Who is Joseph Volotsky
Joseph Volotsky, who bears the name John Sanin in the world, came from a wealthy family living in the village of Yazvische, Volokolamsk district. Over time, almost all members of the family of the future saint devoted themselves to serving the Lord. John himself, from the age of 7, studied monastic service at the Volokolamsk Monastery of the Exaltation of the Cross.
By the age of 20, the young man finally decided on his calling and decided to leave worldly life, retiring to the Borovsky monastery. Here he took monastic vows under the name Joseph. After the death of the abbot of the monastery, Father Paphnutius, control of the monastery passed to Joseph.
The monk did not like the order established in the brotherhood; he tried to introduce a stricter order. But the monastic brethren did not like the new order. Therefore, the saint decided to retire to the forested Volokolamsk wasteland in order to establish his monastery there.
The construction of the monastery in the name of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary was completed in 1484, and on August 15 the church was illuminated. Like-minded people who shared his idea of monastic life gathered around the Volokolamsk abbot.
The monk drew up a special Charter. It spelled out the rules of monastic life, consisting of unceasing work, strict obedience and constant Jesus Prayer.
But the Volotsk abbot was not only involved in the arrangement and management of the monastery. The saint devoted a lot of energy to the fight against the enemies of Orthodoxy who propagandized the Jewish heresy. Father Joseph was adamant towards heretics who deny the Holy Trinity, demanding that they be imprisoned and, for those who are especially persistent, the death penalty.
Saint Joseph also found time for educational activities. The theological treatises of the hieromonk have become a real manual for Orthodox Christians. The saint's earthly life was interrupted on September 9, 1515. They buried the holy elder on the territory of the monastery he created.
Prayer to Seraphim of Sarov about trade
“O wonderful Father Seraphim, great miracle worker of Sarov, quick and obedient helper to all who come running to you!
During the days of your earthly life, no one was tired of you or comforted by your departure, but everyone was blessed by the vision of your face and the benevolent voice of your words.
Moreover, the gift of healing, the gift of insight, the gift of healing for weak souls has appeared abundantly in you.
When God called you from earthly labors to heavenly rest, your love ceased from us, and it is impossible to count your miracles, multiplied like the stars of heaven: for all over the end of our earth you appeared to the people of God and granted them healing.
In the same way, we cry out to you: O most quiet and meek servant of God, daring man of prayer to Him, rejecting none of those who call upon you, offer up your powerful prayer for us to the Lord of Hosts,
may he strengthen our power, may he grant us everything useful in this life and everything useful for spiritual salvation, may he protect us from the falls of sin and teach us true repentance,
in order to lead us, without stumbling, into the eternal Heavenly Kingdom, where you now shine in unfathomable glory, and there sing with all the saints the Life-Giving Trinity until the end of the age.

What do they ask the saint for?
The Monk Joseph of Volotsky, like all saints, provides miraculous help in various situations.
The miracle worker is asked:
- heal from a serious illness;
- protect from enemies;
- prevent various troubles;
- relieve hunger and poverty.
The saint devoted a lot of time to defending Orthodoxy from the Jewish heresy. Therefore, relatives of people who have fallen into sects often turn to him. They also pray to the saint for strengthening faith and guidance on the true path.
As abbot of the Volotsk Monastery, the monk took care of ensuring the church's financial independence. Therefore, even after death, the saint provides special assistance to business executives, for which he was officially declared by the Orthodox Church the patron saint of entrepreneurs and traders.
Prayer for unemployment
Sometimes a person faces the danger of losing his job. Those who are near retirement age, have just finished studying or have small children know very well that finding a new place will be very difficult.
Then they pray to their heavenly intercessor by date of birth:
“Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of the beginningless Father! You yourself said when you were among people on earth that “without me you cannot do anything.” Yes, my Lord, I believe with all my heart and with all my soul what you have said and I ask your blessing on my cause. Grant me to begin it without hindrance and to complete it safely for your glory. Amen!"

Texts of Orthodox prayers
In 1579, the Monk Joseph was canonized as a locally revered saint. And in 1591, with the blessing of Patriarch Job, the commission for the canonization of saints established church-wide veneration of the saint. Troparion for children
The Troparion to Joseph of Volotsky is considered one of the most powerful canonical texts.

For trade
Among the prayer texts to St. Joseph there are also those that help in trade matters. The main thing is that the person praying does not try to deceive other people for the sake of making a profit. Prayer will be especially effective if part of the profits goes to a good cause.

“O great mentor, zealot and teacher of the Orthodox faith, Holy Wise Joseph! Accept the prayer of us sinners brought to you, and with warm intercession beseech the glorified God in the Trinity, that He may bestow His rich mercy on us sinners, and establish the right faith and piety in His Holy Orthodox Church: may He give its shepherd holy zeal for the salvation of the verbal flock, for they will keep the believers, and enlighten and convert the unbelievers and those who have fallen away from the true faith. Ask us all for everything that is useful in this temporary life and useful for our eternal salvation. The Lord tested the newly built monastery of the Venerable Joseph with a visit of His wrath, but also with mercy: for the sins of mankind, He brought great hunger to the land of Volokolamsk and to all the surrounding villages, as it was useless for many people to perish. Reverend Joseph of Volotsky is one of the saints who helps people who want to run their own business. Before starting your own business, it is recommended to turn to God’s saint with the following prayer:

Leading your great boldness to God and resorting to your firm intercession, in contrition of heart we pray to you: illumine us with the light of the grace given to you and with your prayers help us to pass through the stormy sea of this life serenely and to reach the haven of salvation without blemish: enslave us to vain things, and love sin, and if weakness arises from the evils that have befallen us, to whom shall we resort if not to you, who showed the inexhaustible wealth of mercy in your earthly life? We believe that even after your departure you acquired the greatest gift of showing mercy to those in need. On the gift of reasoning
Reasoning is one of the special gifts given to man by God to understand how best to do a particular thing. The gift of reasoning is necessary not only in spiritual life, but also for carrying out everyday affairs.
The Monk Joseph is asked for the gift of reasoning with the help of the following prayer:
“O great zealot and teacher of the Orthodox faith, Holy Wise Joseph! Accept the prayer brought to you from us sinners, and with warm intercession beg God in the Trinity, that He may send down His rich mercy to us, sinners, and the servants of God (names), and may He put aside His righteous anger, which is directed at us, and deliver us and here those remembered from enemies visible and invisible. Reading rules
You can pray to St. Joseph of Volotsky both in church and at home. To perform a prayer service at home, it is recommended to purchase an icon depicting a saint.
Your prayer will be heard much faster if you follow certain rules:
- Say the prayer text while standing, facing the icon.
- Place a lit candle near the iconostasis.
- Before reading a spiritual text, get rid of all vain thoughts from your head, focusing on the spoken words.
- Before starting and after finishing the prayer, be sure to make the sign of the cross.
Prayer should not sound formal. Sacred words must come from the heart, supported by sincere faith. Otherwise, the prayer will not be heard by the holy saint and the Lord.
