Apostle John the Theologian 2022: what date according to the church calendar

John the Theologian is one of the most faithful followers of Jesus Christ. He managed to outlive the other apostles. For a long time, he was the only one who accompanied the Savior on his path, and witnessed troubles and joys during the wanderings of the Son of God. Today Christians honor the icon of John, where the elder shows the world his famous merciful gaze. There is a point of view that on this day one can expect the help and protection of John and the Lord himself. Let's try to figure out what holiday Christians celebrate on May 21. Also, the site “Pronedra” wrote earlier that to congratulate your relatives you can select pictures, congratulations and prayers for St. John the Evangelist on May 21.

When is the day of remembrance of the Apostle John the Theologian in 2022?

The Day of Remembrance of the Holy Apostle John the Theologian will be celebrated twice in 2022.

  • May 21
is the day of the annual descent of thin pink dust, which healed illnesses, at the burial site of John the Evangelist.
  • October 9
is the day of the repose of the Apostle John.

According to the old style, the day of the presentation of John the Evangelist was celebrated on the church calendar on September 26. The day of the departure of pink ashes at the burial site of John the Theologian was celebrated on May 8 according to the old style church calendar. The dates are not moving; they are celebrated by the Orthodox Church on the same day every year.

What not to do?

It is worth noting right away that this holiday does not apply to the Twelfths, therefore it does not impose restrictions on the intake of certain products. However, it is recommended to observe certain boundaries: it is undesirable to consume alcoholic beverages, meat products and other excesses.

You cannot spend the day of St. John the Theologian in anger and in a bad mood. On the holiday they do not swear, do not enter into conflicts, do not use foul language, do not argue or sort things out. The holiday should be spent with family and friends, in peace and harmony.

If you are planning to follow traditions, then we advise you to tune in to a positive mood from the very morning, smile and bring goodness to everyone you meet on your way.

Life of John the Evangelist

John, along with his brother James, followed Jesus when he called them on Lake Gennesaret. Both left their home and became apostles, disciples of Jesus, devoting their entire lives to the faith. John practically never separated from the teacher and was one of those close to him. The Apostle John became one of three people who witnessed the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor.

After the ascension of Christ, John the Theologian was in Jerusalem, caring for the Mother of God like a loving son. After the departure of Saint Mary, he went to preach the Gospel in Ephesus and other cities of Asia Minor together with his disciple Prochorus. While traveling on a ship, they were caught in a storm and the ship sank. Everyone was saved except John. Prochorus yearned for his mentor, but went to Ephesus alone. After 2 weeks, Prokhor found John on the shore, who had been on the open sea for 2 weeks, but the Lord saved his life.

John and Prochorus went to Ephesus together and preached the true faith. During their sermons, real miracles happened. At this time, by order of Emperor Nero, burnings against Christians began, and John was captured and transported to Rome, where he was sentenced to death. They tried to boil John in a cauldron, but he survived all the ordeals. He was sent to the island of Patmos, where he lived for many years.

On a remote island, John did the same thing - preached Christian teaching, cast out demons from idol temples. The locals tried to resist his teaching, but the Lord himself helped John.

During one of their three-day fasts, which John and Prokhor were passing in a desert mountain, thunder roared. Prochorus was frightened, but John ordered him to write down everything that was said. The Holy Spirit of God spoke through the apostle and commanded him to write a book about what he heard. In 67, the Book of Revelation (Apocalypse) was born.

Before the book of the Apostle John, there was only 3 Gospels. In his Gospel he explained and added what other evangelists said unclearly or kept silent altogether.

Many years later, the Apostle John, having received his long-awaited freedom, returned to Ephesus, where he continued to educate people. The three Epistles written by John talk about what love for one’s neighbors is, that without love people cannot become closer to God. For these works, the Church spoke of the Theologian John as “the apostle of love.”

Where are the relics of the saint?

The Holy Apostle John died when he was almost one hundred and five years old, significantly outliving almost all of Jesus Christ's contemporaries. When the time came for Apostle John to depart to God, the elder and seven disciples went out of town. He asked them to dig him a grave in the form of a cross, which he lay down in and ordered to cover with earth. The students, afraid to disobey the teacher, cried, but complied with his request by covering the pit with a cloth. Later, other people learned about the burial and tried to dig it up, but found nothing.

