginning You founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands; they will perish, but You will remain; and they will all wear out like a robe, and like a garment You will change them, and they will be changed; but You are the same, and Your years will not end. The sons of Your servants will live, and their seed will be established before You.

Psalm to David, who at times fled from the face of Absalom his son, 3.

Audio:

Lord, why have we multiplied the cold? Many people rise up against me, many people say to my soul: there is no salvation for him in his God. But you, Lord, are my Protector, my glory, and lift up my head. With my voice I cried to the Lord, and He heard me from His holy mountain. I fell asleep and fell asleep, and arose, as if the Lord would intercede for me. I will not be afraid of those people around who attack me. Arise, Lord, save me, my God, for you have struck down all those who were at enmity with me in vain: you have crushed the teeth of sinners. Salvation is the Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people.

Translation: Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son. God! how my enemies have multiplied! Many are rebelling against me; Many say to my soul: “He has no salvation in God.” But You, Lord, are a shield before me, my glory, and You lift up my head. With my voice I cry to the Lord, and He hears me from His holy mountain. I lie down, sleep and get up, for the Lord protects me. I will not be afraid of the people who have taken up arms against me from all sides. Arise, Lord! save me, my God! for You strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation is from the Lord. Upon Your people is Your blessing.

All prayers to St. Ambrose of Optina

A God-wise mentor, consoler and man of prayer, the Monk Ambrose truly became the crown and adornment of the Optina eldership. Many people flocked to the door of his wretched cell for advice and consolation.

Elder Ambrose became famous for his insight, the gift of healing bodily ailments and healing spiritual wounds.

They pray to him for help in various everyday needs, for healing in illnesses, for the firm standing of the Russian people in the paternal faith, for good morals and the Christian upbringing of children.

Troparion to St. Ambrose of Optina, tone 5

Like a healing source, we flow to you, Ambrose, our father, for you faithfully instruct us on the path of salvation, protect us with prayers from troubles and misfortunes, comfort us in bodily and mental sorrows, and, moreover, teach us humility, patience and love; pray to Christ, the lover of mankind and zealous Intercessor, for our souls to be saved.

Kontakion to St. Ambrose of Optina, tone 2

Having fulfilled the covenant of the Chief Shepherd, you inherited the grace of eldership, your heart aching for all who flow to you with faith. Likewise, we, your children, cry out to you with love: Holy Father Ambrose, pray to Christ God to save our souls.

First prayer to St. Ambrose of Optina

O great elder and servant of God, reverend our father Ambrose, praise to the Optina and all Rus' teacher of piety! We glorify your humble life in Christ, by which God has exalted your name while you were still on earth, especially crowning you with heavenly honor upon your departure to the chamber of eternal glory.

Accept now the prayer of us, your unworthy children, who honor you and call on your holy name, deliver us through your intercession before the Throne of God from all sorrowful circumstances, mental and physical ailments, evil misfortunes, corrupting and evil temptations, send peace to our Fatherland from the great-gifted God, peace and prosperity, be the immutable patron of this holy monastery, in which you yourself labored in prosperity and you have pleased our glorified God with all in the Trinity, to Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and ever forever and ever. Amen.

Second prayer to St. Ambrose of Optina

O venerable and God-bearing Father Ambrose! You, desiring to work for the Lord, settled here and labored untiringly in labor, vigils, prayers and fasting, and you were a mentor to monastics, and a zealous teacher to all people.

Now, after your departure from the earthly, standing before the Heavenly King, pray to His goodness to show mercy to the place of your settlement, this holy monastery, where you continually abide in the spirit of your love, and to all your people, who with faith fall to the race of your relics, for the good petition fulfill them. Ask our merciful Lord to grant us an abundance of earthly blessings, even more so for the benefit of our souls, and may we be worthy to end this temporary life in repentance, and on the day of judgment may we be worthy of standing and enjoying His Kingdom forever and ever. . Amen.

