What is the difference between sorokoust and 40 obeden. What is Sorokoust and how it should be performed according to the charter of the Orthodox Church

Sorokoust prayer for Health: what is it and how is it performed? We read the Priest’s answer about what Sorokoust is, as well as the text of the prayer, which you can read at home yourself.

When the Lord was hanging on the cross, the thief crucified on the right turned to Him: “Lord, remember me in Thy Kingdom.” There was so much repentance, humility and faith in these words that Christ immediately forgave this man’s sins. “Today you will be with Me in Paradise,” the Savior said in response.

What happened? Why did the robber, who committed many evil deeds and deserved hellish torment, end up in Paradise? The Lord forgave him for his sins. Roughly the same thing happens at the Liturgy, when people submit notes with names to remember both the health of the living and the repose of the dead.

Named particles taken from the prosphora at Proskomedia are washed, transformed from wine, with the Blood of the Lord. The church asks to remember those whose names are indicated in the note. A person’s soul is cleansed through the prayers of relatives, the priest and the Church. The power of grace depends on our faith and love for the one for whom we pray.

Prayer service for the repose of the soul

Every believer should understand the importance of prayer services for the repose of the soul.
Unfortunately, sooner or later we will all have to bury our loved ones, relatives and parents. This unpleasant event will always resonate with sadness and pain in our hearts. Because, especially, we are connected with our parents by warm memories from childhood.

And this sadness may not go away for a very long time, despite the fact that Orthodox Christians believe in an afterlife. Therefore, the Orthodox Church teaches us all to pray for dead people, because then peace comes to our souls.

When to order a prayer service for the repose

  • You can order a service before the liturgy. But the best time is in the evening or early in the morning;
  • Write down the names of the deceased in the notes. Try to remember them at the same time. When you remember a person and wish him only good things, this is already a kind of prayer;
  • Write up to 10 names in the note. If there are more of them, make more notes;
  • Names must be written exclusively in the genitive case;
  • You only need to indicate the church names of the deceased, that is, those that were given at baptism;
  • There is no need to write surnames, degrees, titles and titles;
  • If you order a prayer service within 40 days of death, then you must add the status next to the name (infant - up to 7 years old, killed, warrior, etc.), as well as the name day of the deceased.

It is also worth noting that a memorial service or prayer service for the repose are all short services, but they are different. Notes for the memorial service are submitted separately.

Prayers for the departed

And most importantly, remember that someone who has already died cannot ask the Lord for himself. When a person dies, his soul loses its right to vote. But if they pray for him, order memorial services and other short church services, then the soul of the deceased rejoices. It’s not in vain that they say that as long as a person is remembered, he will live.

And here is the text of the prayer for every deceased:

Remember, O Lord our God, in the faith and hope of the life of Thy eternally departed servant, our brother (name), as Good and Lover of mankind, forgiving sins and consuming untruths, weaken, forsake and forgive all his voluntary and involuntary sins, deliver him from eternal torment and the fire of Gehenna, and grant him the communion and enjoyment of Your eternal good things, prepared for those who love You: even if you sin, do not depart from You, and undoubtedly in the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Your glorified God in the Trinity, faith, and the Unity in the Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is Orthodox even until his last breath of confession. Be merciful to him, and have faith in You instead of deeds, and rest with Your saints as You are Generous: for there is no man who will live and not sin. But You are the One besides all sin, and Your truth is the truth forever, and You are the One God of mercies and generosity, and love for mankind, and to You we send glory, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

God bless you!

Complete collection and description: what kind of prayer is the Magpie for health in three churches for the spiritual life of a believer.

Faith is something that for many centuries has helped everyone retain grains of humanity within themselves. In life, the white streak sooner or later gives way to black, and in moments of anxiety and despair, people always turn to higher powers for help.

There are many ways to convey your desire to God - these are prayers, quiet conversations before bed, church services, confessions, and so on. Sorokoust about health is one of the most common and powerful ways of appealing to the Almighty, which has been loved by Orthodox people since time immemorial.

What means?

Sorokoust is a liturgy that is conducted by clergy for forty days. This service is considered very powerful because with its help the name of the person on whom it is performed appears before God every day. Hence, it is generally accepted that those who ordered a magpie in the church have a greater chance of having their cherished desire come true than others.

