Prayer from the works of St. Ephraim the Syrian
Audio:
03:22
Lord, God Almighty, I have sinned in heaven and before You and am no longer worthy to be called Your son, below the name of Your glorious name with my sinful lips, because I have made myself unworthy of heaven and earth, having angered You, good Lord! I am not worthy to ask myself for forgiveness, Lord, for many times I made a promise to repent - and became a liar who did not fulfill my promise, many times you have already restored me, but I fell again willingly. I pronounce my sentence on myself and admit that I am worthy of all punishment and torment. I beg You, Lord, do not turn me away from Your presence and do not depart from me, lest I perish. Now I fall to You, begging: help me, who have strayed from the path of righteousness. Pour out Your bounties on me as on the prodigal son, because I have disgraced my life by wasting the riches of Your goodness. Have mercy on me and do not despise me because of my indecent life. Have mercy on me, like a publican, like a thief: he was rejected by everyone on earth, but You accepted him and made him a resident of the paradise of sweetness. Graciously accept my prayer for reconciliation with You and, according to Your goodness, grant me life at Your coming; and let the evil one be put to shame when he sees that Your righteousness has had mercy on me. Granting forgiveness, Lord, send strength; Convert me so that I may live according to Your holy will. How many times have You visited my darkened mind, but again I return to the worst! I am completely in awe, thinking about this, and again the sweetness of sin overcomes me. How can I list all the gifts of Your grace, Lord, which I, pathetic, have received, but have turned and are turning into nothing through my negligence! You have filled me with thousands of gifts, and I, poor one, repay You with what is contrary to You. But You, Lord, since You have a sea of long-suffering and an abyss of kindness, do not allow me to be whipped like a barren fig tree. Do not delight me, unprepared, do not eat the lamp that has not yet been lit, do not take from here the one who does not have a wedding robe, but, as a good Lover of mankind, have mercy on me, give me time for repentance and before passion Do not place my soul naked before Your mighty, incorruptible throne, like a pathetic disgrace of disgrace. You, Lord, my Savior, Son of the true God, as You know and as You will, according to Your only goodness, turn me from the sin that abides in me and save me from destruction.
Prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ for help
The two most important prayers with petitions and thanksgiving to God are the Lord’s Prayer and the Jesus Prayer. You can replace the words with the Jesus Prayer on the rosary in front of the icon: you need to mentally or out loud say the words:
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner,” and move the bead on the rosary. This should be done for 10 minutes in the morning and evening - this will be your prayer rule. You can also pray with the rosary on the road. The Jesus Prayer is one of the most famous Orthodox prayers. This is a very short prayer with a very deep meaning. Surprisingly, this is both the first step on the path to becoming a believer and the prayer of holy ascetics of piety. Prayer has grace and power that is very great. Prayer is an appeal to God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ for help and mercy. In any difficulties in life, on any day, this prayer can be read with the addition of any petition, so that God protects you from all evil.
The Lord’s Prayer, simply, is the “Our Father,” the words of which all our ancestors knew (there was even the expression “to know like the Lord’s Prayer”) and which every believer should teach his children. If you don’t know its words, learn them by heart; you can read the Lord’s Prayer in Russian:
“Our Father who is in Heaven! May your name be holy and glorified, may your kingdom come, may your will be done, both in heaven and on earth. Give us the bread we need today; and forgive us our debts, which we forgive our debtors; and may we not have the temptations of the devil, but deliver us from the influences of the evil one. For Yours is in heaven and earth the Kingdom and the power and the glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit forever. Amen".
The Lord's Prayer is also called the Lord's Prayer because the words of its petition and thanksgiving were given by the Lord Himself, they were recorded by His evangelists and are found in the New Testament. An Orthodox person prays to the Lord with the following requests and needs:
- About work, so that work can be found or improved;
- For trade to take place;
- About health without diseases;
- About God's mercy in the needs of you and your loved ones;
- About the health of yourself, your family and children;
- About help in getting things done, well-being;
- About the right choice, making the right life decisions;
- Simply grateful - being grateful to God for His help, for your life;
- About getting rid of sins and vices and being grateful that sin is gone.

