On December 14, the church honors the memory of Saint Naum, one of the 12 minor prophets. He was born in the village of Elkosha, located in Northern Israel. An Old Testament book was published under his name, which quite vividly describes the political and religious state of Israel at that time. According to legend, Naum died at the age of 45 and was buried in his homeland.
In Rus', the prophet Naum was considered the patron saint of students, for which he was nicknamed the Grammar. In alphabet books and copybooks of the 18th century one could find a prayer addressed to the saint:

The Monastery of St. Naum, which is located on a hill near Lake Ohrid, was built in the 9th-10th centuries by St. Naum of Ohrid, who was the youngest student of Cyril and Methodius, with the help of the rulers of Bulgaria, Simeon and Boris. During the Ottoman period, sometime in the 16th century, the actual church was built on the columns of the church in two stages. Its modern building has a bizarre shape - the shape of an embedded cross in a square space with a dome, standing on four columns. A similar dome with a high vestibule has been added above.

The landmark of Macedonia is decorated with paintings made by the master Trpo. Particularly impressive are the scenes from the life and miracle of St. Naum of Ohrid. They are drawn in the second zone of the mysterious paracleis of Naum. These scenes tell the story of the saint's life and illustrate some of the miracles that he performed. There was a belief that Saint Naum could also cure mental illnesses. According to some reports, there was a hospital inside the monastery.
The iconostasis of the church was carved in 1711 by unknown masters. The icons make an indelible impression, among them the “Crucifixion of Christ” and “Entry into Jerusalem” stand out. They are one of the highest achievements of the first half of the 18th century.
The columns of the Ohrid landmark are decorated with Cyrillic inscriptions, and there is also one verb-Cyrillic inscription dating from the late 10th to 12th centuries. They are an example of the oldest Slavic letters (Cyrillic and Glagolitic).

Brief life of Equal-to-the-Apostles Naum of Ohrid