There are two types of magpies - the liturgy for health and the service for the repose of the dead

. Nowadays, it is a common opinion that magpie health is recorded only for those who are sick and those who cannot get better. This is a misconception.

According to the clergy, the magpie about health is not only able to restore a person’s physical and spiritual condition, but also puts powerful protection around him, through which no evil eye or damage can break through.

Sorokoust differs from the psalter about health

. Since the magpie is a prayerful commemoration that takes place over 40 days, and the psalter is a liturgical book, and during its reading they remember the health of those who were submitted to the psalter.

In what cases and why is it needed?

Sorokoust about health is a strong spiritual request for help addressed to God in order to resolve existing problems, both physical and spiritual. With the help of this service a person can completely restore and improve his own life. Here are the most common cases when people order a magpie about health:

  • Helps to improve material well-being.
  • For the recovery
    of a seriously ill person.
  • To strengthen the fortitude
    of people suffering from any addictions.
  • To help you find a job.
  • For help in matters of the heart.
  • Before any important event or transaction
    , so that it goes well.
  • For success in your studies.
  • To restore peace of mind
    to those who suffer from worry and anxiety.
  • For older people to maintain health
    and good physical shape.
  • To cope with a difficult situation in life
    .
  • For good luck on your trip
    .

This is only a small part of the possible situations in which a person can turn to the Lord for help.

. As a rule, the request of a true believer, supported by the magpie, for health, never goes unnoticed by higher powers, and very soon the person begins to notice certain changes in his life, and all existing problems are resolved one way or another.

How to order correctly, how many days do they read?

Sorokoust can be ordered in any temple, monastery or church whose doors are open to visitors and where daily services are held. Upon entering the premises, you just need to find a church shop, where the maids or nuns will write down in a special book the names of those people for whom you want to order a service.

Or just say that you want to serve sorokoust and they will tell you what to write in the note.

The full name of the person given to him at baptism should be given.

. Many people have problems with this these days as foreign names have become popular. As a rule, during the baptismal ceremony, the priest gives a child with a foreign name a second Orthodox name. For example, at baptism Oksana becomes Ksenia, Angela becomes Angelina, Ilona becomes Elena, Martha becomes Martha, and so on.

Sorokoust about health is a service that is conducted by a clergyman every day for forty days.

The number forty is very symbolic for the Christian religion - the Bible more than once mentions important events that took place on earth during the stay of the Son of God on it precisely at this time:

  • 40 days
    in the desert after his baptism.
  • 40 days
    .

  • Mary Magdalena's pregnancy lasted 40 weeks
  • 40 days
    before the Ascension, Jesus appears to his disciples and so on.

For those who want to submit a prayer service for a longer period of time, you can submit a memorial for health for 1 month, 3 months, six months, 1 year; there is also an eternal memorial.

Can I serve it myself?

The most important thing to remember before going to church and ordering a service is that the service is held only for a baptized person

. Church shop workers always check before accepting an order for a prayer service whether the person has been baptized. As Orthodox priests explain, if a person is not baptized, then God simply does not see him and all his requests remain unheard.

You can order a magpie about health for yourself, a child, a pregnant woman and other people

. The main thing is to know their Orthodox names. There is an opinion that the most effective magpies for women are those that report as nuns in nunneries, and for men, accordingly, in men’s monasteries.

You can also order service from the enemy

. All the evil that he sends to you is neutralized. This means that you will get rid of the negative influence of the enemy and he will leave your life.

In some churches they specify how often the one for whom the magpie will be served confesses and receives communion. There are times when the priest refuses to conduct services for those who practically do not attend church. Also, you cannot give magpies about health for sectarians, adherents of other religions, atheists and those who show their hostility towards God.

What happens to the person after?

As a rule, changes in the life of a person for whom the magpie about health is read begin to occur after the first two or three services. And the more dire his situation is, the more noticeable they will be. Remember that to enhance the effect of the service, you should read your own prayers every day while it is being held.

Many Orthodox divine books say that those who order magpie for themselves and other people declare open war on evil spirits. And to evil spirits, any prayer is like a knife to the heart. Therefore, you should not be surprised if the unclean begin to take revenge.

Minor troubles, awkward situations and misunderstandings with others are what can also await you at the beginning of the prayer service. You may even get sick after this ritual. However, almost always, all these embarrassments completely disappear after the first seven days of the service.

