In honor of this great event, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Feast of the Entry of the Blessed Virgin Mary into the Temple. The date of celebration is December 4.
Until the age of 14, Maria was raised in the temple by nuns. She studied the Holy Scriptures, did handicrafts, lived piously, and vowed to remain a virgin, to be faithful only to God. However, at her age, according to the rules of those years, Maria had to get married. The clergyman decided to introduce old Joseph as her husband. The old man vowed to preserve the virginal purity of his young wife. Mary lived with Joseph, still studied the Holy Scriptures, and prayed.
One day, a real miracle happened to Mary - Archangel Gabriel appeared in her chambers to tell her the good news. Through the immaculate conception, she was chosen to become a Mother, to give birth to the Son of God, and to name Him Jesus Christ. He was born 9 months later and became the Savior of humanity. The meeting of Mary and Gabriel was immortalized with the feast of the Annunciation.