Third prayer to St. Ambrose of Optina

O all-honorable elder of the glorious and wondrous Optina Hermitage, venerable and God-bearing Father Ambrose! Our Church is a good adornment and a gracious lamp, illuminating everyone with heavenly light, the red and spiritual fruit of Russia and all the sunflowers, abundantly delighting and cheering the souls of the faithful! Now, with faith and trembling, we fall before the celibate reliquary of your holy relics, which you have mercifully granted for comfort and help to the suffering, we humbly pray to you with our hearts and lips, holy father, as an all-Russian mentor and teacher of piety, a shepherd and a doctor of our mental and physical ailments: look for your children, who greatly sin in words and deeds, and visit us with your much and holy love, with which you gloriously succeeded even in the days of earth, especially after your righteous death, instructing the saints and God-enlightened fathers in the rules, admonishing us in the commandments of Christ, in You were jealous of their goodness until the last hour of your difficult monastic life; ask us, weak in soul and in distress in sorrow, a favorable and saving time for repentance, true correction and renewal of our life, in which we, sinners, have become vain in mind and heart, having given ourselves over to indecent and cruel passion, vice and lawlessness, of which there is no number; accept therefore, protect and cover us with the shelter of your many mercies, send us a blessing from the Lord, so that we may bear the good yoke of Christ in long-suffering until the end of our days, looking forward to the future life and the Kingdom, where there is no sorrow or sighing, but life and endless joy, abundantly flowing from the One, All-Holy and Blessed Source of immortality in the Trinity of the worshiped God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

What do they pray to the elder for?

He was born into the family of a priest and from childhood he was instilled with a love for the church, as well as its traditions. His parents tried to give the boy a good education, which in the future allowed him to work as a teacher in the family of a local landowner. But soon a disease was discovered that turned his whole life upside down. Then he made a promise that if he survived, he would become a monk. I had to wait for complete healing for 3 years to fulfill this vow.

His life as a clergyman began in the Optina Hermitage. After some time, he had to endure another test, which greatly undermined his already compromised health. But the elder did not despair and did not give up serving the Lord. He was as positive as ever. It was often said about him that he was very educated and knew 5 languages. In addition, he took an active part in the formatting of books.

He never said or showed by his appearance that there was anything wrong with him. On the contrary, his feelings of compassion and happiness were directed to help those who needed them. He tried to leave behind as many good deeds as possible. He wanted to build various temples and churches. And he helped the students of the theological seminary both spiritually and financially. Throughout the day he could often be seen in solitude and in prayer. Through it all, his face was constantly adorned with a smile.

In the last years of his worldly life, he understood that his strength was gradually leaving him. That is why he prayed even more diligently and tried to complete all the work he had begun at the Shamordino monastery.

It was important for him that after his departure to another world, the parishioners of the monastery received everything they needed. He died in this monastery, but according to his will, his body was transported to his native Optina monastery

At this time, the relics of this saint reside in the Vvedensky Cathedral of Optina Hermitage. Every year a large number of pilgrims come here to experience the atmosphere of mystery and grace. October 23 is considered the day of remembrance of this saint.

Most often this saint is approached with requests for:

  • the gift of children
  • insight in making the right decision,
  • healing diseases,
  • guidance on the true path,
  • protection from enemies,
  • assistance in finding a job and more.

How to offer prayers to the elders

Later, from the Optina monastery they already won the Orthodox faith, because their prayers are able to heal soul and body. In order to refer to force majeure as a result, it is worth adhering to some recommendations.

  1. Every Christian can ask monks for help. The only condition is a strong faith in God, observance of all commandments, a sincere desire to become a better person and receive sinful intentions.
  2. Requests to heaven must be made in silence. If you can do it in the Church, it's worth doing. If it is difficult to go to the temple of God every day, you can pray at home, but it is better to choose a time when family members are away or asleep, so that you do not get scattered through worldly things.
  3. God and the saints only help people with pure souls and good intentions. If you want someone to interfere with your prayers and impose their will, don't try any better.
  4. You must pray regularly, every day you can be heard.
  5. It is better to begin each prayer “Our Father” and ask for forgiveness, to sincerely repent for all your actions.
  6. It is better to try to learn the text by heart. If you can't recognize it, you can read it slowly, thinking about it and letting each verse pass through you.
  7. Pray not only when something is needed, but also thank the Almighty for all the opportunities and joys that are given to us.