When and for what time is it better to order?

You can order a magpie about health any day. The church does not have any specific restrictions associated with this worship service. If you feel that a person needs the help of higher powers, feel free to go to the temple and leave a request for a prayer service.

Sorokousts begin to scold the next day after submitting the demand. If a loved one is going on a long journey or to an important meeting, then it is better to order the service in advance five to seven days. During this time, a person’s physical and spiritual balance of energies will be restored, he will begin to feel more confident and calm, and will have a much greater chance of successfully implementing his own plans.

Prayer service in three or seven churches

If a deplorable situation develops in life and the state of affairs seems almost hopeless, you can resort to an even more effective way to convey your request to the Lord. In such cases, you can submit magpies about health in 3 or 7 churches at the same time. This is a very important ritual; before performing it, a person should fast for 9 days and live according to God’s commandments.

Sorokousts in several churches are most often ordered for seriously ill people or for those who want to get rid of a curse, damage or evil eye. According to the priests, demands for such services should be submitted one day before sunset.

Otherwise, the result will be the same as if you ordered one forty. In those 40 days while the service is being held, the person being reported can feel an unprecedented surge of energy, a feeling of joy and happiness.

What if a magpie was given for health, and the person dies?

If the magpie about health was ordered for an elderly or seriously ill person

, and after a few days he dies, you should remember a few rules:

  • As soon as a person has died, a priest should be invited to the house as soon as possible.

At the cemetery

A cemetery is a holy place where the bodies of the deceased rest until their future general resurrection. Even during pagan times, tombs were considered inviolable and sacred.

Remember that the grave of a deceased person should always be kept perfectly clean. The cross on the grave is considered a silent preacher of resurrection and immortality. It must be placed at the feet of the deceased so that his face is turned towards the Crucifixion.

Arriving at the cemetery, you need to light a candle and pray. There is no need to eat or drink in the cemetery. It is especially unacceptable to pour vodka on a grave mound. After all, this desecrates the memory of the deceased. Also, the custom of leaving a piece of bread and a glass of vodka on the grave should not be observed. This is a relic of paganism.

How to order correctly

After the death of a loved one, inconsolable relatives seek support in the church. But not everyone knows the basic rules or sacraments that need to be performed. Therefore, it is better to ask the clergyman about everything.

To order a magpie for the repose, you need to do the following:

  1. Come to the church shop and ask for a memorial leaflet. A black cross is drawn at the top of it, and lines below it.
  2. They need to write the name of the deceased. You can include other relatives and friends who have passed on to another world. Sometimes explanations are added, for example: “killed”, “baby”.
  3. Then the church employee passes the memorial to the priest.

It must be written in legible letters so that the priest can read the name correctly. It is better to come to church in the morning, before the service starts. But the deceased must be baptized. If he committed suicide, you can’t order magpie. You can only pray for the soul of such a person at home. A psalter or memorial service is also ordered for the deceased. If it is not possible to order a magpie for the repose, the text of the prayer can be read for deceased relatives as follows:

When a person orders a magpie for repose, he has a question about where it is best to do it. Sometimes a relative of the deceased comes to the church and orders, without specifying what the prayer will be, whether the Liturgy takes place every day or only on Sundays and major holidays.

It would be correct to order a magpie for repose in a monastery. And not only because the prayer of those who have left worldly pleasures is stronger, but also because in monasteries the Divine Liturgy is served every day, and at times twice, early in the morning and late in the evening.

How to submit a health note to Proskomedia

Immediately before the start of the Liturgy, parishioners can submit lists of people for whom they ask God for health. Orthodox believe that in this way the suffering of the sick can be alleviated, although home prayers for health are not excluded.

Jesus Himself said that wherever two or three ask for anything in His name, it will be given. (Matthew 18:19)

The church petition has power precisely for this reason, for the more people pray, the higher the prayer rises into Heaven.

The Apostle Paul emphasized that intense prayer and the petition of the righteous can accomplish much. (James 5:16)

The Lord grants miracles of healing through the prayer of faith, however, it is important that the patient himself performs several actions:

  • must be baptized according to Orthodox rites;
  • believe in the power of God to heal;
  • give up bad habits, cleansing yourself physically and mentally.