Every year on May 21, fine dust emerged from the burial of the Apostle John the Theologian, healing people. In honor of this miracle, the Church also celebrates the memory of the holy Apostle John the Theologian on this day.

Merry Christmas to John the Baptist!
Let faith live in your hearts, Happiness will be, like peace, endless, And love will certainly come into your souls, forever remaining in the hidden corners easily, So that you smile so brightly, And the problems go far away!

Let the Baptist intercede in the hour of desperate despair, let there be health in the body, joy and peace in the heart.

The Christmas of Jonah the Baptist has arrived, Come on, light the candles, So that the Holy power will rise to protect You, close your soul from grief.

When the baby was named, Zechariah was asked the same question: “What is the name of this holy child?” And then his voice returned.

“You are God, work miracles” You can say on this day. And the stripe in your life will turn out to be a bright one.

On the Nativity of John the Baptist, candles will be lit in the church. Let us repent to the Baptist and Christ the Savior.

The holiday lasts one day, John the Baptist does not like laziness. We definitely get up and go to worship.

John the Baptist is a feast day today, We will preserve his memory for centuries, We will quietly honor the prophet of the Lord with the blessed prayer of the whole Christian world.

The Nativity of John the Baptist is celebrated on the seventh of July. For some, he was a master, He could force anyone to pray.

This day used to be pagan. Only the day was Ivan Kupala. And now it is church-classical, the Day of St. John the Baptist.

Like Ivan, like John, This holiday is given to us all, Like the Forerunner, like Kupala. In fact, there is little difference!

You didn't know? Well, then, these days are the same, And the Baptist John He Kupala, he is Ivan!

Zachary and Elizabeth were no longer young, but suddenly an angel of light appeared and gave the answer to their dreams.

He said that a son would be born soon, and his name would be John. And he will baptize in the worldly space in the Jordan River.

The couple, who had reached old age, but lived this life without children, did not hope to see their heirs, how fate brought them a surprise.

But Zechariah once performed a divine service. Archangel Gabriel came down to him and told him the news about the future heir.

But the Virgin Mary supported them, for which Elizabeth repaid her. And to the son of God, who was incarnated in the Virgin, Saint John cried out in the womb of song.

When the baby was named, Zechariah was asked the same question: “What is the name of this holy child?” And then his voice returned.

And they named the baby John, as no one else had been called in their family. Now everyone knows him as a prophet and reveres him along with the Virgin Mary.

Having predicted the coming of the Messiah, He showed himself to be a prophet. By washing the sacrament of waters, He conquered the vices of people.

Beheaded by a cruel hand, He will forever be remembered by us Bent over the mighty river, Entrusting His secrets to the waves.

Preserved holiness for centuries. She is like a balm for the soul, Which truly gives joy In the mundane, mundane wilderness.

It doesn’t matter whether you are rich or poor, Unhappy according to the will of others: May our mind always be bright Among the affairs of everyday, worldly things.

The Apostle of the Church, John, will give grace on this holiday! On the wonderful holiday of Christmas, we will congratulate each other.

Let's wash ourselves with holy water, Let's set a big table with wine, Let's ask God for health, Merry Christmas to everyone!

John came to this Earth and brought good news to people. That, according to God's covenant, many have a chance for salvation.

That the Savior will soon come to us and give paradise to the righteous. In the meantime, John the Baptist, as a forerunner, was sent to this region.

John the Baptist, we trust in your prayer before Him. And with hope and faith we look at the golden halo above our heads.

On the Nativity of the Baptist we wish you to be firm in faith to the end. And with a meek prayer we fall before the angel of the Heavenly Father.

Every year of God, on July seventh, we need to pray, Christmas comes. But not Jesus, the name of Christ, John will replace, and his nature.

His birth was a miracle for the world, What the Archangel Gabriel predicted, And many prayers were said, Before God brought them all to life!

His meeting with people and the world came true for no reason, after all, he is John the Baptist, the Baptist of Christ himself!

The Nativity of John the Baptist This is a great, big holiday, And remembering this, of course, Congratulations, my friend, with all my heart.

I wish now that troubles would never enter your home, that you would find answers to any questions for yourself!

It's Christmas again for the Forerunners, After all, today he was born, It's like magic The way the boy appeared.

So let's celebrate this day with good deeds, Let's drive away sadness and laziness, Let's use good words.

