Accept punishment and good things will happen, but keep reproof and you will gain wisdom. He who keeps his own ways, guards his soul, but he who loves lives his life, spares his lips, before contrition comes annoyance, and before a fall, evil thoughts. It is better to be meek-hearted with humility than to share self-interest with annoying people. He who is wise in things, the finder of good things, trust in the Lord, blessed. The wise and prudent will be called evil, but there will be sweetness in words and more will be heard. And the rest of the succession of the Presanctified, in which we also partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ. At the meal we eat oil and drink wine, working for the sake of the vigil. In the Studite Rule, he commands to eat dry food all that week, more than others, since they are days of mourning and not holidays: in these days one must eat singing and Alleluia.