Notes for the proskomedia about health in Orthodoxy are written on forms previously purchased at the church store, or prepared in advance at home. When buying a note, you should pay attention that at the top it says “About health”, because there are also forms for commemorating the dead “About repose”.

In clear, legible handwriting or block letters, no more than ten names may be entered on one list. Names are written in the genitive case; it is allowed to write before the name - baby, sick, traveling, prisoner.

There are two types of health notes:

  • one-time;
  • long-term

There are different types of one-time lists:

  1. A one-time simple note is read by the altar boy.
  2. The ordered note is read by the priest, not once, but twice. The first time the ordered note is read at proskomedia, when the priest takes out pieces of special bread, which will subsequently be dipped in wine - a symbol of the Blood of Jesus. The second time the ordered list is read during the litany, at the end of the Liturgy.
  3. The special note is read four times:
      proskomedia;
  4. litany;
  5. prayer service twice.

Moreover, the reading of each name is accompanied by a petition. Health to those who are sick, financial debtors - solutions to problems, traveling - good luck.

The prayer service differs from the proskomedia in that it is read only for health. A prayer service is a service ordered for Jesus Christ, the Most Pure Mother of God and the saints. Prayer services are mainly performed after the Liturgy, but sometimes the priest himself chooses the time for it.

Repeated readings are carried out every six months, a year or on the fortieth day.

The multiple commemoration is read on the fortieth day, forty days in a row, during the service the priest reads the lists, while taking out a piece of sacred bread for each person.

A note for six months, a year means that for 6.12 months, every time a service is performed in the temple, the priest will read the names indicated in the submitted list.

Any church of the Russian Orthodox Church is open to submitting notes for proskomedia.

How many names will be indicated before the service, so many pieces of bread will lie on the altar. At the end of the proskomedia, they will all be dipped into wine.

It is prohibited to include in the note the names of people who have not accepted Orthodox baptism.

Notes are written in the evening when a proskomedia is held for the repose.

What prayers to read for the deceased at home

Remember that the greatest thing you can do in memory of the deceased is to order a liturgy. But still, we should not forget that you can also perform acts of mercy and pray for them at home.

Praying for the salvation of the soul of the deceased is a sacred duty that is assigned to living relatives. Remember that only by praying for deceased loved ones can you give them the only good they expect. This good will be the remembrance of the Lord.

The Church commands children to say words of prayer for their deceased parents until 40 days after their death. This must be done every day during this period. To do this, just read the following short prayer every morning:

And it will be more convenient to read the names from the memorial.

Sorokoust about Health: text of prayer

O Most Merciful God, Father, Son and Holy Soul, worshiped and glorified in the inseparable Trinity, look kindly upon Thy servant (name), who is overcome by illness; forgive him all his sins; give him healing from his illness; restore his health and bodily strength;

Grant him a long and prosperous life, Your peaceful and worldly blessings, so that together with us he may bring grateful prayers to You, the All-Bountiful God and my Creator.

Most Holy Theotokos, through Your omnipotent intercession, help me to beg Your Son, my God, for the healing of God’s servant (name). All saints and angels of the Lord, pray to God for His sick servant (name). Amen

Sorokoust is a special church prayer aimed at the repose of the soul of the deceased or acts in the form of an appeal to the Almighty about the health of a living person. Sorokoust is read during forty Divine Liturgies. The reading of the magpie is performed by a clergyman. Such a prayer allows you to cleanse your soul and forgive. Why was this specific time period chosen? It is important to know that in order to achieve a certain spiritual result, you need a feat that will last exactly 40 days. As you know, on the fortieth day a person’s soul receives a decision about its fate at God’s judgment. That is why prayers are carried out during this time period. Of course, continuous forty-day prayers aimed at the repose of the soul or caring for the health of a living person are of great benefit. If the liturgy in the church you contacted does not take place every day, the reading of the magpie may drag on for several months. The Sorokoust prayer for health will be more effective if the person who ordered it comes to the liturgy and also reads it. This can also be done while at home.

How often can you order a sorokoust about health?