Let us wish everyone happiness, And have a lot of fun, Remember John, Marvel at the good world!

We honor this holiday, We remember it sacredly, Today John the Baptist was born with prayer.

“You are God, work miracles” You can say on this day. And the stripe in your life will turn out to be a bright one.

Zechariah did not believe in the scripture that the Forerunner would be born from him. Faith versus non-belief, who will win? Doesn't matter. But something will happen.

I wish you to live without a doubt, And believe only in the good, Hope, believe and love sacredly, And the bad will fall into the past!

Nativity of John the Baptist

The Prophet was born, praise, people, No one will forget the Forerunner John, He predicted the birth of Christ, Having saved himself from oblivion.
On the Nativity of John the Baptist We expect miracles from the future, We light candles in the church and sing a prayer in glory.

Washing with holy water, we ask for protection and salvation. We trust in his mercy and pray for his forgiveness.

May Christmas bring peace and humility to souls, and may the Lord grant God's blessing.

Merry Christmas to John the Baptist! May he bring good things to the house. Light candles on this solemn day, and goodness will not pass by.

Let the Baptist with great power light a lamp in your heart, So that faith may preserve your spirit For many years to come!

Today is the Christmas of the Forerunner, Let's straighten our hunched shoulders. Let's help our neighbor rise up and never doubt.

We wish you to feel cared for and do work on yourself. Be able to appreciate moments and believe in creation.

Let the holiday begin and overflow with happiness! Saint John was born and sprinkled water on the people.

We will remember the ancient testaments: The legend speaks the truth: The Lord gave Zechariah and Elizabeth a son.

Let's sing the liturgy today. The Forerunner knew the future, Even in the womb of the Messiah he predicted the great coming.

Solemnly prays to you, we listen, After all, it is not for nothing that the holiday was given to us, To remember the day when the Baptist John came to earth.

Today is Christmas for John the Baptist, the Harbinger of the coming of Christ into the world. Today in churches, liturgies and candles will burn all night long, until the morning.

Today we wish faith to the people, Let it illuminate their hearts And let people not regret giving each other care all night, until the morning!

John the Baptist, the Baptist of God and people, appeared in the world. That meeting was marked by the radiance of a thousand candles.

Let there be no sorrow in the world, Let faith save you from trouble, And let hope, like the sea, spread happiness everywhere.

He was born on a July day, the Holy Baptist John was born! Pray for him, believe me, Today everyone is doing well.

Today we will open the door to joy, We will give our smiles to the world, You, please, believe in miracles, We wish happiness to the whole globe!

The word of the prophet, which fell into the souls, may it sprout in them with holy faith, may everyone be heard by the Lord, may every heart live in hope.

May your life be filled with light, May the lights of faith shine in your soul, May the Teaching of Christ be your answer, Salvation, protection for many days.

John's spirit and faith In the power of our Christ, Revered by the whole world On this July day for a reason.

He was a faithful righteous man, They loved him for his goodness, They rewarded him with the name of the saint after his death.

Let everyone greet the Kupala dawn with faith and celebrate the birth of John on this summer day!

The prophet is not a sage, he is a simple man, That God’s word carries with him, People soared in spirit from your message, For this the people reverence you.

He was born at God's command, To clear the way for Jesus, He served with heart and with blessing, Perceiving the essence of the coming Christ.

He baptized people, then he baptized Jesus, And he saw a dove that flew from Heaven, And despite the stone bonds, He served Christ, carrying his heavy cross.

When you are ready to give for Heaven All the best that you have, Then the Lord's grace is upon you, And you, like an ear of corn in God's field, ripen.

Traditions and rituals

John the Theologian is considered the patron saint of travelers. Prayers to this saint protect you from unclean spirits on the road. Road intersections have long had a bad reputation. People believed that evil spirits also came here. The reasons for such rumors were actions performed at crossroads: fortune telling, punishment of the guilty, communication with evil spirits. Therefore, evil spirits could lie in wait for travelers going at a late time. They read conspiracies against evil spirits and prayed to John. This date was the end of winter sowing.

Garlic or onions were avoided. It was believed that this could lead to boils. The day was rich in weather forecasts. This was especially true when the first snow fell. The daytime snow melted quickly, and the night snow fell thoroughly. People who were born on John were engaged in weaving thin straw ropes. They were called running routes. Such a rope symbolized the path of life.