2:38
In You, Lord, have I trusted, that I may never be ashamed: by Your righteousness deliver me and redeem me. Incline Your ear to me, hasten to take me away: make me a protector in God and a house of refuge, even to save me. For You are my power and my refuge: and for Your name’s sake guide me and nourish me. Deliver me from the net of sowing, and hide me: for thou art my protector, O Lord. In Your hand I will offer my spirit: You, the Lord God of truth, have delivered me. You have hated those who keep vanities in vain: but I have trusted in the Lord. I will rejoice and rejoice in Your mercy, for You have looked upon my humility, You have saved my soul from want and carried me, You have shut me up in the hands of the enemy, You have placed me in space. ze moi. Have mercy on me, Lord, as I grieve: my eye, my soul and my womb are troubled by rage. As if my life had disappeared in illness, and my years were in sighing: my strength was weakened by poverty, and my bones were crushed. From all my enemies there was reproach, and from my neighbors great, and fear from those who knew me: those who saw me fled from me. He was forgotten as if he were dead from the heart: he was like a destroyed vessel. For I have heard the reproach of many who live around me: sometimes they will come together to me and receive my soul together. And I trust in You, Lord, reh: You are my God. My lots are in Your hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. Make Thy face shine upon Thy servant: save me by Thy mercy. Lord, let me not be ashamed, as I called Thee: let them be ashamed of wickedness and go down to hell. Let there be mute flattering lips, speaking against the righteous with iniquity, pride and humiliation. Since the great abundance of Your goodness, O Lord, You have hidden from those who fear You, You have made them to trust in You, before the sons of men: You have hidden them in the secret of Your face from human rebellion, cover them with blood from quarreling tongues. Blessed is the Lord, for you have surprised your mercy in the city of enclosure. And I said in my frenzy: I am rejected from before Thy sight: for this reason Thou heardest the voice of my prayer, and at some time I cried out to Thee. Love the Lord, all you who are like him: for the Lord seeks the truth and rewards those who are excessively proud. Take courage, and let your heart be strong, all you who trust in the Lord.
Translation: In You, O Lord, have I put my trust, that I may never be ashamed; according to Thy righteousness deliver me; incline Your ear to me, hasten to deliver me. Be to me a rocky stronghold, a house of refuge to save me, for You are my rocky mountain and my fence; for Thy name's sake lead me and rule over me. Lead me out of the snare that they have secretly laid for me, for You are my strength. I commend my spirit into Your hand; You have delivered me, O Lord, God of truth. I hate worshipers of vain idols, but I trust in the Lord. I will rejoice and be glad about Your mercy, because You looked upon my misfortune, recognized the sorrow of my soul and did not deliver me into the hands of the enemy; set my feet in a spacious place. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am in distress; My eye, my soul and my womb are withered from grief. My life was spent in sorrow and my years in lamentation; My strength has failed because of my sins, and my bones have dried up. From all my enemies I have become a reproach even among my neighbors and a terror to my acquaintances; Those who see me on the street run away from me. I am forgotten in hearts, as if dead; I am like a broken vessel, for I hear the slander of many; There is horror everywhere as they conspire against me and plot to tear out my soul. And I trust in You, Lord; I say: You are my God. My days are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors. Show Thy bright face to Thy servant; save me by Your mercy. God! Let me not be ashamed that I cry to You; Let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in hell. Let the lying lips become numb, which speak evil against the righteous with pride and contempt. How many good things You have, which You have stored up for those who fear You and which You have prepared for those who trust in You before the sons of men! You shelter them under the cover of Your face from human rebellions, you hide them in the shadow from the bickering of tongues. Blessed be the Lord for showing me His wondrous mercy in the fortified city! In my confusion I thought: “I am rejected from Thy eyes”; but You heard the voice of my prayer when I cried to You. Love the Lord, all ye His righteous; The Lord protects the faithful and rewards those who act arrogantly in abundance. Take courage, and let your hearts be strengthened, all you who hope in the Lord!
Needs attention and respect
At the same time, the priests, despite the fact that this is a prayer for urgent help, warn that it cannot be said hastily, formally. Absolute composure and utmost attention are expected.
After all, addressing God differently is wrong and inappropriate; respect, humility and reverence should be shown. You need to ask the Almighty for the gift of love, patience and strength with all possible attention.
If, without noticing it, you began to read the prayer automatically, and then suddenly discovered this, it is best to stop. And then go back and do it all again, focusing on the essence, with feeling and understanding. Only such an appeal will be real and effective.

As the Lord, Teacher and Benefactor, we glorify, praise, sing and magnify and, falling, thank you again! We humbly pray to you for your inexpressible mercy: as you have now received and answered our prayers, so in the future we will prosper in love for you, for our neighbor and in all virtues.