You can order such a prayer as much as you like; it is possible to order a prayer not only for a period of forty days, but also longer, for example, for six months or a year. Some churches have lists, the names of which are always remembered. For those who do not know what the magpie about health is, we want to note that this is one of the most powerful prayers that is ordered when increased prayer support is needed. Most often it is ordered for a speedy recovery of a sick person. If desired, a person will be able to order a magpie in several churches at once, since commemoration during the Divine Liturgy is considered one of the most powerful benefits that we can provide to a loved one, a manifestation of care.

How to order a magpie for health in church?

One of the most effective methods is if you personally approach the priest with such a request for the reason that the priest usually prays in several places of worship.

The meaning of magpie for health implies not only prayers for health, but also success, material well-being, and allows you to achieve peace of mind. It is important to know that representatives who pray for the health of a person who has done a lot of evil read prayers not for the person to continue to be in the same state, but, on the contrary, to change his intentions and find inner harmony. In order to correctly order a magpie about health, you need to go to church, go to a shop that sells church supplies and place an order. To do this, you need to write on paper the name of the person for whom you should pray and pay for it. For 40 days, the specified person will be prayerfully remembered at every liturgy.

When ordering such a prayer, you must realize that such an appeal to God is not just words, because when a person begins to pray, it is as if he is declaring war on the unclean, trying to find peace of mind. He fights for his soul and for the souls of others. In monasteries they may not always accept applications for magpies, especially for monks, priests and nuns. In such cases, I recommend contacting the priest directly. During the fortieth day, do not forget about giving alms to the temple, this is also considered a prayer matter, but do not take on too much, but take care of those for whom you are obliged to pray - for parents, children, your soulmate.

Rest with the saints, Christ,

The souls of Your servants,

Where there is no pain, no sorrow, no lamentation,

But life is endless.

May God rest your departed Servants!

Funeral litany performed by the choir of the Yekaterinburg Orthodox Theological Seminary under the direction of regent Anton Lebedev and the Quartet (time: six minutes)

Prayer for the repose of the deceased

Rest, O Lord, to the soul of Thy departed servant (Thy departed servant, the soul of Thy departed servant) (name) (bow), and as much as man has sinned in this life (humans have sinned), Thou, as the Lover of Mankind, forgive him (u, them) and have mercy (bow), deliver eternal torment (bow), give to the heavenly Kingdom a partaker (participant, partakers) (bow), and do something useful to our souls (bow).

Prayer for the repose of all the departed

Rest in peace, O Lord, the souls of Your departed servants: Your most holy patriarchs, most Reverend metropolitans, archbishops and bishops, who served You in the priesthood, church and monastic ranks; the creators of this holy temple, the Orthodox forefathers, fathers, brothers and sisters, lying here and everywhere; leaders and warriors who laid down their lives for faith and fatherland; the faithful, killed in internecine warfare, drowned, burned, frozen to death, torn to pieces by beasts, suddenly died without repentance and did not have time to reconcile with their enemies; those for whom they commanded and asked us to pray, for whom there is no one to pray, and the faithful, deprived of Christian burial - in a brighter place, in a greener place, in a place of peace, from where sickness, sadness and sighing have escaped. And, as you are good and a lover of mankind, forgive all their voluntary and involuntary sins and deliver them eternal torment, as there is no man who will live and not sin, but You are the only one besides sin, Your truth is truth forever, and You are the only God mercy and generosity and love for mankind, and we send glory to You, Father and Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Prayer for the repose of the soul of the deceased

According to religious canons, the living need to pray for the repose of the dead in order to give them the opportunity to be in peace, enjoying the other world. The deceased will no longer be able to appease the Lord with daily deeds, nor will he be able to offer him a prayer, therefore it is necessary to pray for his soul to those remaining in this world.

Prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased are also useful to the living, for they calm their souls from worldly and vain things, filling them with the memory of the Heavenly world. The prayer service forces one to remember the need to abstain from sins, weakening the flow of righteous sorrow.

When we pray, we remember that the departed also grieve for us, helping us in our worldly life.

Of course, the souls of sinners who reject the canons of God during their lifetime, who live outside the church, even after being baptized, cannot count on salvation and mercy. In order to avoid becoming like them, it is necessary to constantly remember salvation in the other world.

When the servant of God lives his earthly life in accordance with the laws of our Father, daily turning to the angels and the Lord God, good things await him in earthly and heavenly life.

By offering a prayer for the repose of the soul of the deceased, the living take a direct part in asking for Paradise for them in Heaven. The Lord will certainly show mercy to the deceased who lived a good life and remained loved by living relatives, relatives, friends and acquaintances.

It is also believed that the Orthodox prayer for the repose of the soul of the deceased does not just help. Thanks to the fact that you ask for the dead, being alive, the dead will help you, being your messenger in the Next World, and this, you see, is definitely not out of place for us sinful souls.

Remember that no one is obliged to remember a deceased person. If you want to remember a deceased loved one, only then lift up the holy word, for only with a pure heart is it necessary to turn to God.

A prayer for repose coming from the heart can work miracles. Even scientists who are skeptical about everything that cannot be explained from a scientific point of view note the power of the holy word.

According to scientific statements, the holy texts of prayers contain a special combination of sounds, designed to bestow a certain internal emotional state on the one who reads and hears it, granting physical healing to the body, as well as simply peace.

If the prayer was pronounced correctly, you will feel like a certain weight is falling off your shoulders, giving you a feeling of special, grace-filled freedom, as well as peace. By praying, you diminish the pain of loss that torments your heart.

Comments – 2,

It is very difficult to let go of a dear and close person. Time does not heal, but dulls pain and teaches you to live with it. Prayers, I believe, are created to calm the soul of the person who is praying. I want everything to be fine with my loved one and in heaven. I would like to apologize for everything that happened, and perhaps even for what I didn’t say or do. I use these prayers as soon as I remember the departed and begin to miss.

I ask you to honor the repose of your Grandmother and Grandfather - Alexandra and Fedor. Thank you

Prayers for the deceased Our Lady

There are various ways to pray for the dead:

  • order a memorial service or short litiya,
  • submit a note to the proskomedia for commemoration at the liturgy,
  • You can pray in church or at home.

The text of the prayer of the Mother of God for the deceased is as follows:

There is a popular saying that we feel like children as long as our parents are alive. We all wish they could live forever, but that doesn't happen. And there comes a certain moment in life when we have to part with them. After loss, we can help them and ourselves. Reading prayers will stabilize our state of mind, and the parent’s soul will find peace. There are several such prayers, but in most cases they use the prayer to the Mother of God for deceased parents.

Here is the text of a prayer that you can use in this situation.

Death is the most tragic event that happens in a person's life. No matter how painful and sad it may be, you shouldn’t get depressed. Remember that nothing lasts forever on Earth and scientists have not yet discovered the secret of immortality. Therefore, try to pull yourself together and continue living. The most important thing for you now is to live your life in such a way that your deceased loved ones rejoice at your achievements. Don’t grieve about the loss and don’t cry, it’s better to go to church, light a candle and pray. And it will also not be superfluous to remember the deceased in those warm and joyful moments of life together.

Prayer for the deceased Mother of God

What is the ritual of proskomedia?

Every Orthodox person cares about his neighbor, for the Lord commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves. (Matt.22)

Sometimes situations arise during which people are unable to help their neighbors on their own. Then they turn to God.

Proskomedia is not just a prayer for health, it is a whole ritual that allows you to present the soul of your neighbor before the throne of grace during the service. The sacred rite symbolizes the washing of a person with the Blood of Jesus.

This part of the Liturgy represents a prototype of a unified Church, when the Lamb of God, the Mother of God, saints and people for whom relatives and neighbors asked to pray are gathered together on the paten.

The symbol of this rite is eternal life, for just as a piece of prosphora dies in wine, so it resurrects in the Blood of Jesus.

Thanks to the sacred offering, repentant sinners have the opportunity to be reconciled with God, and the sick can receive healing.

The Sacrament of Communion originates from the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and His disciples. Jesus took the bread, broke it as a type of His body, torn to pieces on the cross for the sins of the people, and distributed it to the disciples. The Savior picked up a cup of grape wine and passed it around, saying that whoever drinks it with the memory of a terrible death will be cleansed by the Blood of Jesus.

Since then, Christians have taken communion in the form of red wine and specially baked bread.

Attention! According to some Orthodox Christians, these particles cleanse the sins of those whose names are indicated in the notes. This is self-deception; you can get rid of sin only through personal repentance, changing your life, doing good deeds. The person whose name is given in the note must himself desire his own cleansing, admitting his sins and repenting.

What then is the power of proskomedia? Each piece of prosphora symbolizes the cleansing sacrifice of Christ, the grace brought, the possibility of remission of sins and subsequent sanctification.

About other church commemorations:

  • Sorokoust about health
  • What is a prayer service and how to order it correctly
  • Water Blessing Prayer Service

The large prosphora symbolizes the Body of the Lord, and its parts symbolize people. Lowering into the chalice reminds people of being filled with Divine blood, which gives spiritual fulfillment to those about whom it is written in petitions.

The Most Pure Blood of Jesus Christ washes the living, helping them to leave their sins and enter into eternal life.

Basic rules for prayer requests for the dead

Funeral prayers for a deceased relative are considered the duty of any Orthodox believer. According to the canons of the Orthodox Church, it is necessary to pray especially diligently during the first forty days after death. The Christian Church commands a widow to offer a prayer for her deceased husband, children, parents, or just a loved one every day.

The Orthodox Church also commands that names be read according to a special memorial. This is a small book in which the names of deceased and living relatives are preserved. There is even a pious custom according to which family memorials are offered. By reading the names of all recorded relatives, Orthodox believers can remember many generations of relatives who died a long time ago.

Remember that prayers read at home before 40 days for the deceased have a much better effect than after 40 days. In addition, it is worth considering that you can read all the prayers at home. Even those that cannot be mentioned at church services. For example, in church it is forbidden to read a prayer for the unbaptized deceased or for suicides. The main thing is to accurately reproduce the entire text of the prayer book, maintain all intentions and concentration. And under no circumstances should you be distracted by anything.

How and when to order magpies for health correctly

Healthy.
To order a magpie about health, you need to go to the candle shop in the church and ask what requirements can be ordered in a particular church. The form of submission is quite simple - you need to take a piece of paper, write “About health” on top and below list the names of those for whom the prayer should be performed. As a rule, it is customary to indicate no more than 10 names in one note. It is customary to write names in the genitive case. For example, the text of the note might look like this:

About health

  • Maria;
  • Alexandra;
  • Barbarians;
  • Vladimir and relatives.

Also, for each name, it is proposed to make a monetary donation for the maintenance of the temple. The donation can be either a fixed amount or at the discretion of the parishioners - depending on the rules established in a particular temple.

For a deeper understanding of the essence of the magpie, it is worth knowing about whom you can submit notes. Following strict church canons, this prayer work is performed only for members of the Church of Christ. And they are people who lead Christian and church life, participate in divine services and, most importantly, in the Sacraments. Thus, according to church canons, a person who misses three liturgies in a row without a serious reason is considered to have dropped out of church communion and church life.

Prosphora used in Sorokoust

Since, after removing the particles from the prosphora, they are then transformed into the Body of Christ, the sins of a given person are symbolically atoned for by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. But if the person whose name is submitted for commemoration does not want to be saved and does not strive for this, the sacrifice of Christ turns out to be meaningless. The Lord God cannot save a person without his personal desire and willful effort to correct his life.

Attention. In view of the above, church canons require the names of only church-going Christians to be submitted for the 40-day commemoration. But modern life makes its own adjustments, and if you strictly follow all the canons, then only a few will remain in the church. Of course, one should strive for the canons as an ideal, but also make allowances for the weaknesses of modern people. Therefore, now almost everyone is allowed to be commemorated on Sorokoust, the main rule is that a person must be baptized in the Orthodox Church.

  • What is "Sorokoust"

    Any sacrament, including the commemoration of a person at 40 Liturgies upon request, is a requirement performed by a clergyman. It differs from a single commemoration at Proskomedia only in the number of services and nothing more. They order “Sorokoust” so that, despite the circumstances, the commemoration is still carried out:

    • for those who cannot attend the service;
    • for the sick and weak, or the temple is far away;
    • for children who do not know that they are committing evil deeds;
    • for relatives and friends who have moved away from God;
    • so that the Lord would save a person from harm.

    At the end of the Liturgy, the priest, dropping personalized pieces of prosphora into the Chalice with the Blood of the Lord, reads special prayers. He asks to cleanse the mentioned people from their sins, both through the prayers of the Church itself and the Saints standing at the Throne of God. And although the person himself is not at the service, he participates in the Liturgy, although not fully.
